A. Do you think they'll charge for online?

&

B. Do you think they'll give u a free game every month?

I honestly don't know if they will charge for online, but I don't doubt it espically if they wanna compete with the brothers, and some reason I don't think they'll give a free game every month. What do you guys/gals think?

No, but they'll continue their amiibo tax.

@Blabadon: gotcha, paying for online does suck but that's something I think will never change espically on the console side. But I wouldn't mind it that bad if they made the structure easy and fast to use, espically with friends online, they need to realize it's 2016 lol

@skelly34: you'll have to buy a monthly wifi amiibo to play online. Bad part is they will be in limited supply.

Like I said in a similar thread made on this topic: have the online not suck, and I'll gladly pay $60 for it a year.

I wouldn't want to pay for online at all. Keep it free. If they charge they better be giving out some quality Nintendo games...there is nothing they could do to convince me paying for the online by itself is worthwhile.

PS+ was kind of ok because they gave you some excellent value for the games, but lately that has been more questionable as there have been only a few really great games this year. Same goes for GwG. PS+ used to give out retail games like 1-2 years old, sometimes better than that. But lately it's been more about indie games. GwG has always been bad (it only started as a weak imitation of what PS+ was doing), but PS+ is stooping down to their level now.

Once games are eliminated from the equation paying for online is just.. silly. Most of online gaming has nothing to do with PSN or XBL anyway, as so many games tend to run either via peer-to-peer nonsense, or through dedicated servers that EA controls (i.e. if you are playing Battlefield or Battlefront it's not like PSN or XBL are providing the bandwidth, all they basically provide is a login and then you are going to the EA servers). If you are subscribing to an MMO you are paying twice, once for PSN/XBL and again for the game's servers. It makes no sense at all.

Console online services shouldn't cost anything. The only reason they charge for them is because people are gullible enough to pay.

Valve is able to run a much larger network with more features and better performance with everything for no monthly fee while still raking in profits.

Of course that's nothing compared to the great MMORPG scam: Millions of WoW users actually paying 15$ a month plus 40$ per expansion for that. If you've played WoW since launch it costs thousands of dollars.

I hope so. Couldn't give a crap about the online but if Nintendo starts giving away games like 'DKC: Tropical Freeze' and 'Pikmin 3' to download every month (even if they expire if the subscription lapses like PS Plus and Xbox One GWG) I'd subscribe in a heartbeat.

However, like I said in another thread, if it's just, "Please pay us in hope that we'll improve our online" then no. Screw that. I pay for both PS Plus AND Xbox Gold for the games, not so much the online. Hell, I owned an original Xbox since 2001 and 360 since 2008 and never subscribed to Xbox Gold until they started offering games every month.

I wouldn't be likely to pay for just online either because I don't play Nintendo games online enough to be worth it. Would just so a month or two at a time for certain games that come out if I did want to play them online. (I've never been attached to any online multiplayer game before to play more than a month and doubt I ever will) If they also offered games and other features like cloud storage and such than I'd likely sub for the whole year.

  • A: They'll charge for Online but probably in the same level as PSN was, last generation. You PAY for Nintendo Network "Plus" (NN+) with all the extra perks and online MP for cheap, I'm guessing $40 a year. But Regular NN would be FREE and still allow players to play online multiplayer, but without the extra perks.

I can guarantee that. At this point, it's inevitable. Nobody thought Sony would dare charge for online, but look at PSN right now.

Nintendo Network is currently pathetic. It gets the "job done" but it's still nowhere near efficient as XBL or in some degree, PSN.

I really hate these Pay to Play online interactions like PS+ and Xbox Live.

I pay these companies to play online but I can't help but feel the experience would be the same if they were free.

I'm pretty certain they'll have a subscription model this go round. However, there's no way Nintendo will hand out free titles. on a monthly basis.

they will have a very hard time convincing people to pay.

their online systems will simply not be up to speed that would get people to pay for the service. so they would have to focus on gaming related extras.

to be honest, as alluded to above, i think amiibos will be nintendos subscription. they will plan it so that each amiibo will unlock a certain amount of content over a number of games basically.

They should but I doubt they will. I think they're OK with making money in other ways although they do need to start pumping money into it. They're starting to get way behind the times in regards to online services.

Free online please. I'm a sheep not a cow. AKA I'm not a hypocrite.

I'll be disappointed with Nintendo if they charge for online play.

They are not averse to charging for stuff like this. They are often credited for things they are simply behind the times on. DLC. They didn't offer it, not out of the kindness of their hearts, but because they hadn't got the infrastructure. Lo and behold, paid DLC aplenty this gen.

If they are serious about online you will get a paid subscription like the rest. They are a business.

If they will have big budget third party games like CoDs, SWBFs, sports games, etc. I think they will have some sort of subscription but more power to them if they don't. And if they do what the Xbox One is doing, which is offer Xbox 360 GwG games that is all backward compatible and playable on Xbox One which means you don't even need an Xbox 360 to gain these games then I'm all for it. I don't have a Wii U so if the NX offered Wii U backward compatible games playable on the NX as an incentive for the subscription, I'll be interested.

I'll be hella disappointed if so. Just like how I'm STILL disappointed in them for giving in to the mobile bitching with signing on with DeNA.

This is my answer too. I don't have any problem paying for a quality service and I don't understand why some people have such a big problem with it especially when it costs so little. The monthly fee for a quality online service like Xbox Live comes out to less than what many people spend on coffee each day. The amount is so little that it could just vanish from my wallet every month and I would not even notice it was gone. And I recognize that developing, maintaining, and continuing to improve a quality online service would cost Nintendo money, so I would gladly pay for a Nintendo online subscription if it means that the NX would have a good online service. The online service they currently offer however is not worth anything, so it's only if Nintendo starts charging for online yet still does not improve their online service that I would be pissed.

What games would they actually release for free? Game Boy games? I highly doubt they would give subscribers anything decent.

They will. They already kinda mentioned this with their slides. I don't think free games will be part of the deal. But I do expect it to be worth it.

Yeah sure, Nintendo took their time with DLC.

But it seemed like they really studied and understood what people expect from DLC i.e. a good price/content ratio.

Where other companies now charge 10 dollars for DLC or 30 dollars for season passes that offer nothing. Nintendo had one of the best examples of DLC done right this gen: Mario Kart 8.
