Will we see the 360 join its big brother in piracy-land?

Just noticed what must be a first; the 360 version of a simultaneous-release multi-platform game (Fallout 3) winding up on BitTorrent BEFORE the PC version (which hasn't leaked). What's more, it seems incredibly easy to mod a 360 and pirate games, from what reading I've done. Is this going to eventually, as more people cotton on to it, cause a similar situation on the 360 to what we see now with PC games?

M$ can stay above the curve with Xbox Live...luckily, that's been a success, so they can keep tabs on those gamers. For the gamers that don't use LIVE, there's not much they can do.

In the 360 pirating scene, the pirates tend to have Two 360's, one for Online, and one for pirating, but I don't see this being a mainstream problem yet. Many 360 owners want the Online experience, and don't own Two consoles, nor have the means to pirate.

PS2 had the same problem. Nothing drastic happened.

360 pirates stealth games now, MS can't tell. Only if they play games too early.

We will see if that new update curbs that.

Check torrent, and tell me what you think of the PS3, Wii, DS, PSP, PS2, Xbox, GC games available for download. It's not just PC or the 360. People think it's only the PC cause it's easier on that platform, but piracy actually affects all platforms.

Yeah its been on torrent sites for over a day or two, and has been downloaded en masse by people.

It was far far worse when GTA IV was leaked a week early though - it was liked the gate of piracy hell opened up.

Oh and the Wii and 360 are pretty pirate friendly, Wii especially. Handhelds moreso.

It was the same with the ps2. It was easy to mod and pirate games, however I don't see sony complaining about it.

There are on a 360?.... and a Wii? Of course not, modders find workarounds very quickly - as it keeps the sales of their mod chips (or softmod) products high.

PS3 piracy is basically non-existant. Sure some people have ripped the games and put them up for download, but there is no way to get a non-legit PS3 game to run on the hardware, so its basically pointless.

I think that's a lemmings' reaction to what Cliff B said the other day (about console players not being smart enough to pirate games), so they decided to prove him wrong :) Looks like they succeded...

Unless I'm mistaken, 360 games are already being pirated. And I'm not talking about torrents either; I've seen fake 360 games being sold over here. Unfortunately, piracy laws aren't as stringent compared to the US.

Jeez people, console piracy has been around for quite a while. Where in the world have you been? It didn't stop the PS1 or PS2 from selling consoles or games. When did some of you guys start gaming for this to be an issue?

pirating your xbox is much harder then pirating a pc game, to pirate an xbox game you need to mod your xbox first which is not that easy, to pirate a pc game you have to do absoultly nothing other then download the game. heck even i can pirate pc games, but my pc doesn't run them soo i don't really bother.

And Microsoft can detect if a pirated game has been launched from the machine. So basically, they can completely ban the account from accessing LIVE, and at one point they actually locked an entire console down.

The newer Xbox 360 consoles cannot be modified to play backups. Either way 360 piracy isn't nearly as bad as PC. When a popular PC game hits the torrents it gets over 100,000 downloads within hours.

Blu-ray is the media that the games are stored on.And are you absolutely sure PS3 games aren't being pirated? And can you absolutely say that they won't be? I have a 320 gig HD on my PS3, there's certainly enough space on there to rip a game on to it and run it without the disk.

Let me put it this way, It's only a matter of time until it happens, if it hasn't already.

I can't think of one piece of game media that hasn't been cracked yet. If somebody can make it, somebody can break it. Cracking Blu-ray isn't impossible, It's just impractical (for the time being). But whatever. I buy my games so I don't give a crap.

Briked Wiis can be reflashed and modded xbox run dual firmware.

Hell I know first hand, modding is legal here, and a few friends of mine mod all their consoles.

Well here, what friends who pirate do is either 1. Buy games from the modchipper - usually $2AUD for a new 360 or Wii game ($110-$99 normally at retail), or simply rent the game they want and copy it.

A friend who modded his Xbox had it RROD, he simply had it fixed by the same guy who modded it. Hell in the Trading Post here there are ads everywhere for console modders and 'repairers'. I had to visit one to get my Dreamcasts laser repaired after it burned out.

As for the new dashboard and whatnot, it doesn't really matter, people just run dual firmwares - if one screws up, they can just reflash it - running pirated games on one, and legit on the other.

personally though, all my consoles are unmoded, bar a boot disk I got with my second hand Dreamcast

dude you have no idea of what your talking about

blu ray being cracked means nothing thats like me saying i can play 360 games for free because dvd has been cracked lol

the game has to be digitally signed to alow the xbm to play it and in order to crack that you need the ps3 source code which to this day has not been compromised

The PS3 was compromised when Linux was allowed to be installed. There are many ways around the Blu-Ray disk when you have linux installed

360 is hacked almost right from the launch date yet software sales are out of this world from day one .

People don't want to risk breaking warranty or get banned from Live .

The PS3 cannot play pirated games. What does blu-ray being hacked have to do with PS3 games? Nothing.

micky4889

Blu-ray is the media that the games are stored on.And are you absolutely sure PS3 games aren't being pirated? And can you absolutely say that they won't be? I have a 320 gig HD on my PS3, there's certainly enough space on there to rip a game on to it and run it without the disk.

Let me put it this way, It's only a matter of time until it happens, if it hasn't already.

PS3 cannot play backups and it has been 2 years already.

I can't think of one piece of game media that hasn't been cracked yet. If somebody can make it, somebody can break it. Cracking Blu-ray isn't impossible, It's just impractical (for the time being). But whatever. I buy my games so I don't give a crap.

dude you have no idea of what your talking about

blu ray being cracked means nothing thats like me saying i can play 360 games for free because dvd has been cracked lol

the game has to be digitally signed to alow the xbm to play it and in order to crack that you need the ps3 source code which to this day has not been compromised

So what you are telling is that PS3 games will never be cracked? Are you telling me that Sony will manage to do this gen what no company that has offered digital content has been able to do?

Really? I can't believe how naive some people are.

Nope. I don't think 360 piracy will ever get as bad as PC piracy.

I think he is trying to tell you that at the moment (today), no one has been able to run pirated PS3 games on the PS3.

I find it highly amusing you would have the nerve to say that when you COMPLETELY misinterpreted what I said. And I wasn't even talking to you originally in the first place. :|

It's quite convenient that you would also omit my original post. You say I have no idea what i'm talking about, yet you argue about the inevitable. Good going, scholar.

Nope. You still need mod chips. The average gamer isn't going to bust out a soldering iron and crack open their 360 nor will they buy a one from a shady shop based out of Taiwan.

The only way any console will get piracy as bad as the PC is when you don't need mod chips to play the games. If you can just DL a file, burn it to disc and start playing it (ie the dreamcast) then I think console piracy will take off. Until then, it'll still be an insane minority that do it. I've been console gaming for like 20 years now and I've only known 1 person in my life who actually owned a modded console.
