http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Nintendo-Wii-Console-HD-Kotaku,news-5132.html

Recently kotaku conducted an interview with the NoA president, talking about Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 and how they're not coming to the nintendo wii. When asked how he felt about that, Fils-Aime seemed extremely disappointed, saying that he usually finds himself asking publishers why games like the ones mentioned aren't on the Wii.

Kotaku and Nintendo move on to talk about the games, and how the Wii hardware isn't capable of handling those types of detail-laiden titles. The Nintendo president defends the console, saying the games weren't originally slated for the Wii two years ago, originally deemed as ineffective on the platform at the time. Now, he says, that's not the case. "High-quality, effectively marketed against our installed base will sell, period end of story," he said.

But the root of all this console talk centers on what's to come in the future. By adding HD to the current Wii, Nintendo would be somewhere in the same market as Sony and Microsoft. Fils-Aime disagrees, claiming that it's not the way Nintendo does things by adding to existing hardware.

"The way we at Nintendo do things is, you know, when we will move to a new generation, it's because there are some fundamental things the [current] console cannot do. What that says is that simply the addition of HD capability will not be the next step for us. There will be more to it. There will be additional capability. There will be additional elements, and, given that, it is far into the future."

We're thinking Fils-Aime is tired of talking about the next console.

Oh!! my bad...

I think it could pull it off. Next year sheep willhave the big 3 and that will buy the Wii some time, 2011 is a wild card because we don't know much about it yet, but it'll grant enough time to the Wii to get to Dec 2012

I would say people need to quit worring about the Wii and Nintendo and worry more about MS/360 and Sony/PS3. Wii cost less to produce and they have made more money this gen probably then the others. So really...Nin is doing fine so no need to worry.

Bingo. No one here has anyway of knowing what consoles will be out/won't be out in 2012 or even the end of 2012.

I dont understand, reggie said HD will not be the next step for nintendo but then he says that there will be more to it. So is the next nintendo going to have HD or not? Will it be something better.

He's saying Nintendo is not just going to make a Wii HD, and console that is identical to the Wii but with HD graphics, nor are they going to make any sort of aftermarket add on that would somehow make that possible. What he is saying that when Nintendo makes their new console, it will have HD support, but the change will be more substanial than that. It will be something better than simply Wii HD.

Longevity comes from hardware/software sales, the console that lasts the most in the market is always the top selling one, yes. The Wii is still going to me going strong after the Ps3/360 are dead, thats my theory.

I think Nintendo will be using all their R&D to make their next platform slightly more powerful than PS3 or 360 and the competition will do the same, slightly boosting their hardware just a tad bit, so that all platforms will almost be on the same level. But who knows.

I don't see Nintendo just following their competitors. Maybe they'll finally add blast processing. the Super Wii, it has High Definition full 1080p graphics, a new motion control interface, and to top it off blast processing!

Honestly, would you really feel comfortable playing a system called the Super Wii.

I know enough

No More Heroes 2, Dragon Quest 10, Monster Hunter Tri, Tatsunko vs Capcom, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Zelda Wii, Pikmin 3, Metroid Other M, Tact of Magic, Sin & Punishment 2, are enough for me right now and enough for 2010

I presume at least either Zelda or Pikmin 3 will slip into 2011 and the other will highlight Nintendo's 2010 fall releases

I honestly think Nintendo will be the first out next gen, with a new console in 2011 or early 2012

I think they will capitalise on the modest success of the HD motion controllers by making a system with comparable hardware that can actually receive a lot of good multiplatform core games in the twilight of 360 and PS3 in 2012 and 2013 before PS4 and Xbox 3 finally come out

And i think the Wii 2 will be on par if not better than the Xbox 360, and launch for $200 or less

But thats my theory

Yes it will, but the PS3 and Xbox 360 will sadly not make it.
