No.
First of all, MS already lost the war to Nintendo, which also features a DVD drive. so obviously the drive isn't keeping people from buying it.
Second of all, that DVD drive hasn't kept the biggest titles of the generation from debuting on the Xbox 360.
Third of all, if MS loses 2nd place in the war, it'll be because of the Xbox brand name. Because they have the best online solution and best library of games by far this generation. But brand names and brand loyalty mean something.
am i the only one worried about the fact that the 360 only has a dvd-rom drive. what is MS going to do about this. it was only this week alone the folks at id make mention of the restrains a dvd-rom has on the 360. Games as large as MGS4 cannot even begin to hold on a dvd dual layer or not. as we move into the future arent games going to become lager and lager wat is MS going to do??k0wingContinue what they've been doing. Having 99% of their games fit on a single DVD, and multidisc the few that need more. News of a game well more than a year away that MAY look slightly worse on the 360(which happened with almost every PS2 game even though it won the generation)is being blown out of proportion.
Why is MGS4 30gb's?EuroMafiaidunno. good question. but that size wouldn't have prevented it being on the 360.
Act 1 & 2 = Disc 1
Act 3 & 4 - Disc 2
Act 5 & MGO = Disc 3
In my opinion the 360 already won the war. RickLemieuxyou need to define what war you're talking about, because Nintendo already crushed MS and Sony.
Crushed.

And even then it was just the GTA 4 and Xbox 360 forums.
I only moved onto SW in like November last year....
Isn't microsoft doing the same thing as sega?
Dreamcast used a GD-ROM format that wasn't quite a CD and wasn't quite a DVD.
Is that what XBOX360 uses? Not quite DVD definitely not bluray? Or do I have it wrong?
ceruxx
The 360 uses DVD-9, which has the most storage capacity for a DVD.
Not this disk drive capacity crap again...
Storage space is only 'one' aspect of what affects a game; the GPU, CPU and Ram has a much bigger impact on the overall game experience than the textures being slightly blurrier because of disk compression.
ID is having issues with disk capacity because they are using megatextures; it is not a common thing in games.
Despite what PS3 users would love you to think; disk capacity isn't the end all decider on game quality.
Multiple discs. 6matt6
Exactly, if need be M$ will resort to multiple discs for their games.
You guys are forgetting one major fact, the whole reason why Blu-ray is storming the market is because Sony paid off the movie studios to stop using DvD's and go exclusive Blue-ray. That move burned alot of non-gamers as well as non PS3 owners. So while the PS3 may have been first on the gaming scene with Blue-ray, I seriously doubt it really gave them an edge over M$ and Nintendo. Not in the way DvD gave Sony the edge over Sega and Nintendo last generation. However this is all just my personal humble opinion.

Technically, MS requires 2gb of the space for various crap is Carmack is to be believed, so its down to like 7.5gb of space. The Rage engine with its megatextures is pretty much the only one that could be limited by DVD though. If the space is just being taken up by specific event sound effects and fmv's, then its not a problem to use multiple discs. As long as MS doesn't try to r*** them on the extra disc fees.

Read my post again. In my opinion 360 won because of games. Just like in my opinion Genesis, PSX, PS2 won the last couple of generations. I can't play sales! Fo me, the war is the games and the 360 has won that war for me!
Lol the trivial things you guys talk about amazes me.
Do you really think people outside of system wars care or even know about these things.
My friend who owns a PS3, still thinks they use DVD's.
No one really cares. System wars makes up a very small and "elite" part of the gaming public.
