Will the PS3 end up like the Dreamcast?

I am thinking of buying the PS3, but I am afraid of spending $500 on it if it is going to end up like the Dreamcast. Right now it looks like it is. System sales are low (they are getting better) no good games yet. Following the same path as the Dreamcast. I am afraid that in the next year, the PS3 will be over with and everyone would have wasted $400 to $600 on the system.

right now it is up in the air what will happen to the ps3 but imo it is not looking good, if the big games flop next year for it and hd dvd takes off with player being alot cheaper now then yes the ps3 will go like the dreamcast!

next year is a big hit or miss for it really.

Dreamcast is nothing like the PS3 in terms of how it failed.... Dreamcast was a great console with lots of great games even an AAAA game, sega just didn't have to money to fund it anymore..

The PS3 however is just total crap at the moment, it's got only a select few games, it's over priced, but sony have enough money to support it and I think it will get better. It certainly will not die off like the DC.

I agree. That makes no sense.

I don't think that there is much possibility that your PS3 will become the next Dreamcast. It's got some games coming out that, if they live up to previous reputation and hype, should rescue it.

However, I can't think of a good reason to buy one now.

In the last year yea. 5.8 mil to 2 mill. "2 point something." 360 % as of late is last. Not even a mill in japan. Take a few years of business and youll figure it out lol. Micro has the US fooled into thinking they wont finish last in this race.

I bought my 360 for Bioshock more than 6 months before the game came out and the PS3 for MGS4 even though that game is not out yet.

Why are you all hunged up on the Dreamcast. Sega just couldn't keep funding it. There are great games on the PS3 IMO you just haven't played them, and there are more on the way. But no Sony has money from the PSP the PS2, moives, music, etc. Don't buy one if you don't think the system you're getting doesn't have good games for it.

Some how I very much doubt it. One of the main reasons for the Dreamcasts flop is the serious lack of third party developer support it suffered, which is a killer for any console.zeus_gb

WOW!! I never knew you had a time machine, would people please stop judging this early, as i said it's only been out half a year here in europe and worldwide so wait till 09 till we make assumptions like this, ps3 could win or 360 could win but at the min wii is winning and thats final!

Well, Japan will probably be the reason PS3 finally out-sells x360 around Q4 2009-Q2 2010.

Like I said before, this is the gen where Sony's loses its dominance. In fact, it's already happening. Devs are making once-exclusive PS3games for the x360 & PS3 now. Xbox360 is now the lead platform for 99% of EA games (Madden being the most important one). Xbox360 software sales & attach ratio are great. And let's not forget how the Wii is now the casual gamer's console of choice.

The PS3 will be lucky if it can keep 60% of the marketshare the PS2 had.

What I meant was there was not many games that got high ratings that are out now. I am interested in a few games that did not get a high rating including The Eye of Judgement, Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire, Motorstrom, Time Crisis 4, and Heavenly Sword.

Also I already own a Wii and Xbox 360.

PS3 will not end up like DC. PS3 has sold more than the Wii in the past couple weeks, there are good games out for it (just Sony doesn't advertise) and the system won't die next year because Sony already paid millions of dollars making the system sellers for next year and the year after. If anything, 360 will die. There are no good exculsive games next year. Maybe just Alan Wake and a couple others. The 360 failure rate is still high. And the PS3 is the same price as the 360. Might as well take the better deal.

PS3=Game console, computer, media center, and HD movie player.
360=Just a game console.
