I just played the Chronicles of Riddick demo on my PS3, and after playing the 360 version first, I was disappointed as usual. The 360 version ran at a smooth 30 fps, and the PS3 version had constant slowdown, just like FEAR 2 and RE5. Looks like I'll be buying Riddick for my PC. I'm happy I bought a PS3 (which I got for the 1st party titles) and I have no regrets, but do you think developers will ever get multiplats equal?

I would have to say not until each console is built equally with the same parts (not likely). One will always probably be more powerful so the owners can boast and brag, and the company can claim dominance. Plus, they design technology independently, so chances of them all sharing designs and putting out the same console is 0.

But just remember that, like is always said about multi-plats, that the PS3 is harder to develop for. In order for a game company to cut production costs they'll develop for the 360, and port to the PS3 a playable (while possibly not fully functional) version. I'm sure Sony won't make the same design choices with their next console, and both the Xbox and Playstation will play games with a similar, and constant frame rate, and similar visuals.

No because xbox360 is more powerful than ps3. ps2 was harder to develop for than dreamcast, but multiplatforms games still looked better on ps2.

False that's like saying a intel core 2 duo 2.4 ghz with a 8600 gt is better than a 2.0 ghz core 2 duo with a 8800 GT.

ps3 might have the most powerful cpu aslong as cpu decent its all good but the most important thing is gpu and memory. claiming ps3 is more powerful truly is false.

It's amazing how cheap the 360 hardware is and somehow it manages to match the PS3's. Good job MS.

There's really no point in arguing, PC has the best multiplatform games.

Its like saying a 2.4 ghz C2D with a Geforce 7800GTX is better than a 2.4 ghz C2D with a Radeon X1800xtx.

It should be pretty much equal, and it really depends on who develops the software.

lol i had a x1800xt and a 7800 gtx 256 mb , the x1800xt stomped it's ass in all games. the 7800 gtx 512 mb was slightly more powerful than x1800xt 512 mb though.

On current hardware even if they get the games looking as 'equal' as they can, there will always be little things that aren't equal or will never look the same: Shading/Shadows, anti-aliasing, HDR/bloom etc are all handled differently by different hardware....Alot of the time the techniques they use to achieve effects on one system just can't be done through the same means on another system and will result in small visual differences (that hardly anyone notices really).

Because the PS3 is has sucha different SDK than 360, It will take a while for devs to figure out the best stratagy. It sounds like the best option for multiplat is to lead on PS3 and port to 360, but with 360 selling more, they dont want the 360 version to suffer As PS3 becomes more commonplace, I bet most multiplat titles will lead on PS3

In theory this should be true but doesn't always happen. GTA4 was sucky on PC.

I don't think they will ever really be equal, developers will likely always have to accommodate the PS3's differences. 360 being the lead platform is not a excuse for the PS3 version being behind, if it was well designed it shouldn't matter which way a game is ported.

Easy to port away, hard to port to, not the best situation for PS3.

Gaming PCs, even mid range ones, have a abundance of resources compared to consoles. If a console to PC port performs badly it is a significant failure on the developers part; not the platform.

even with ps3 being lead platform on games such as burnout xbox360 didnt recieve any downgrades like ps3 games have recieved from 360 being lead platform. i read the only differene between burnout on 360 and ps3 is, the ps3 version has anisotropic filtering turned on, on or on higher level, they could of easily turned this on in 360 version and probley might of actually forgot to turn it on before shipping the game lol. they could easily patch it with higher level of af.

Thing is you never see games that run that badly on consoles...simply because it's always the same hardware. On consoles they squeeze every bit of resources out of them and get them smooth and playable every time.... on PC they perform a juggling act of trying to support everyone's different hardware and almost always you see some poor saps left high and dry till a patch because their machine (that should be able to run it) either gets performance issues, or just has it plain not work ...and this isn't just from GTA4 it's been going on title after title for years (anyone remember Ultima 9??). The platform IS partly to blame.

Agreed, but he's not talking about whose fault it is, just where the game is best.

So, the fact 360 has better multiplats than PS3 isnt good for 360 owners because the PC ones are the best? Humm...great logic :|

Partly yes, there is a level of inconvenience accepted on PC in exchange for the increased user freedoms and flexibility. But this has been the case for well over a decade, most developers have no problem accommodating the scalability requirement of PC gaming. If a game runs fine on consoles it should run fine on a PC that was high end 2-3 years ago, if not that is a failure on the developers part.

It matched it in performance, but fell behind on reliability and features. Back on topic. They will never be equal unless both are made from the ground up, hopefully developers eventually allow the gamers to change its graphical settings like PC. It would be kinda like overclocking but with a console.
