Killzone 2 clearly has the most potential for Best FPS of the year, although there are sure to be plenty of competitors. This is the game that has absolutely everyone talking, and after spending time with the beta and single-player campaign, we have told you that Guerilla's blockbuster will live up to the admittedly monumental hype. We're hardly the only publication that says so.

God of War III and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will likely have to do battle with Gears of War 3 next year, but either of those PS3 exclusives have a legitimate shot at a Best Action/Adventure award. At this point, it's hard to doubt the magnificence of GoWIII, and based on the evidence - the original Uncharted - few are expecting anything less than a fantastic experience from the sequel.

White Knight Chronicles technically releases this year (December 25) in Japan, but of course, it won't be available until 2009 for North America. It's already shaping up to be a huge RPG; easily the most anticipated of the generation except for Final Fantasy XIII at this point. And remember, the rumor is that if it does well, Level 5 will sign on to develop games exclusively for Sony. Will 2009 be the first year where the PS3 finally has an exclusive RPG of the Year contender?

Heavy Rain should be a cinematic adventure experience that could be entirely unparalleled. You know all those separate awards like Best Graphics, Best Original Score, Studio of the Year, etc.? Well, Quantic Dream could make a similar statement in 2009 as Media Molecule did with LittleBigPlanet this year, and provided they come through on their claims, Heavy Rain could easily be one of the best of the generation.

Gran Turismo 5 will likely release towards the end of the year - Yamauchi has already laughed off the possibility of a 2010 launch - and if that's the case, you may as well give it any and all Best Racing Game awards right now. It could easily be in the running for Best Graphics, too, although it's more likely that one of the aforementioned titles takes that honor home. We already saw the potential in Prologue...just imagine what the final product will be like.

Really, the diversity amongst the PS3 exclusives next year is actually quite impressive. I find it difficult to find enough 360 exclusives to even begin to compare with the preceding list, and in the end, there could be a whole lot more reasons for gamers to purchase a PS3 next year...

Looks like PS3 has a GoY contender for alot of categories next year. :D

God of War 3 will be freaking awesome however I think that Microsoft will have alot up its sleeve in 09 but we will have to wait and see because they usually announce everything in the year it comes out.

Yeah man i totally see a PS3 exclusive winning GOTY. If Uncharted 2 has online it may very well win dude. as of now, I don't see any other FPS game that will seriously compete with Killzone 2. And uh, is MAG coming out this year?! that could easily win best multiplayer if its successful.

Killzone 2

Great looking but standard playing linear shooter, looking more of the same so far

Xbox 360 games to rival it - Warhound feels far more open and the jungles/forests are far more appealing in my eyes, physics and stunning visuals are all there too

God of War III

Amazing game, but the gameplay seems more of the same, just more frantic and with some small changes (for the best of course), i guess quick time event are there too, just feels very limited in gameplay as GOW1-2 were

Xbox 360 games to rival it - KUF2: Dominion, real time strategy and action game, the game is epic, VAST in scale and scope, huge armies collide, you control them and also get to play in the action, killing vast monsters etc, seems far more epic than GOW right now, considering the towering dinosaur like creatures that can kill 10 human in one foot step and the castle sieges with dragon attacks

Uncharted 2

I can't think of anything like it on 360, the visuals are stunning too, but the levels are last gen small

Xbox 360 games to rival it - Two Worlds Temptation, Well, it is not fair comparing 100 hours WRPG's with huge free roaming worlds, to Uncharted, but Two Worlds Temptation with the almost Crysis like visuals and vast open world and hundreds of gameplay hours is simply infinitly more appealing and next gen to me, you even get to sail your own boat in real time waves and a stunning looking sea, kill dragons, build your own online village (in online mode) etc

White Knight Chronicles

I have seen WKC visuals and combat, they are passable but far from next gen looking imo, this game will go overlooked because simply does not look next gen at all

Xbox 360 games to rival it - Star Ocean 4, looks far more next gen and detailed in level design and graphics, and the real time combat seem far more exiting so far

Heavy Rain

Great looking indoors, mixed feeling for the outdoor visuals, the game looks super, but very confined, and the quick time events do not help in feeling some freedom

Xbox 360 games to rival it - Alan Wake, a trully vast open world, totally free roaming, now that is next gen adventuring in my book, real time weather and day/night changes too

Gran Turismo 5

Xbox 360 games to rival it - Forza 3, but not really in visuals GT5 will be far better i guess

Now, what does PS3 have to rival the below ? (I will not include the above games)

Western RPG's

Mass Effect 2 - The sequel to Mass Effect 1, continuing the story
Divinity 2: Ego Dragonis - HUge WRPG, play a dragon, stunning graphics
Venetica
Dungeon Hero
Precursors
Risen - From Gothic developers, another vast world to explore
Age of Conan (MMO)
The secret world (MMO)
Fallout 3 exclusive DL content - huge new antarctica etc levels and missions
2ond confirmed Lionhead game

Japanese RPG's

Cry On - From Mistwalker (Lost Odyssey)

Adventures

Theseis - Ancient Greece adventure

Strategy

Majesty 2
Dawn of Fantasy
Halo Wars

Action

Ninja Blade
Ninty Nine Nights 2
Rareware confirmed games in devlopment

Survival Horror

Dead Island - Free roaming island with zombies, like a free roaming RE, from Warhound developers

There are tons of information on the above xbox 360 titles in the below links, for those interested

In short, PS3 has a brilliant 2009, xbox360 has a way more brillinat one imo with the most and biggest RPG titles and huge, really next gen, free roaming worlds and gameplay

We shall see, I doubt we'll see God of War 3 in 2009, or GT. But who knows. Let's wait 'till the game is out.

1- your source is PSxtreme? Thats like lemmings posting the official xbox magazines prediction for GOTY contenders...maybe worse 2- With the way JRPGs have been performing and barely doing anything new for the genre...im not ready to hype White Knight Chronicles anything more than a very good JRPG 3- GT has never conteded for GOTY.....or won a GOTY at anything big. 4- PS3 exclusives will still have to compete with BIG multiplats ie Resident Evil 5. 5- We don't even know half the games that will be released in 09...or atleast we can't confirm them For instance Where is the GOd of War 3 date..and link saying its 09 What is stopping Halo 3: Recon from being delayed What is stopping Heavy Rain from being delayed. You don't crown next years goty in december of the current year....
