With the ps3 being breached does this mean we can expect more console sales?

im talking hardware, does this mean that people who diddnt want a ps3 before will want one now because of the piracy? clearly software will take a beating but shouldnt hardware increase?

The hack is the security key has been determined so the software only needs to be signed to be recognised as official software. No mode chip is required. Also as for banning from on line services as the software been used is recognised as official software it will be very hard to determine who is running illegal software. Hence why this hack is more severe and could be a huge problem for Sony.

Back to the original question, i believe that this could have a slight effect on hardware sales as the PS3 has be proved to be a very efficient at number crunching (also at media encoding), an excellent tool for education and scientific purposes. I have seen reports that linked PS3 make excellent and cheap super computers.

I know, unfortunately the only ones that gain are the console manufacturers cause they sell more units... Luckily there are many other millions of gamers who dont support piracy and thanks to them (me included :p) and the money they spend on original titles make it possible for devs to make profits and invest money on new titles every generation of systems

Why dont you just stop buying games period if you beleive that games are a ripoff and the companies behind them are greedy, why pirate them?

The increase will be very very minute. The hack was, first and foremost, done for piracy (and then defended with "I don't condone piracy" bs), just like all hacks. The small minority of those who will now purchase a ps3 simply to "tinker" with it, won't even come close to the title wave of piracy coming.
