People seem to assume that just because something doesn't work now it will never work in the future lol.

The truth is that these companies will do whatever they can to make and save money. Cutting out shipping and manufacturing costs while keeping their content secure from piracy is a dream come true for publishers.

It will ultimately end up this way, but people continue to laugh it off.

Now I don't think it will end local hardware PCs, at least not up front, but consoles will definitely go this way. Its only a matter of time.

Sorry but no, MP has always been in consoles... day one. You just talking about scale, I can grant you that, but like some other guy said consoles made FPSs even more popular than PC... ask a random guy in the street about Halo and about Half Life and see what happens.
