read the 8th paragraph.

which reads

Looking up above, we see cables that look like power lines or telephone lines, swaying in the wind. (There's practically not a jagged line to be found on the power lines, or any other lines, for that matter; we're told it's because Killzone 2 is using the Cell's SPUs and the RSX graphics chip to achieve 4x full-screen anti-aliasing.) There's a glow decal that happens when bullets make contact; right now it's applied to all weapons, but they're planning to dial it back and only have it apply to certain weapons. Even the tracer fire seems specific to Killzone 2, as if it has a slight upward arc the further it gets from the muzzle.

WOOWW, but didnt lemmings claim that ps3 could never do this, on the 3 cores in the 360 could?

is some one owned?

PS3 - 1 CPU, 3.2 GHZ + 7 SPU's 256KB 1.0 GHZ + 256 MB RAM + 256 MB RAM + RSX

if a developer can make all those talk to each other efficiently, amazing things are possible

I'm betting in the end both consoles will have games so similar, that only SW users would bicker about the difference.

This isn't ownage because 360 is easily capable of that but its good news. Hopefully they'll show 3rd parties how to do it so we'll stop getting jaggy half-assed ports. PS3 really should've had a frame buffer like 360...

Next gen Sony really needs to learn the lesson of making everything availiable and easy to do at launch... 3rd parties levitate toward which console allows for the most tack on effects.

neither systems can just do HDR and AA at the same time on any game they want. not even 360 like many will have you believe. look at forza 2, it was suppose to have 4x MSAA, what happened there. its up to the devs.

MSAA is all on the GPU, Cell has nothing to do with it.

And obviously it can do 4xMSAA, considering Killzone, Resistance, and Heavenly Sword all do it.

saying that so lemms come in to see this becuase lemming would always say that PS3 was only cable of HDR or AA at one time KZ2 however proves them wrong.

They probably meant that Cell is being used to do some graphics-related stuff, and that allows them do to everything they do (including 4xAA). I know of know way Cell could be used to perform AA, but I suppose its possible GG is doing something really wacky. Regardless, you certainly don't need the Cell to do 4xAA.

Don't know how Guerilla does it, the only devs to talk about their method is Ninja Theory which uses an alternate color-space encoding that doesn't require floating-point buffers. I would imagine Guerilla is doing something similar.

extremely false, very very false

I was under the impression that whilst the gpu was unable to do simultaenious HDR and AA the devs found a way to achieve fake lighting effects, not true HDR but its difficult to see the difference so it works well.

it's really funny that you came upon this topic as I did, because I was going to send you a question about the Cell/KZ2/4xAA. But then I forgot how your name was spelled, and I had to write it down when I last saw you, and yada yada yada...

So anyway, isn't the Cell adept at graphics output? I didn't know that AA was just a GPU thing, but the Cell has GPU capabilities, right?

The PS3 can do 4xAA when there's no HDR, normal maps or self-shadowing and if they keep the textures lo-res.

Cell doesn't really have GPU capabilities per se, its just powerful enough at vector math that its actually feasible for it to do some things are normally done on the GPU. MSAA is a hardware-optimized method of AA and therefore can't really be done on the Cell.

Sure...it can also do it when there's AA, normal maps, self-shadowing, and high-res textures. Killzone, HS, and Resistance are proof of that.

Sorry to burst your bubble guys, but 4x AA is a mistake on newsweeks behalf. A Killzone 2 Dev, Seb Downie AKA MotherH posted this on the playstation forums. "One point, the 4x full screen anti-aliasing is actually 2x.". Here is the link.

YEZZER

Your title says that it "can't" do 4x AA. You need to edit that.

thats was just to draw the lemmings in, u no they **** all over them selfs when they hear bad news of ps3

nice setting up the ownage

[QUOTE="Teufelhuhn"]Lol, they both can. And even the new 8800's can only do 8x MSAA. :Pfoxhound_fox

I thought one of the new lines of cards was supposed to hit either 24xAA or 24xMSAA? :?

They can do 16xCSAA (coverage sampling antialiasing), which is different from MSAA. You can also do more in certain SLI/Crossfire modes, but I don't know how high you can go off the top of my head.

So is MSAA better than CSAA or something?

[QUOTE="spark_212"]Sorry to burst your bubble guys, but 4x AA is a mistake on newsweeks behalf. A Killzone 2 Dev, Seb Downie AKA MotherH posted this on the playstation forums. "One point, the 4x full screen anti-aliasing is actually 2x.". Here is the link.farrell2k

It's a somewhat controversial topic. To my eyes it doesn't always look as nice as 8xMSAA, but generally performs better.
