Hahahahaha.... No. M$ has already done plenty to suck even more money out of XBL users (like seperating usage rights of DLC into you different login names; forcing you to buy it again). They would never cut out the largest perpetual cash cow they have.
Live has to be the biggest ripoff there is. It should be free. Customers should be demanding this stuff.

if everyone stopped paying, im sure they would lower the price, but that will never happen, people have a sick addiction to xbox live, i use to, i must of spent $600 on dlc throughout my 2 years on live between movies and rockband tracks, and map packs

And you honestly think that you matter? MS is generating so much revenue off XBL it's not even funny... and that won't change. They might add things to the service to try and justify the price (or even lower the price like they have) but it will never be free.
when I think of the term it should be free I think of: clean water, shelter, clothing, clean food. Necessities for human beings to live. Yet in our free market society people can charge money for these things. Why wouldn't MS be able to charge for live? None of us have to buy it. And none of us really need it.
Why would M$ willingly give up charging for XBL gold when they already have millions of subscribers faithfully shelling out the dough annually? As much as a rip-off it is, the price tag is just below the point where people would start complaining, but high enough to be a minor annoyance.
Its superior to the PS3's and Wii's service in every way possible.. And it costs as little as $3 a month.. Why would they make it free? As a PS3 player I would kill if the PSN actually got off their ass and streamlined their features, create a better PS store etc etc for a minimal fee like that.. I find the fact that people complaining about $3 as highly hypocritical when they had no qualms for buying a console anywhere from $200 to $500.. And it seems to be the exact same people who buys games brand new instead of looking for deals and what not.. Most confusing if I do say so my self.
Not unless people stop paying for it. It's half the consumer's fault. MS is the king of milkage, the price of accessories is a joke too. Kinda makes me feel bad for owning one.

I'm sure if a boycott was a reasonable proposition (ie, if there were a good chance that a significant number of people would join in), many XBL users would be up for it. However, it's doubtful that MS would be scared if a couple thousand users stopped paying, which would probably be the case in reality.
Stop complaining and get a job everyone. It's like $80 a year or whatever it is in other currencies. It's hardly something worth ditching a console over.
They won't make live free until the number of subscribers starts to decrease or they are getting straight up spanked by the PS3 in sales (like 2:1 every month) and some study shows that like 80% of PS3 owners are gaming online.
I don't mind paying MS for my Live. It's a greatr service and you get mor than you pay for. TV. Movies. Demos. Video games to download. Competitons. Contests. Universal friends list. Party chat. Not to mention the online gaming. Oh, and 1 vs 100 pretty much pays you to play.
no it has a huge amount of active live users, if the gold live accounts dropped below a million because no one would renew then they would make it free, but 14 million or more and counting absolutely not.
If live was $20 or at the most $25, would be definitely a price I'm more than willing to pay for. As for now, I barely play online enough to warrent $40 and make it seem worth it.
i don't think they will stop charging for it. i've heard rumors about microsoft making a new thing with live called VIP. it suppose to have more features and uses then gold. it is just a rumor not saying microsoft will do this. who knows if that is true then maybe live gold will be free but VIP will cost the same.
