Will PS4 outsell the PS2?

Nah, but the wii u will.

I'd say it does stand a chance if they hammer it from start to finish with quality exclusives. That's not looking so promising as of yet though.

XBox One is the better gaming console and the games already shown prove it. So unless people want the EyeToy (LOL) then the XBox will outsell it.

Not seeing it. When the PS2 was out, it basically had no serious competition. That and it was $99 for a long time, and that was when it got the bulk of its sales.

So for the PS4 to sell 150m units, the XBone and Wii U would basically have to fail completely and the system would have to get really cheap really quickly. Don't see either one happening (Wii U could fail completely, though).

I don't think any console will ever outsell the PS2 from here on out.

It's all about handhelds/portable now.

Not going to happen. The competition from Xbox One will be fierce and it will also have to compete with PC and mobile. I think outselling PS3 would be a huge success for Sony.

The XBox was better than the PS2 in almost every single way except for JRPGs but XBox still had some really good ones.

On topic: it probably will not surpass the PS2 in sales and probably success/greatness. It has a chance though. I'll vote yes just for optimism.

I hate to burst your bubble TC.. but Ps2 was and Is popular because it was soo easy to pirate games on. The Wii was extremely easy to pirate games on also. In a lot of countries today they still sell and buy Ps2 to pirate on them. I'm sure the PS4 will be a bit more complicated to do so and probably won't be as popular to pirate it.

If you want to be honest only a 5th of the Jrpg library of the PS2 was even praised, half the Jrpgs were garbage. It was another generation of SquareEnix.

PS2 had a lot of things going for it. Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, GTA timed-exclusivity, Kingdom Hearts, and nearly every single mainstream multiplat.

It also had a huge amount of Japanese support.

It was also a cheap DVD player at release.

PS4 doesn't have any of these things, or anything similar to them. The "hardcore gaming" crowd is not going to lift PS4 to 160 million lifetime sales.

No. The PS2 was a just a perfect storm of a lot of different events. No core gaming console will ever sell that much in today's world.

@Joedgabe: So easy to pirate on yet it sold over 1.5 billion games. While the PS2 was a trendy, overhyped piece of shit, it still led to a great library that people actually bought. Unfortunatly these games would have been so much better on Xbox.

Actually, I could see it happening. Not to take anything away from MS, I think they'll hit 100M by the end of this generation. I think gaming popularity is going to explode and these consoles will last quite a long time considering the cloud will extend the lifespan by a few years.
