Would it have made more developers get on board to make more games? would it have gotten more people to buy one? Would it have made people stop hating it? What difference do you think making PS3 $400 at launch would have done differently?
sony's gaming division would have lost a whole lot more money than the 2 billion...the only way they could've priced it that low is if they took out blu-ray.

At this rate, yes. But who's to say Sony won't stick to the $399 price? I think $299 would be a "perfect" price. but I don't know if we'll see another price drop so soon. Maybe by spring 09.. maybe? I could be wrong though. I was wrong about Sony dropping the $600 down before the end of the year. *shrug*
Only in the eyes of who has a 360 already...since the other systems has been out, the 360 is selling poorly. " Only in the eyes of who as a 360 only" I beg to differ I own the 360 and I think PS3 is a cool system it just needs some more titles the price is right at $499 now
Heck yeah! I know I probably would have bought one by now. The $400 version they're coming out with looks like a rip offso I'm hoping to get a used 60 gigger once more games are out for it.
Yes, it would have changed. I believe the biggest problem for the PS3 was the psychological impact of those $599. It's just way beyond the accepted notion of what a games console is worth. Heck, even $400 is pushing it. On another front, a $400 console would have given no reason to Mr Kutaragi to put his foot in his mouth as often as he did last year. That was a big part of the whole negative media reacion.
I think 1 year earlier and 400 would have putten the ps3 on top... not sure if I would buy though... there are just some games on 360 i wouldnt want to miss.. on top of that list are PDZ Halo3 NG2 Mass Effect Fable2.. but then again they might have been ported if 360 would be outsaled....
A $399 PS3 would have sold much better last Christmas and we wouldn't see such a big gap between PS3 and 360 sales. Independent devs would have been much more likely not to take some titles multiplat as well, had the PS3 sold better up to this point. Hopefully the rest of the game industry has learned a very important lesson here. The majority of consumers are cheap and won't pay more then a few hundred dollars for something that is basically viewed as a toy for grown ups.
400 dollars might be worth it, too bad they completely trashed BC thats a real killer for everyone and a reason as to why I won't buy one though I did plan on it when it was announced.
it is a huge difference. I laugh at a $600 console. It's just too much money. $400 is no joke. It's still expensive but now its a lot more attainable. There isgood chance I'll get one now. If it gets down to $300 (by then it should have lots of games) I will most likely buy it if I haven't already
I carry $600 with me daily so the price wasn't a factor for me but for others it was. $400 would have been nice but what would have been sacrificed? Wifi? Blu Ray? I'd rather spend the $600 and get the full package.
If it was in good supply yeah probably would've sold a lot more. Still needed more games to keep momentum going. Should've just launched PS3 this fall.....
