That was always the knock on the 360 core sytem, you had to spend more money for a memory card to save your games, so the $299 price was a bit of a lie to the uneducated gamer.

Now at 279.99, only $20 more than the Wii, you get a 360 console that can play just the arcade games (5 of which come free) or the big-budget titles like Assassins Creed and Gears of War.

With Nintendo themselves saying they don't expect to meet demand yet again this Christmas, I really think this 360 Arcade System will steal a lot of sales from the Wii wanters. Especially those who live right in the middle of hardcore and casual.

The fact that for just $20 more now you can get a console that can output the best technologically advanced games of today while most Wii games still live in a last-gen world only makes the Wii's price look more ridiculous.

The core 360 and the Wii are the same price in the UK, but the Wii is still outselling it 2.5:1

You don't need a hard drive for saving games and playing all 360 games out of the box. You need it for demos and videos, or download content, but obviously this package is aimed at the more casual/mainstream gamers who want to buy a game at the store, open it, and play right out of the box. Then save their game at the end of the day and go to bed.

I think this is a good value, because what is the next step-up, the premium 360 at $350 with a 20GB hard drive. But why spend another $70 for hard drive space that a lot of gamers who aren't interested in demos and downloadabale content will ever need?

Yeah it comes with half the memory, but as anyone who owns a Wii and doesn't download a ton VC games knows, you don't even need that 512MB of Wii memory to save and enjoy your games.

This Arcade System solves the only major flaw of the 360 Core system, no memory out of the box to save your games. Now it has it, and now it's even cheaper.

The other problem... Some Xbox 360 games like to use the HD to speed up loading times... and some Xbox 360 games are HDD required...

Can you play online with out the HDD?

What games are hard drive required? And why can't you play online without a hard drive? It certainly hasn't affected Wii online games.

I don't know any off the top of my head, but I think PES08 or something is... I saw a box once that had a HDD required on it... and it's something that's apparently going to happen more from now on... Like GTA IV is rumored to be HDD required.

and as it why it can't play online Im asking... I don't know if Microsoft's online requires a hard-drive or not... you don't need it but it but that doesn't mean Microsoft can't require it for online play... (Good way to sell more harddrives...)

No. Unless Microsoft makes a serious image change, the 360 still only appeals to "hardcore" gamers.

Spending another 70$ for 2 free full games, a 20GB HDD, a headset and wireless controllers isnt bad value.I know the Arcade pack is aimed towards the casual market, but for a hardcore gamer, its pretty bad.

No dling demos/market place content. And not even all games can run without a HDD.Along with all the MMOs, some open world games like Borderlands require the HDD to run.To play the game, you basically have to spend another 120$.

Compared to the Wii, the Arcade pack is of decent value, but its no competition to the premium.

Hmm, I don't think so. My year and a half of woning a 360 I've never come across a game that required a hard drive. And last I heard the GTA IV team was having a problem with the 360 because the hard drive was not required. I doubt Micorsoft goes on record anytime soon and decides certain games need a hard drive seeing as they could split their buying audience.

I have a Hdd and I don't do anything other then games. For some people it will be exactly what they are looking for. As long as it has HD cables of some kind the arcade seems like a good deal.

Yes, I can't say how big an effect it will have but being able to buy a 360 and play Halo 3 for $20 more than a Wii is going to steal some sales from Nintendo. The people who say it won't seem to think the Arcade is geared towards hardcore gamers. Newsflash, it isn't. I don't know if you were confused by the lack of an HDD or the inclusion of hardcore titles like Uno, Boom Boom Rocket and Feeding Frenzy, but the Arcade is aimed right at the meat of the Wii consumer base- casual and non-gamers. People who don't care about demos, videos, online play etc. The arcade is perfect for a significant number of consumers and all things considered is probably a better value than a Wii.

Keep in mind that a big share of x360 owner never goes online, for them this is an excellent value if they want to play big titles like Bioshock, Halo 3, AC and COD4. If Nintendo can't meet demand this holiday you just be in denial if you don't think a pretty big chunk of the parents that would had picked up a Wii will pick up an Arcade instead.
