Higuys,

I finally got me a next-gen. I have been with playstation ever since the ps1 hadhit the market in 95. Prior to that I had a nintendo (8bits), genesis, Gameboy (vintage 1989) and Super-nes. This time around I went with the x360 because of the games and the xbox live experience everybody is having. Now I'm doubting my choice. Don't get me wrongthe x360 is a really cool console andwith one of the new models with the falcon chip in it, I'm pretty sure thatmy consolewon't break. The wireless controller is cool with the menu button and arcade is off the hook. But now that the ps3 has the $399 model coming out. I'm thinking about returning the x360. Reason is with a playstation console value is high and lifespan of the console is going to be 5 to 9 years easy. Sony is great supporting his consoles. Microsoft not that great. We saw what happenedwith the first xbox.We might only have2 years beforemicrosoft decides to reveal another console and drop the x360. Open debate.

2010 would be a five year lifespan so I expect a new Xbox around 2011 or so.

They really should wait until the format war is more or less decided before they start designing their next console. It would be pointless releasing a HD DVD platform if it's dead the year after. The 360 isn't exactly future proof, but as Crysis has shown us, what truly is these days? So I reckon they might keep the 360 going a little longer than people anticipate.

that will depend entirely on advancements in pc technology. When pc games start putting console games to shame then we'll talk (hint: that hasn't happened yet. Crysis is impressive, but is no trump card)

Not too soon I don't think so. If the PS3 starts to take over I think that it may get released sooner than most expect. However, if the Wii takes over I don't think that it will make much of a difference. The reason for this is with the graphics. The reason the PS3 would take over is if the graphics on it surpass that of the 360. Then Microsoft would release a new console with graphics that are better than that of the PS3 in order to not lose people over to the PS3. People don't buy the Wii for graphics (at least I hope not), so the Wii sales do not matter too much. This would happen in a couple of years, if it does at all.

The Xbox was bleeding money, they had to cut it. That doesn't mean they won't cut the 360 though, although they are making money on the hardware now.

with all the hardware problems the 360 has and MS's inability to fix it I think they will try and start over again sooner then expected

Thats my guess too. But it isnt sure if that move would be intelligent, cause till then the PS3 might take up quite a fight (not hardware wise, but market share wise). Throwing a new console into a running generation is a great risk. It couldbe kind of a finishing move too though.

If you believe Sony, (i actually wouldnt :) ) the PS3 will be aimed for a decade or more, so its quite possible that the new XBOX hits in between. I am no market analyst, so i am not sure if that would be a smart move from MS.

My feeling says 2010-2011 and i am already waiting for it :)

2010 earliest we will see a new one, 2012 is the latest we will see one. the ps3 is not going to have a 9 year life span at this rate. if anything they will be the first to announce there ps4 around 2010. i am really wondering about the wii 2. i was just looking at the progession of nintendo controlers and wondering if we will end up with a dual pointer countrolling device or something.

I wouldn't mind a new one in 2009. There is only so much that can be done with curent gen hardware and by next year games will be reaching the limits. From then the steps forward will probably be too small for me to care and I'm talking about overall game design, not just graphics.

keep your 360 and buy a PS3 there's no reason to sacrifice one for the other especially when you never get your money's worth. I'd say that even if MS only supports the 360 for another year or two (doubt it), it will still be worth owning. Aconsole is only as good as the games on it.

No, I doubt that MS will pull the plug on the 360 within the next 2 years. It's possible in 2010 as that is a solid 5 years for the 360. And I can see MS actually still supporting the 360 after their next console comes out.

The 360 will have a lifespan that is close to the PS3's...sony isn't dominating this gen like they usually do so they'll be quick to make a new console as well.

No, if they really want the 360 to be the new PS2 they will ride this out to the end. They shouldn't rush too fast into the next console because they'll benefit from the games at the end of the lifespan and continue to make money on hardware that isn't expensive to produce anymore.

the main reason they dropped the xbox so fast was because whover made its graphics card (i think nvidia) charged them a lot for it even when better ones came out for cheaper and they stopped manufacturing them. this isn't likely for the 360 because they secured the rights to all the hardware.

The ancient tradition of consoles having a fixed lifespan is over by now. All of the next-gen systems will have longer lifecycles than their predecessors. Look at the PS2 - it is seven years old and it is STILL going strong.

Micrsoft should be busy fixing the hardware of the Xbox 360 and make it more reliable via 65nm and 45nm chipsets, instead of making a whole new Xbox. Fix what you have now instead of worrying about the next project.

when the graphics take over..try giving developers time..
uncharted is the tip of the iceberg..and only used about
half of the ps3's power..notice its exclusive??
