At Microsoft's //Build/ 2016 conference on Wednesday, Xbox head Phil Spencer announced that Microsoft had heard the (negative) feedback on Universal Windows Apps loud and clear, and will be supporting modding and overlays on the Universal Windows Platform.

Microsoft also plans to support disabling V-Sync and enabling games to work with G-Sync and FreeSync Variable refresh monitors in an update coming in May.

More here.

Thoughts?

Shouldve been there from the beginning.

Not having it has turned a lot of people off already.

Good but these issues could've been handle from the very start but hey, it's never too late to correct your mistakes then not fixing it at all.

And yet I still cant see Quantum Break on the store, can you not pre-order and pre-download on windows 10 store? that's what it looks like.

As for fixing all this, great, I like options. Kind of like the option to buy Quantum Break directly on my pc.

M$ is smart going Console/PC Hybrid.

I'm sure they forsee a lot of console gamers jumping ship to PC gaming once consoles become a 2-3 year cycle

This still isn't good. I'd rather have all my games on Steam instead of having to manage yet another game client and store front.

Better get used to it. Same thing that is happening with Netflix. Studios and content creators are starting to use their own apps and storefronts now to maximise profits.

I like how they listen to community feedback and actually improve on things.

A big contrast with GFWL: where it was literally "Oh, what ? you don't like what we have. Well, you can go f yourself, we ain't improving anything"

The people in charge of GFWL are long gone. The people behind this UWP thing are a different team iirc and have more experience with gaming.

Has nothing to do with being a console gamer, it's the logical understanding that developers don't have to let you Mod there games but they do so Because they are generous like that.

It's nice to have but it's not something that 'should be there'

and i play plenty of games on PC, i am playing Dawn of war 2 at the moment, i just prefer to play older games that i cannot play on consoles.

And i have used mods on minecraft for my kids

might even get rogue squadron now it's on steam.

Back in the days of GFWL and Vista MS just didn't really like PC, PC gaming or PC gamers.

Worst thing they did was leave developers and gamers in the dust when it came to handling problems they had with GFWL. When you are trying to sell a platform to people, don't act all entitled, but actually be humble and listen.

It's a good thing they are doing that now.

Agreed. They look like a different company. I like the changes of people with Nadella and Spencer who are kinda losing that "businessman" model and are actually focusing on the tech and games.

@blessedbyhorus: I am agreeing with you that it's good MS is responding to feedback. He said only because of media backlash. Like I give a crap why or what fueled MS to take the feedback and act on it? People act like they are supposed to forge meaningful friendships with these companies. I give them money for what I wish to make use of from them. Business.

Yep, I'm not sure why everyone loves to bring up MS past mistakes and think they're relevant today. Apple has done a lot of f*ckups as well yet never been mentioned.
