I just recently picked up a PSP (really loving it) and I got Wipeout Pure because of it's decent price. This wasn't my first outing with Wipeout as I had played it on the PlayStation, and later played Wipeout Fusion on the PS2. So far Pure is one of the best racers I have ever had the joy of experiencing. It is impossibly exhilarating to be flying down a track at 1,000 miles per hour (literally) while dodging incoming fire. All the while there is the well fitting electronic tracks pulsing. The feeling I get from Wipeout makes me feel great! :) Any other Wipeout nuts here?

Here are some screenshots of the upcoming game Wipeout HD (PS3). I posted them to give newcomers an idea of what Wipeout is like.

I don't know. I really don't like to play racers to an excessive amount.

The one I have had the most fun with would probably be Mario Kart or Burnout.. The "arcadeish" ones.

To be honest... I prefer F-Zero games (Especially GX and it's painful sense of speed) over Wipeout. Don't get me wrong, Wipeout's a great series I believe too. It's a mesh of Mario kart and F-zero. Two genres that can't go wrong, not to mention they have some kick-a** soundtracks of blaring Techno/Electronica music. 8)

But for a futuristic type racer I prefer F-zero. Who needs to worry about weapons, when the speed is just as deadly and a split-second error can cost you the race? 8) Maybe it's not for all, but I enjoy it.

I do enjoy F-Zero. However, I think I like the style of Wipeout a little better. The look/music blends perfectly. So clean and slick!

WipEout is easily a top 5 racer for me.

It probably goes.....

  1. Gran Turismo
  2. Mario Kart
  3. WipEout
  4. Project Gotham
  5. F-Zero

Not even close, wouldn't even be top 10. Just another F-Zero clone.

WipEout was a 3D racer long before F-Zero ......so id have to say it had to do something that wasnt so much of a "clone" unless of course wipout psx was a blatant ripoff of FZero SNES

Wipeout's style is cool. I love the total techno blaze and how everything feels so out there in it's designs. It's no doubt one of my top five racers, and yet I give the nod to F-zero just cause I appreciate the sense of speed more. F-zero's focus is pure spped, and it shows that and IMO outshines Wipeout still on it. Phantom mode is blazing fast, but I don't think it compares to the speeds of F-zero still. :P

Also, just wondering... off topic but did you ever play Extreme-G? Man... I loved those games, and they were perhaps the best games ever made by Akklaim before they died out. :D

I don't mean to label you, but I don't really think you have ever played a Wipeout game.

Wipeout has forged it's own look and feel. It hardly plays like F-Zero - I think it's more entertaining.

I know I loved the N64 game. :D I never played the PS2 one though, which I believe was the last one... but my favorite was by far the N64 game and it was just a thrill to play. :D

Yeah, it was. Really junky versions. You haven't played Wipeout unless you have played the more current ones. By the way, anyone who says Wipeout is sluggish or slow compared to F-Zero needs to play Zone mode. My god... now that is speed!

Yeah Zone is crazy, but really? Wipeout was on the N64 and PC? I never knew that... I thought they were only on Sony systems... Interesting... learn something new. :P

every other wipeout game has been junk since Wipeout 3 Spcial Edition. That was the best. Sony have really made me angry with the series. Wipeout 4 (PS3) is the last chance i give them.
