So, it is virtually a fact that the 1983 games crash was the worst event to happen in gaming history.

So besides that, what's the worst thing to happen in gaming history since gaming became popular worldwide again in 1987?

I'm not sure about my opinion right now, but I'll think about it.

I dunno, maybe the rise of microtransactions.

Maybe when the insanely draconian DRM methods were in pretty heavy use (we still get them, but they're not as bad as they were like in 2008, 2009, etc).

The advent of casual gaming. It's not been fully realised yet but if companies can get away with selling millions of shallow games to the gibbering masses less and less of them will spend any time on us who actually want deeper experiences.

The last two MS E3 events. Shockingly cringeworthy.

That is not an event, but a trend. An event would be like the video game crash in 1983 or the launch of the PS2.

motion controls and gimmicks

its alright when nintendo does it coz of the exclusivese like smash bros and zelda.

but the move and kinect were the worst thing that happend to gaming instead of sesame street kinect they could of released a great new ip worthy of being on par with uncharted.

Im glad sony stopped milking move or anything.

Sega leaving the hardware game.getyeryayasout

Their console hardware wasn't that great tbh. They did have awesome arcades tho. And I'll agree they were better on their own hardware.

No, because they are different markets. You have 'hardcore' ( ) and 'casual' audiences. As long as there's a decent amount of 'core players to buy 'core games, they won't cease to exist or come in smaller numbers. As a matter of fact, the amount of developed games -- be it by large companies or independent developers -- that aren't 'for the masses' raises yearly.

I wouldn't call you a tool for believing what Chemical_Viking, but you are wrong. All you need to do is compare the amount of amazing games we got in 2012 when compared to a decade ago. There were a few dozen AA+ titles.

1.Popularity of smartphones.

2.Wii-Aside from Nintendo making the worst console ever made, its success convinced Microsoft to completely abandon the core gamers, it also died within 3 years, forcing Nintendo (Along with Sony and MS) to start the next generation of consoles about 2 or 3 years sooner than they wanted. Its a lose, lose, lose.

3.DLC

lol no I would say you and viking are rather large morons. why you ask? Because if a person believes casual gaming hasn't been the norm since the beginning they've got to be stupid.

Whether or not I'm incorrect on this issue (and I'm not, if you haven't seen the current trend change recently then perhaps you should look into it) is besides the point, calling me a "tool" or a "moron" for making it is way out of line.
