This is really a bad precedent to support. This is the first gen where games aren't even completely shaken down for bugs because the publishers know that even if they rush the game out the door, they can just patch it later if people get mad.

Now we're getting games that are intentionally missing significant features, and the publishers expect us to put our faith in them and hope the promised features show up somewhere between just after launch and before people stop caring.

Whats next? Shipping the disc that only contains a license file which allows you to download the full game when it comes out 'real soon now'?

EDIT: One more thing. How are these games going to be reviewed? Are reviews going to hold off until the features are released, or are they going to pretend as if the features are there, or are they going to review the game based on whats on the actual disc?

No, I will buy them both launch day, but I hate supporting the idea of incomplete games shipping. This has been going on for awhile, and it's getting worse, imo.

I guess on the other side of the coin, they could have shipped with the features knowing that they are broken, and then ship patches a month or two later after everyone is mad for having a broken feature.

Indeed. I can't believe some individuals are up in arms over this. We're getting the patch the week of release for both. Don't like it, buy it the week after. It doesn't matter.

No, that is a lie. They are HOPING they can get a working patch out sometime during the week after launch. If they knew with 100% certainty that they could do this, they would have just delayed the game by one week. They can't make any promises.

That's assuming that it will happen. That's what they say, but unforseen circumstances do arise. The bigger issue is the acceptance of incomplete games. What's next?

Completely untrue. They have said very simply that the game will have online co-op applied in an update within a week of launch. It is much easier to simply do that than delay the shipping of a game. You act like delaying a worldwide release is as simple as just calling someone up and asking them to wait a little longer. Shipping a game is a huge operation.

this shouldnt even be an issue of discussion. its so trivial seeing as we're not going to be deprived of the extra features for more than a week or so. this certainly should not affect your purchase, cuz its a very sad thing if it does.

The games are complete. It's just lacking one mode until it's patch, which should be treated more as a bonus, seeing that very few games have decent co-op, or co-op at all.

If it were the games single player portion that needed the update then yea I would be pretty pissed off but since it's the online portions only I don't really care....online portions of games have always been like this, they're constantly being updated and fixed or improved upon.

Day 1 for Fable 2 for me, co-op isn't a big deal for me even if it's available. I'll be playing it when I get the patch but of course I want to focus on building up my character first.

That would be funny if you had to pay like 5 bucks to get the extra Fable 2 content that was originally supposed to be in the game because of Xbox live.

Releasing code and then doing a 'hot fix' shortly after is common across all aspects of software development. Hell, the project I'm working on at the moment will release with features being patched shortly after.

Did you guys ever notice that the patches are always this magical "week" away? When Mass Defect came out it's patch was a "week" away, when Warhawk didn't record stats the fix was a "week" away.

There are plenty more examples but I think you get my drift. Maybe LPB and Fable won't fit the normal pattern but I doubt it and I certianly hope I'm wrong but I tend to apply past events to guess at the outcome of future events. Most times it works but every once in awhile things suprise me.

And we should not be treating features we were expecting from the begining as a bonus if they come after the game is released

Its not that big of a deal as long as it is released pretty soon. I think within a month is soon but I also don't sell games after owning them for a week... maybe for that person a month is too long to wait.

If everything major is working fine, i'm happy. Fable II is a RPG so the major part of that is single player. LBP's big thing is making levels and sharing them. From what i've read, both of those aspects are totally fine. They are basically delaying bonus content imo. I don't mind that.

100% of people who can play the missing online content have an internet connection and will be able to get it as DLC when its released. The only thing i'd mine is if the box for the game said these features are on the disc and then you play it and they aren't there.

So all those moaning, if you were in charge you'd miss your release date purely because a relatively minor feature is not complete?

Do you have any idea how much damage missing launch does for your game??

I'm not sure about LBP, but regarding Fable II it's a matter of days. Boycotting the game for a couple of days seems quite utterly pointless and silly to me.

Sure, when games are released they should be complete, but is this really worth getting all upset about? Either the game would've been delayed a week, or it's released a week earlier and you wait a week for online co-op. I'm fine with either. I don't know why they're releasing these games with missing features, seems sort of weird, but to be honest I don't really care. As long as they keep their word and add the stuff shortly.

No, but you would have to expect some backlash as well. Not everyone is going to be, "What? No coop? You promise it'll be here in a week? No problem!"

So what You are basically asking, which is the question everyone seems to be avoiding, is "where do You draw the line".
If something is left out that makes a game not worth its money to me, i won't get it.
Doesn't matter if it comes a week later or not at all.
I'll count it in when it's in.
Simple as that.

That's an interesting point. If these patches become the norm, how big will they be? Plus, we'll have to deal with the install quandry that PS3 users have.

Okay, I know, "Just buy a new harddrive!"
