When will they learn, video games aren't like movies, you can't pay 60 bucks, play 15 hours, and not be given a decent ending. Just doesn't work the same way. Its never satisfying and only makes you feel like you have to buy the sequel which is another 60 bucks.

Worst cliffhanger? I'll say Gears of War. "Hey lets throw in some cool monsters...you can't fight...some ladies voice..whome you don't see...and mention that theirs more...and then laugh at the players who are left with no clue" "brilliant."
Halo 2, KOTOR2 and Rainbow Six Vegas have very unsatisfactory endings.
On a side note, its okay to have a cliffhanger ending, Mass Effect and Episode 2 do it very well. They make you look forward to the sequel, but also give a sesne a closure.

The villian doesn't always have to die ya know. Thats not a cliffhanger. He was defeated and Nariko saved her people. Bam end of story. Leaving him alive is just for sequel convenience, thats all. The story itself was resolved.
Half life 2 I felt left a good cliff hanger. It left a very active stroy, true, but they kept the action climbing to a climax and then summed up the end. A bad cliff handger ending I feel is halo 2, which is like what half life 2 would have been had they cut out at the aprt where you reach the citidel and go in.
HL2's ending wasn't that bad but it made me wanting more, same with EP2's ending.
The worst ending to me would be Halo 2's ending. However, after watching the credits, it got really interesting. And how did I forget Assassins Creed? Terrible ending.
Half Life 2's wasn't as bad as you make it out to be. Not great, but not bad either, sort've average. :P
I can't think of a worst, but the best would be either FEAR's, or HL2 episode 2's. Both ended in a very atmospheric and chilling way.

F.E.A.R had a very nice ending. Mission accomplished and a clear hint for a sequel. Even though EP2 kinda had a cliffhanger where you wanted to see more like next week (kinda like with series, like Lost or Heroes) but you had to wait for years to get to know what happens next, the hype kinda dies out.
Yeh, I had the feeling, but I really thought the ending, despite being anti-climatic, was perfect. Not to mention the voice-actor for Alyx is "GODLIKE". :P The music in the background made it feel:

On the other end of the scale, Mass Effect's ending was cliffhanger-esque, in that not all of the story threads were neatly tied up, but I felt it was handled very well.

Agreed, Halo: CE also had a pretty good ending that made you ready for a sequel, but also wrapped up the game well.

Thats no where near as bad as Halo 2's. In Halo 2's final cut scene most people thought there would be atleast one more level left in the game, but then the credits start rolling.
