Yes, the 360 is still in the lead. However, the worldwide numbers you linked to are out of date. And the other link you gave is just NPD (US) numbers for last month.
The reason why "cows" say that the PS3 was beating the 360 worldwide is quite simple. Over the last several financial quarters, the PS3 has posted higher worldwide sales numbers than the 360.

And no need to postulate what's been happening since the last quarterly reports, because the next numbers should be out around the end of the month.
So I should buy a 360 simply because its selling more? Thats not a good way to say the 360 is better. Remember, Wii is dominating the charts but it has a lot of issues. Its as bad as me saying Wii is the best console ever simply because its #1 on the charts.
Yeah when they say PS3 is beating the 360, they refer to current sales on a monthly basis. I have no doubt 360 will remain 1st for a long while with the year long head start it had.

Nah, TC quoted numbers from before last official tallies.
Those PS3 numbers are off. Their 1st quarter of 2010 ended June 31st and the numbers were updated to 38.1 million units. The 360 numbers are also off, considering Microsoft put them at 41.7 million. The seperation was 3.6 million units.
We won't know if the gap has increased or decreased until solid numbers are released again by manufacturers. Assumptions don't really help anybody.

sorry kotaku =/= worldwide and electronista =/= worldwide. i dont trust those sources. the move and psn plus helped the ps3 gain the lead over the 360 already imho
Its really, really nice to see a pure 360 vs PS3 debate on SW, over the past few months it had all been about PC boys butting in with their Crysis pics in every thread.
blah blah blah everybody knows its sells more because it has to be replaced more. rrod millions of 360's being banned before MW2 came out replacements because some 360's can't play reach so really sales don't matter
