Poll Worth playing Deus Ex, 20 Years Later while we wait for Cyberpunk 2077? (21 votes)

Yes. 71%
No. 29%

While the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 which is almost exactly one month away, thoughts on playing Deus Ex? Heard an IGN commentator state that this game will be a lot like Deus Ex. Maybe in the way Deus Ex revolutionized Action RPG games. Having played a little bit of it I found it slow and the graphics were dated. Granted I only tried the first level and stopped. I know there are graphics mod that makes the game look better but in it's vanilla state it looked worse than the original Unreal despite it using the Unreal engine.

I know this game wasn't know for it's graphics but its gameplay, but is it worth playing the original Deus Ex, the last "revolutionary" Action/RPG game while we wait for Cyberpunk 2077?

Nice! Just what I was looking for. Looks like significant graphical overhaul with textures and what not but still tries to keep the same feel of the original.

Yeah absolutely.

The graphics are very dated now (it's a 20 year old game based on the first version of unreal engine in fairness).

The opening level on liberty island is probably the worst part of the game. it's a poor introduction. things pick up pretty quickly after that.

The only thing i would say is don't go in expecting it to be a high paced FPS. It's an RPG first and foremost. If your characters skills are not geared towards using guns then using guns will be a very frustrating experience. The aiming reticule will be all over the place when you move and such like.

Stop with the BS, its in first person and you shoot people, hence first person shooter, deal with it.

We've discussed this before, there is no such genre as immersive sim as every game aims to immerse its players into its world.

So forza is not racing game. its third person action game with cars because you hit other cars. lol logic.

Deus Ex is immersive sim first and foremost. confirmed by warren spector.

Yes. My favorite game of all time. I still play it at least twice each year. I actually stumbled across something new the other day. Yes, a 20 year old game I've played at least 40 times still offers a new experience.

With that said, if you have never played it, you might find the mechanics a bit dated. They're not, imo, just realize it's a first-person RPG with shooting elements, not a first-person shooter with RPG elements.

I say yes although it took me a second chance to enjoy it. It's one of those games where I felt choice was done pretty well.

For some decent cyberpunk themed games you can dabble in before CP2077, I'd recommend Observer (they now have System Redux on new consoles), and Ruiner. If you just want that action RPG, try Prey (2017) if you haven't already, while there's time.

While Deus Ex was fairly impressive in it's level of freedom at the time, it's extremely dated in it's presentation and gameplay. I would say use mods or don't bother.

Probably makes sense why I found the first part slow. And yes I think a lot of us who are FPS fans goes in with guns blazing thinking that it's a pure FPS game which it's not.

Yes, I have Ruiner in my lengthy backlog of games. Might give it a shot. Prey (2017) seems more like a straight up FPS shooter to me. Still need to go through the original Prey which I have the original box and copy of.
