I would go with n64 controller looking back at now it’s so uncomfortable to use and the design of it looks like the ship from Star Trek I know it’s for a retro console but it makes me wonder how we able to manage using it back then

Joycons is just too small. Not ideal. I like the bigger grip for my switch. Don't care that it doesn't do rumble.
I disliked the wiimote too.
N64 was fin, but not really ergonomically comfortable.
Did anyone have the NES Max controller? I'll wait...
The classic controller, from the Wii. It was too small and it would stop working at times (but that's just my experience). It was a waste of money.
The playstation 3 controller! .............. and NO!...... NOT the boomarang type. lol. Only cause the sticks felt a little loose/drifty to my likes. If that makes sense.
Probably PS 1,2 and 3 controllers. Especially DS2, analogue buttons was a tragic idea. It's shocking that Sony kept the same shape for three generations. PS1 controller, for the time I'd say it was serviceable, didn't excel in any particular area, some how felt a bit more durable than the PS2 controller. Same shape, but my PS1 controller feels like a work horse, like it feels tough, my PS2 controller feels a little cheap.
DS4 was a MASSIVE improvement. That controllers amazing. Actually kind of prefer the shape to the DuelSense. The shape is amazing on the DS4, it's as comfortable on the d-pad as it is on the analogue stick, not so on the original PS controllers shape. Massive respect to Sony. From a company that struggled to improve the DS for three gens to suddenly come out with the DS4...
I’ll go with the original Switch controllers.
But I’m impressed with the switch pro controllers, nonetheless.
N64 was fine in its time, hard to go back to after playing with modern control designs.
great to know
Playing Perfect Dark with a mouse and keyboard right now and knowing GoldenEye has probably been "ported" too took away the appeal of this controller somewhat.
"This is the firing range, Jo."
I thought this was the future. Why are all the guns in this room of this special organization from the 20th century?
Actually, I DID play it on the N64. But not much.
The launch PS3 controller. It was the first time we saw a console move backwards with controller tech.
I hated that console all around. But the shitty controller really stood out
OG PlayStation I guess. I hate Sony's controllers, I find them very uncomfortable. And their first one is probably the worst.
Edit: Actually, it has to be the joycons. Them being small doesn't really bother me. It doesn't make them comfortable, but I have small hands, so it's mostly good. It's more that they break for no good reason that makes them the worst. OG PS controller sucked ass, but at least it didn't break from being used normally under a short period of time.
The Wii Remote and the Switch Joycons by themselves. In comparison, the Switch handheld is actually very comfortable, but I would never use the Joycons themselves.
I think the worst controllers I have ever used are:
The NES controller. Uncomfortable...seriously uncomfortable. The D-Pad was a big thing at the time I think. But not a great controller.
The Atari 2600 controller. That stick was awful. No tactile feedback. Constantly felt like it was going to break.
The N64 controller: A lot of very cool ideas but not very well implemented. The original Dualshock basically took the N64 controller concepts and did them better.
The PS3 Controller. A very aged design (basically the original dualshock). No rumble at launch (eventually fixed). But the worst offender was the triggers.....absolutely horrific. Spungey and shaped so that the finger would slip off them pretty easily.
Not a fan of the Wii mote in general especially with the nunchuck, but N64 probably takes the cake.
I like the Dual Shock 3 alot - might actually be my favorite. Have no issue with the shape. Prefer it to the DS4. R2 and L2 were big improvements over the PS2 - although not as good as what Xbox 360 had.

The Atari 5200, the Atari Jaguar, and the Dreamcast were the worst, IMO
@warm_gun: so I remember I think it was Turok introduced me to control scheme of using the C-buttons for forward backward and strafing (controlled by right hand) and using analog with left thumb for aiming. It totally upped my GoldenEye PvP game. It was that versus using left analog thumb for forward backward movement and left right turning, using C-buttons for strafing and aiming up down.
Only the white 8Bitdo 64 Bluetooth is available for order. Why couldn't they take the N64 button color pattern like Retro Fighters did? It looks so bland in one color. For uniformity with their other controllers, I guess. Lame. Retro Fighters doesn't advertise Hall Effect for theirs.
Joy Cons for sure as it's too small for my hands. I actually tried the Hori ones with the dpad and it was somewhat better though prefer the Switch Pro controller or 8 Bitdo controller.
I'm gonna go with the Wii U controller.
While there are other Nintendo controllers up for scrutiny, I would say the Wii U controller by far failed to realize and implement its own gimmicks in any meaningful way. It was utterly pointless and not even Nintendo was able to deliver a proof of concept for this controller.
The Wii controller was bad, but at the very least there were games that utilized and took advantage of its gimmicks and delivered on the concept of Wii motion controls.
