Last generation, on Xbox 360, we had a lot of quality strategy games, be it exclusive - Halo Wars, Viva Pinata 1 & 2 (actually only the sequel managed to end up being exclusive) - or games shared with PC like Battlestations Midway and Pacific, Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth, Tropico series and several others. This gen, so far, there has been almost none, apart from Zoo Tycoon, which wasn't a major release. There is Screamride in the making, made by the devs of the Tycoon and Elite series, but it's a hybrid of a Tycoon game with an unusual spin, but also it isn't a major release.
Now, Phil Spencer has said numerous times that he'd love to have a sequel to Halo Wars and that there hasn't been any proper strategy games on the Xbone but the potential is there.
Personally, an RTS title is what I'd want the most now, and I really don't mind playing RTS games on consoles, I've greatly enjoyed Halo Wars, I've also quite liked Command and Conquer games. With Kinect (although not mandatory anymore), I think they could really work. I think a hybrid of a streamlined strategy and an action game just like Battlestations games could easily translate into a successful console strategy game. Either that or an improved Halo Wars formula.
What do you think about the future of the genre on consoles?
