When you look at this image does it intimidate you or awaken your passion for elder scrolls.

For example When you reach skyrim borders would you like to continue on towards morrorwind leeave your wife or son there. run a business there similar to how you would in assasins creed brotherhood send them off too certain locations,

Seriously we need mod or something where elder scrolls is one whole game or add dlc where scrolls series changes over years through dlc

I wonder what will be bigger skyrim or kingdom of amalur: reckoning world map

It would be pretty legit to play Morrowind and Oblivion as DLC in one big game, but I doubt it will ever happen.

Maybe if bethesda becomes low enough to try and mmorpg.

Or an idea I've thought of, for their final game they could have each area on tameirl come one per expansion.

Didn't Daggerfall feature the entire map?Although I don't think it had the same level of detail as Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim.

I don't think that would be possible. Although this reminds me of one ambitious mod someone was attempting with New Vegas (basically connect Fallout 3's place with New Vegas with a train station, as long as you had both games installed). I'm not sure if it took off though. Last time I checked, the modder took it down (all it had so far was the train station that went nowhere, and it was still a WIP).

This is what I was thinking as I looked at the map. It'd probably be the best and only way to pull it off. Even then it would NEVER happen unless the game was turned into a persistant MMO since building the whole map would take years and years to do with who knows how much invested into it.

All of the provinces on that map are within the continent of Tamriel, which itself is on the planet of Nirn.

The only Elder Scrolls game I have is Morrowind which has a pretty big map. Looking at that map you posted I think that would be a bit to big of a project.

Not ever going to happen in an official capacity, or in any capacity I would imagine. Generating content for all that land would be a ridiculously monstrous task.

This mod initially talked about doing all of Tamriel, but I think that was a bit too ambitious. http://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/?p=main There are modders doing the other provinces for Oblivion.

Play Daggerfall. The size of that game will show you why they decided to go with the concentrated approach in Morrowind and subsequent games.

Considering the level of detail required you'll need a humongous amount of RAM to store all that plus the AI. It's hard enough with FSX and the detail in that sim is nowhere close to any Elder Scrolls game. If I "flew" long enough in FSX , I'm sure I'll use up all 8gb of my RAM. The farther I flew from my starting point, the more RAM FSX ate. I don't have the stomach for "flying" continuously for 10-12 hours though. Ha Ha!

Ram wouldn't be an issue...you don't run a whole map like that in memory... its streamed in. even oblvion/skyrim maps are streamed... only the immediate locations and close surroundings are rendered...and stuff in other parts of the world are frozen till you get there. It would take 100s of super computers to render the whole skyrim map at once and have all the AI "living" their lives when you are not there...simply not going to happen... 2gb is plenty of ram if consoles can play skyrim with 512mb.

Also they could easily make cyodil and skyrim one, but morrowind would need to be re-renedered in the new engine and remade as 40% of the mainland was never built. the other contenents were never built either... the project would take years...

MY solution, make each new game in a different country, then by the elder scrolls 10 or whatever in 2040 the can have it one big massive world... by that time it will propably be much easier to do and since each is mapped in their own game already, all the dungeons etc.. would be intact. The monumental scale of making quests and a game out of it though would be too much without precidural towns, dungones and stuff... we already had that game - daggerfall and it sucks nowadays becuase everything seems the same , nothing is unique.

Oh Arena TES1 lets you play on the whole map.

that is becuase the rendered doesn't release ram... its not streamed correctly. It should release distant areas after you are furthur away...which is how most open world games do it, or they wouldn't be able to run at all on the console. Any game that will eat up 8gb of ram is programmed like crap by ametuers... and will crash when ram is gobbled up.

Playing in all of Tamriel would be really awesome. All of Cyrodil from Oblivion, along with Morrowind, Skyrim and the other areas (Black Marsh, Valenwood, High Rock, Summerset Isles, Hammerfell, Elsweyr).

But at the same time, it would be tremendously impossible for several generations. This isn't one big island or even country like Just Cause 2, this is an entire CONTINENT, with the entirety of the locations in Morrowind, Skyrim and Oblivion's Cyrodil. I'm not even sure those games took place in the entirety of those areas, so you would have huge outskirts and forests and deserts and oh my God I wish this could happen.

Sadly, expecting something that big is like expecting a Fallout game in the entire United States. Too big, but man would it be awesome.

Perhaps we'll get two provinces. In any case, I don't think it's a matter of technological limitation as much as it is a matter of time. Surely, rendering all provinces requires considerable power but even with the latest technologies I doubt it'll be a feasible project unless, of course, most of the game is procedurally generated. So, a bigger map entails lower density and possibly, lower quality. We wouldn't have as many handcrafted dungeons.

I've always wanted that too, and I can see it happening, but not anytime soon. We don't have the power and devs don't have the times and resources for that. Of course, anything's possible in the future, and that can happen in the near future.

How do you deal with realtime, dynamic AI then?

I'm sure FSX releases RAM if required because I've played the game with a multitude of different computers including those with just 2gb of RAM. But the game also will use whatever available RAM there is. Most of my "flights" are fairly short and the biggest chunk of system RAM used (by Windows and apps + FSX) was 3.9gb. X-Plane 9 actually went above 4gb for about the same flight time duration. Come Christmas break, I'll have enough time for gaming to see just how much RAM both flight sims will use.

I believe there's possibilitys

Mods are most passionat people on planet once they see a commitment they see it through, all im saying is make all maps that arefrom previous elder scrolls but use bethesdas current engine and port rest in as seperate and make the borders asload points so when you cross that border a load incurs and you notice funny stuff you can continue your adventure, i couldn't care if there was no story and broken buggy continents as long as i can go there.

Why doesn't the people who made fall out new vegas work on this project but i know abethesda wouldn't sit idolly by and watch their planet nirm be destroyed by a simple thought.

I just want dlc larger then arma 2 map size anythings possible.

I was just going to mention that. Arena is the forgotten member of the franchise, even the old-school fans barely notice it under Daggerfall's shadow.

ImSwordMan

Sure.

Arena had the entire continent, Daggerfall had parts of High Rock and Hammerfell, Morrowind was set in parts of Morrowind, Oblivion was set in the entirity of Cyrodil and Skyrim is set in the entirity of Skyrim.

Anyway, what I'd like to see is basically a 'World of Xeen' approach to the series - making each new game compatible with the last, so that you can just cross over the boarder and continue either adventure at will.
