For this week only, pay as much as you feel like for World of Goo. You can pay only 1 cent, and still get the game.
(Buy 100 copies for 1$, and give them to us!)
I don't think consoles have sales as epic as these, do they?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
wasnt this game the one with the highest piracy ratio? as in everyone just downloaded it and no one bought it?
They must have figured they should get SOME form of compensation back, even though it's 1 cent only... PC Gaming is GREAT.
Not sure, I downloaded it, then bought it on a Steam sale.wasnt this game the one with the highest piracy ratio? as in everyone just downloaded it and no one bought it?

Basically. Compared to most other retail games, this one took up far less space, making it easier to download. Plus, iirc, there was no crack or keygen to worry about.

[QUOTE="alextherussian"]Dang, I feel pretty bad for the developers. indeed, but look at it this way, i heard this game was created by only a couple of ppl. Imagine if they make a world of goo 2. They could get all the help and sponsorship they need since the first one was well recieved. If they don't do that, then putting this title on their resume could put them in a top position job. I still honestly feel bad for the developers though.http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2008/11/acrying-shame-world-of-goo-piracy-rate-near-90.ars

They made tons of money out of this game, half of all revenues they got from Goo was from PC version(not to mention they got the money to finish the game from PC version preorders)
So you shouldn't feel bad for them. They don't feel bad about it themselves(the only reason why they gave out their piracy numbers (the number later on was corrected to 82%) is to show DRM doesn't work at all, as Richochet had DRM and yet had the same piracy numbers
[QUOTE="alextherussian"]Dang, I feel pretty bad for the developers. You should. You said "I don't think consoles have sales as epic as these, do they?"... Well, they don't have piracy like PC either that drives developers to do things like this or stand to go bankrupt. Heck, they probably will anyways.. This is basically a plea to the wonderful PC gaming community that is more or less stealing a developer that made a quality game to death. Want to make bets on how well it works out for them?http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2008/11/acrying-shame-world-of-goo-piracy-rate-near-90.ars

Pirates: "Why spend 1 cent when i can download it for free, not even having to leave my comfy little Computer chair??"

Piracy rates may be high but to assume that every PC gamers a pirate is stupidity. Besides pirates are on consoles they're just not as tracked as PC pirate rates, so currently we never do not know how high console piracy rates are.
I went in for $2.00seabiscuit8686
I gave 'em 5. I usually pick up most DD games on sale for 5. Riddick, Civ4, SR2, Oddworld, Assasins Creed, Bioshock, all games I got legally for 5. Plus more if I racked my brains enough.
I bought it for $0.25 :)Stevo_the_gamer
Heres my 2 cents, i brought it for 2 cents!
EDIT: They seem like nice guys and i feel kinda sorry for them so i brought it again for a alot more
Bought it for $0.005
Thats just messed up.
shutdown_202
How is it possible to pay less than 1 cent? It really accepted 0.005?Or did you mistype.
What's so great about a developer resorting to selling a game for 1 cent? I remember the developers saying that world of goo was pirating like hell on the PC.Jamex1987
Wow..... think about what you just typed.
So if MS decided to give away copies of their next game, they get no praise, because we all could have just stole it anyway?

Whoops, should have said £0.05
UK here and you can only buy it from the US site. So after conversion, thats how much i think i paid. Althougth they probably took the full penny.
So instead, you're going to just about pirate it by spending a cent. Don't think the developers deserve a little more, huh?
I haven't ordered something for delivery in over a year because I hate tipping them >_>At least give them a dollar for the game. You give more to that as a tip to the pizza guy. This is a good game.

Do you guys HAVE to tip? i mean can't you just say "theres you mula, now beat it".
You should come live here, Tipping is about as common as [insert generic thing that rarely happens that i cant think of right now]

for delivery, yes i mean, it's not *illegal* not to tip... but it's wrong If you don't want to pay it, just make something at home or just drive to the store that you're ordering from. You could not tip but let one driver remember that you did not tip them and you will be the last person on their route then you might also get something extra with your food. I use to deliver pizza the ones that tipped got their food right away, the ones who did not waited an extra 20 mins as I got everyone else first.Do you guys HAVE to tip? i mean can't you just say "theres you mula, now beat it".

I would think a few bucks at least.http://2dboy.com/games.php

In reality piracy numbers don't matter much, what counts are legal sales. Piracy can have emotional impact on you as a developer, but in the end it all comes down to actual legal sales[QUOTE="DeadEndPanda"]
