I am still thinking about returning my X1. The only thing that really is bothering me is spending the extra money for a system that is not as powerful as the P4...I just can't get it out of my mind. The 720p is bothering me.

Do you think with mature rev tools and drivers that the X1 Will be able to get where I needs to be in regards to resolution and frame rates? Is it capable of it? Please... not fanboy responses.

@farrell2k: Are you pretty happy with your X1? I love it expect for the power different and the price. The controller rocks and Xbox live and the software rocks as well.

doesn't really matter one bit as long as you enjoy the games and tv snap chat.

but if your coming into a next generation wanting the best graphics and best frame rate (pc excluded) then xbox one is a little worrying to say the least, we can all go about saying o 720p upscaled is as good as 1080p native, but reality is there is a difference, and if were at the starting mark of the new consoles and one is ahead already at 1080p and it only gets better over the years, it's a little worrying.

but like microsoft have said there market isn't games anymore thats the add on for a all in one multimedia box which really isn't an all in one box because you still need a cable box which is hd to run the tv through and once your hardrive is up you need to buy an external one so it ends up being a all in three boxes. it's only the die hard fanboys who will disagree, but facts are facts.

At 1080/60 xbone graphics will hardly be better than X360. So expect a lot of 720p and 900p at 30 fps. PS4 the true 1080p next gen gfx machine.

Both consoles will settle at best on 1080p/30FPS and 900p/60FPS for the vast majority of games.

You should be asking if X1 can reach 720p with consistent fps and leave 1080p to pc/ps4

No, X1 will "sometimes" have a 1080p game but don't expect that game to look good at all. If you want good looking 1080p game then you should buy a PS4.

let's say that true even though it isn't, i was just proving wrong the guy i quoted, dead rising does not run at 1080p and 60 fps, i know he's just a troll but some people might think its true.

Will the PS4? The only disc based releases that manage 1080p/60fps are CoD (which looks ten years old) and Killzone, which can't even maintain it, leaving the player with stuttering issues.

There were more native disc based 1080p+30/60fps games on the PS3 in the first year of release than there was in the last year per game sold. By the end of this generation, we'll be seeing even more 720p PS4 games.

Ok you open with fanboy comments and are worried about getting fanboyism in return. Why don't you just play the games and not worry about what is on paper.

This is the latest about IGN's CoD:Ghosts comparison. (They should loose cred for saying it was 1080p in the first place) PS4 looks blurry in spots, X1 is sharper.

Can you tell 720p from 1080p in these? I don't think so.

X1 has more big exclusives coming and they are mostly new IP's.

i can clearly see the difference on my 32 inch 720p to 1080p but its funny that the cockroach fanbase are now claiming they can see it, and see differences in multiplate games yet they could not see it in the 99 % better multiplate on the 360. also roaches are liars. they said there was a difference in the xbone version in cod before the 1080 patch. roaches are untrustworthy when it comes to gaming. they are fanboys and not gamers. they only play system war since last gen. heck even the crappy knack sold well. they will play anytype of shit just to claim there exclusives rock.

if u are a gamers u should get console witht he games u like. and play all good games, u should not care if a game is multi or exclusive.

More or less it will likely end up with around the same amount as the PS4 will end up with. Both systems will have lots of games that cut corners by reducing the resolution. If you care lot about 1080p gaming get a competent gaming PC instead or even one of the steam machines coming out soon.

Depends on a number of factors, but especially effects and polygon count. The lower those are set, the easier it'll be to achieve 1080p/60fps.

Also, X1 and PS4 are drastically similar devices. If you already own a PS4, take a look at getting a top or mid level PC for gaming before an X1. There aren't enough exclusive titles to justify owning an X1 over a PC that runs multiplatform games at mid to high settings at 1080/60, unless you have an unshakeable group of buddies on XBL.

I can't see either machine maintaining 1080/60fps throughout the gen. As soon as the games start becoming more ambitious over the next few years you will start seeing sacrifices on both, resolution and framerate will suffer for sure.

I seriously doubt either will drop below 720p, I think they will average at 720/900p and 30fps. You can't just say that they should be hitting 1080/60 because last gen consoles managed 720/30. Games are becoming far more detailed, complex and larger so comparing to last gen is pointless.

Yes, most of the future XB1 games will be 1080P @30fs or 60fps.

Now that devs have the updated hardware and update O/S, we'll probably start seeing a lot of 1080P games leading up to E3. All the games released on PS4 and XB1 are 1080P anyways. They are either native or upscaled. So you're not really seeing any games at 720P.

Isnt fifa, need for speed, madden and forza 1080P for the X1 so I don't get how its so hard to believe games will be 1080 in the future. Plus I don't think anyone wants to talk about how hard it is to develop for the X1 anymore because then they also have to admit that games will look better the more they develop for the platform like ps3 when it first came out.

Every xbone game has the ability to run at 1080p, it just comes down to what resolution devs want to target to achieve the overall best looking game. The realized gap in graphics will only close as graphics evolve and the role of diminishing returns increases.

Not to mention only a single multiplat plat has such a large disparity. BF is only 720p vs 900p, and other multiplats like NFS more or less achieve parity between versions and both run at 1080p. Using the worst case scenario of rushed launch ports isnt really indicative of the actual graphical gap as every now and then a port will manage to get completely bungled.

In reality with people complaining about the less than stellar graphical improvements of ports over last gen, the horsepower differences between the PS4 and Xbox is a tiny fraction in comparison. As the platforms mature, the gap will likely shrink and the realized graphical performance between the platforms will be negligible.

Whether or not games on the bone will consistently be in 1080p really depends on how much that matters to the average consumer's eyes, numbers sound good from a marketing standpoint, but are much less significant in reality.

The smaller the screen, the least likely you'll be able to tell the difference. That's a fact. Also, NONE of the games are actually in 720P, as every game on the PS4 and XB1 is either 1080P native or 1080P upscaled. XB1 has a superior upscaler compared to the PS4, which is why games like CoD & BF4 looked sharper. Forza 5 is native 1080p 60fps and looks incredible.

Im the opposite, i would like to see games work towards photorealism at 720p, than run at 1080p/60fps and still obviously look like games.

Although dynamic resolution scaling could offer a happy medium imo.

It depends of MS priorities. Personaly, i think 1080p/60 should be mandatory this gen.

Im the opposite, i would like to see games work towards photorealism at 720p, than run at 1080p/60fps and still obviously look like games.

Although dynamic resolution scaling could offer a happy medium imo.

The thing is that this gen just started and you already have games with amazing graphics and high performance (Shadow Fall, Battlefield 4...). Shadow Fall runs at 1080p and 40/50fps, looks great and it's a launch game. Battlefield 4 looks amazing, runs at 900p/60, and it's a launch, multiplatform and cross-generation game.

Those games are the equivalent of CoD2, PDZ or Resistance FoM, which look like crap compared to recent 360/PS3 games.

Agreed, there will undoubtedly be huge improvements as time progresses. I think i would rather the approach be starting at 720p and offering highly detailed realistic in game assets and advanced particle effects/physics, then once they got that down, use optimization to incrementally increase the resolution/fps.

By mid gen you can probably have your cake and eat it too. I just dont think mandatory 1080/60 is a good starting point. Especially given that the overall benefit can vary greatly depending on genre.

@neversummer75:

Yes. Do not believe the cow PS4 hype. Ghosts, for instance, was going to be 1080p/60FPS on XB1 as well, IW either did not have the time to optimize the code or had to deal with incomplete APIs (they won't say which) because the decision to push it down to 720 was made a month before launch. They have a version of it running at 1080p/60FPS.

The PS4 and XB1 are very close, spec wise. Cows want people to believe in this "supah PS4 powah", but it's all BS.

Hmm...i think that 1080p/60 is the perfect starting point! People will get used to it and wont allow devs to go lazy, down to lower performances later in the gen.

I totally agree with the last part of your post, though. Not every game needs to be 1080p/60. 900p is a perfectely acceptable resolution for most genres, and lower paced games could perfectly be 30 or so pfs. I just can't stand 720p/30 anymore, especially considering most 720p games has terrible AA and most 30fps games have dips to low 20s.
