My 2nd 360 is about to go, and it made me think about my reliability issues with MS. None of these systems were abused, or moved around after first set up, I always kept them in well ventilated areas and never had any heat related problems

1. Bought my 1st xbox online back in 2002. It was DOA on arrival, wouldn't read any discs. May have been shippers fault.

2. 2nd xbox worked fine for a month, then gave me disc read errors on loading a disc on start up. would open and close tray several times and the games would start, they generally ran with no issues after starting. Halo for some reason was the only game that would not cause this problem. After 1 year I traded it in for a PS2.

3. I purchase my first 360 at best buy with Product replacement plan. After3 months it makes loud clicking sounds while trying to read discs and some games have load/lock up porblems. I simply exchange for a new one after 5 months.

4. 2nd 360 has a problem with the controller that came with it. Left trigger gets stuck on even though the button is out and not pressed in. I replace controller and all seems well.

5. I buy MS racing wheel. I notice there is asmall centering issue, but it didn't seem to affect my driving, so I did not worry about it. Ihave great a time with PGR3 and Forza2 with it. after almost 4 months the wheel starts sticking real bad. Something is wrong with the gears inside. I can't get a replacement because the 90 days are up. The wheel onlyhad about 20 total hours of use between PGR3 and Forza2. I'm SOL on this one.

6. 2nd 360 is now making disc loading noises, different from the first, but I have to crank the speackers up to unpleasant levels to drown out the noises. I noticed that there seems to be some loading pauses in games I didn't notice before. Sitting 360 vertically seems to help a little, but it is just a matter of time.

The only Item I have purchased from MS that hasn't had a problem was the WIFI adapter. Iam seriously considering just going with thePS3 this time. I could just exchange the 360 for a new one at best buy, but I'm getting upset with all the problems I have had with MS, and not just consoles. If you were in my situation, would you switch?

Ironic, the only problem I've had with any Xbox products is the Wi-Fi adaptor.

My 360 was great for like ever. then it started acting up. i had mine since launch. i got the red lights. and i used the towel trick to bring it back. then i traded it in. to get the most money i could from gamestop. now im waiting until my gamestop gets Elites again. ill get it with an extended warranty. for the most part i think the newer consoles have the least amount of problems.

From what I have read, the elites have the same hardware in them as the premium, DVD drive, processor, GPU, nothing was redesigned specifically for the elite except bigger HDD and HDMI.

Ive seen enough PS3 demo's dead next to 360 demo's up and running to consider PS3 reliable. Yes they dont ventilate the demo's I know, But it's the same for the 360 as well. And damn the PS3 has JAGGIES. that just bothers me. I cant wait for them to figure out more efficient ways to do AA. The PS3 games will look much better after that.

WOW, my original Xbox is still working perfectly, I love that thing. And I had to send in my 360 once, no red lights either, which was weird. Screen turned green in all the shadowed areas in my game, and then I turned it off, and when I turned it back on, all I got static on the screen, tho I could hear the game startup and all the music and the menu. So I had to send it in, and the new one has a bit of a disc tray problem(gets stuck) but my friend has a launch that still works and his does that, so I'm actually not to worried about my new one. I'm thinkin about maybe tradin this one in later though, when they come out with the 65mn.

You are exactly right. I generally only buy 8 to 9 games a year and with Ninja Gaiden sigma coming out and at least one good game a month after that is why I am considering the PS3.

So sorry to hear about that TC that really sucks. I am borrowing my friends 360, we bought it together but he paid for most of it. I havent had any problems yet we did get the 3 red lights but it was only for a few sec.

But I know what you mean I bought a PSP I had it for a good few months then the ear jack broke and was crooked the audio didnt play, I sent it back to Sony with a fee for shipping and handleing. about 3 weeks later I get a brand new one from Sony a week later the same thing happens. Neither time did I drop it or something like that. Same thing send it back with a $30 shipping and handling. Got a new one. Lasted much longer but the strap broke while I was holding it It hit the ground and shatterewd the screen. I was so mad I just bought a iPod

I had a PS2 since launch and didnt have any problems with it. I think Sony makes awesome consoles I plan to get a PS3 soon. But Sony needs to leave the handheld market to the experts Nintendo. The Xbox though I am really impressed extremely impressed I am still getting a PS3 because most of my friends all have a 360 and/or Wii

Thanks for some of the feedback. For those that have never had a problem with there 360, I wonder how often it gets played? I averaged around 10-15 hours a week on mine. It really isn't just about the failing consoles anymore. It is everything that is having problems. It isn't just about money either. I could simply have it replaced again by best buy free of charge. After my warranty is up it will most likely break, I could simply purchase a core, which by then would probably be between $200-250. This would come out to the extra cost of the PS3 and a good HDMI cable. It's the feeling of being duped over and over again by these guys that is ticking me off.

How about you take care of you 360DuDisNow

I do take very good care of my stuff. I own 3 HDTVs, 3 DVD players, 1 expensive surround sound setup, 2 computers, one is a laptopjust to name a few items. None of these items have problems, and I have owned most of those items for years. Also my 360s are having problems just within a few months of purchase. It isn't likeI trashed it over 2 years and it died. I haven't owned them long enough to abuse them to failure.
