World of Final Fantasy - 6/10: Massive PS4 Flop

We've got another No Man's Sky on our hands. Hyped to high heavens by all the cows here, only to fall flat on its face.

It's just flop after flop with the Playstation 4. Like, just stop.

I heard they made it like Pokemon, interesting mix. I like the ideal of going from normal to chibi head though.

Well,at least it has a higher score than Quantum Break.

Played the demo and like it, so I bought it.

I dont see nothing its doing different though. And its using fetch quests which everyone complains about. I hope it does good, but i just dont see it.

Never heard of this game, I doubt 95% of PS4 knew either.

I tried the demo i liked the combat especially the active combat mode and the stacking but i couldn't stand the chibi characters no matter how i looked at it.

Which proves the point that it did not flop. Games that are hyped are known by a large number of gamers, as who would hype an obscure title?

Ordered it, got 79 on Metacritic, it's good enough for me.

I was hyped for it and..........I'm still hyped for it lol.

I took a glance at the 'bad' in the review notes and it sounds like some complete personal opinion preference being given more weight than the critical factual elements.

THE BAD

• The story is confusing at first and takes its time getting moving

Dugh...it's a fuvking RPG

• Battles are slow even when you’re fast-forwarding

And?

• Interactions with classic FF characters are limited

Not seeing where that was supposed to be a promise of the game..

• Tama has the world’s most annoying speech pattern

Nothing there makes sense for a negative score honestly, just random personal opinions that the reviewer decided he's label "bad" when his gripes don't really support his score over the good

THE GOOD

• Gorgeous environments filled with charming characters

• Punchy, funny dialogue make NPC interactions highly enjoyable

• The stacking system adds a nice bit of combat strategy

Game looks crazy good, fun, charming and even the reviewer admitted the system has nice layers of strategy so what's left? Pure personal opinion about the experience!

It's cool the reviewer thinks this is a 6.0 game, it's cool if you take his word at face value as well but all his gripes about the game can be summed up to his personal opinion.

I honestly wouldn't rate the quality of a game based on that since others might not share that feeling. He put too much weight on his opinion here honestly but It doesn't bother me it's his opinion.

I know I will enjoy this game and this looks much more enjoyable than some of the big AAA games like The Witcher 3 that I wasted money on earlier this year which *I* didn't personally like.

Wasn't really on my radar but at least it's better than Quantum Flop and Flopcore and almost as good as Gears of Flop so this is a masterpiece in lems world. TLHBO.

I didn't even know it was coming out and I probably won't even remember by tomorrow. No disappointment here. Besides, if it ain't Persona 5, I don't care.

It can't flop if it was not hyped.

The game has Celes, Edgar from FF6 and a bunch of cool characters, but im not a fan of the chibi art style it makes the game look cheap.

It's this whole like cheap looking Mobile art style, chibi art styles its disgusting to me it doesn't look good its never going to look good.

We need bring back pic looking spirtes remember street fighter 2's? Those sprites were awesome why does every game have to look CHIBI and mobileish and stuff THTS NOT In ITS NOT in style its just never gonna be in style for me.

An RPG doesnt necessarily need a confusing story at all, and that has never been inherant to the genre. In fact, a lot of wRPGs avoided having such overly confused and obvious lack of need of editor. Any reason you dont know the protagonists name in the first 10 minutes?

Slow battles is a serious problem. And one of the many reasons ATB is a complete steaming pile of crap, compared to turn based. There is no excuse to be waiting for a few seconds between acts not doing anything.

Annoying characters is a pretty big detriment.

Reviews are a summary of the personal experience.

Yeah, looks like this is a game that's meant to appeal to the lowest denominator of ps4 gamers. When I found out what kinda game this really is, I got completely turned off. No thank you! Best suited as a portable game. Shame too, it had so much potential.

@ProtossRushX: the art style(which I don't like either) is like that because it will get ported to iOS and android, heck the switch might be able to handle it.

people here consider Doom a faliure compare to battlefield and titanfall because earlier got 8 and later got 9. but in reality former is better than both combine.

Reviews are supposed to be a critical evaluation of the QUALITY of a game. The personal opinion and experience play a part but shouldn't be the main criteria in a review.

Over opinionated personal experiences of games are for your BLOGs; big difference when you're supposed to be delivering an estimation of the general quality of a game.

Don't come to me talking out of your ass when you don't even know what reviews are supposed to cover. There are no excuses here, I just pointed out his bad points are clearly opinionated preference and not clear negative deterrents and I pointed out the fact that the reviewer is entitled to his opinion so WTF are you talking about really?

Understand that I am simply saying other may not agree with his opinion of bad points since they lean toward a personal preference rather a factual negatives others feel and if you're too stupid to understand that from my post then you need to go back to reading comp 101.

I hate that turn based seems dead but hopefully you're right about FFXV. I want it to be a megaton in the genre, like VII was almost 20 years ago.

Whats more worrying is the lack of good games on either system.

Slow combat and grating characters are the big screw ups. I expected both from Square, however.

However, it's the monster catching nonsense that turns me off the most. I hate monster catching in any RPG, and I especially hate it when that aspect is tied directly to your playable party.

We can't discount that FM5 was a 9.0 game to the reviewer here at GS but clearly that opinion wasn't universally shared. The same doubly applies to nich JRPG games like this whose base community generally doesn't same the same opinion as mainstream american reviewers.

Gamespot was 1 of 6 that has a mixed review with 32 positive...seems like most enjoy or rather rate this title as very good and a few didn't, for a game like this 78 is pretty good considering american reviewers.

Looks like a complete flop. However, I don't recall anyone talking about this game here in system wars, so I am not sure how much of a loss it is. This aint even close to No Man's Sky.

I'm not sure anyone hyped this game. I for one didn't even know what it was... still don't. Might go watch a youtube video, but from the little pieces I did see... well, I wasn't feeling it at all from the very start.
