been a good move on Nintendos part? I heards som mixed reactions over this in the past and wanted to know what my fellow system warrior thought. Especially because everyone on here obviously has a freaking doctorates in economics;). I would say yes but I'm not sure how much ninty makes off of each pokemon game. they obviously have quite a bit of pull with game freak wouldn't it have been a huge system seller. Instead of the however many million users base the 3DS has right now it could easily be at least 50% to 75% more then that with the way pokemon sells systems

It would be a huge boost to the 3DS sales, however, the install base is limited in comparison. It could go a number of ways.

I would have preferred it for the 3DS.

If they did so, it would've been the lowest selling main Pokemon game.

Nintendo games have long legs. So it would sell for a long time atleast until the next generation of Pokemon is out.

That is true, but games usually sell a good chunk of their copies in the first month. Long legs wouldn't change this.

Wouldn't do anything really. The game is going to sell a ton of 3DS systems despite being a DS game since the DS is being phased out.

I think it's good that they released it on the DS, make as much money as you can from it before it dies. Plus chances are this is being made by their remake team while the main one works at getting their engine ready for the 3DS.

Would have been impossible for a 2012 release. This game was developed this quickly because they used existing engine/assets. Think about it, it takes places in an expanded version of Unova and all the Pokemon are the same save for a few new forms.

Champ24 and SuperFlake, have a point, that and selling a great amount of units at a loss is a bad idea.

I don't know. If I had a DS (which everyone and their dog owns) and wasn't really interested in a 3DS, I would not buy a 3DS for BW2. Only hardcore Pokefans would buy it for the AR searcher, but hardcore Pokefans are the type that would already own a 3DS anyway.

N o it wouldn't, if it was on the 3DS in its current form it would kill what little credibility the 3DS. It's like putting Final Fantasy 7 in a retail case on the Vita, it would lower interest, make the system look like crap, no one would buy it on a next gen system as much as if it were on the DS. That said, it won;t sell well on the DS anyway.

Given the releases of HG/SS and B/W and the lack of some features from the former not making it into the latter (Pokes walking behind you, berry pots) they were probably in development at the same time, so B/W had to be done by their lead team.

Still, I feel like I would've liked Black and White if they came out on the 3DS better. Would have been more time to develop the game, make a better 3D engine and incorporate all the new features from the remakes.

It would've probably sold millions of 3DS systems most likely. However, the game was probably far into development already for the DS. In general though, whenever Nintendo release the next generation of Pokemon on the 3DS, it will still sale like the Pokemon series always has.

Nope. For easy continuity's sake, they didn't.

But GameFreak's already got their feet wet with PokeDex 3D and especially the great looking Pokemon Dream Catcher.

B&W 2 will sell millions in Japan alone, and that's not even counting other regions. What will help these two games is the fact that they aren't a special third version of existing games, but an original game with a new story, new gym leaders, and changes to the region of B&W1.

They may not reach the sales of B&W1, but they will do very well.

I'm going to bet this game will sell 5 million or more units. If Pokemon Platinum could sell 7 million and it was a special edition of Diamond and Pearl, there's an excellent chance B&W 2 will sell millions easily, give the fact that they are brand-new games.

I just hope that this means that when they do put out one for the 3DS, it will have been overhauled graphically. The Pokedex better be a sign of things to come...

There's not even a reson to buy B/W to, it won't sell well, the DS support base has dropped very fast, they can't gain more potential fans buy keeping it on a system dying this bad, and if they do this it will make the PKMN transition to the 3DS worse than Nintendo is imagining (Which is why B/W 2 is not a 3ds.)

 at those saying it won't sell well on the DS. It's f*cking pokemon. It'll sell like crack just as the sky is blue. Even the lowest selling games(ruby and sapphire) in the series still pulled in buttloads of sales

Not in NA, and if it was like that with previous and current PKMN games Pokemon would have only sold about 40 mill this gen at the same ratio. Also slapping Pokemon has proven many times not to sell a lot. many times.

Not sure if serious or just trolling. Even if people don't play their DSes anymore, they'll just buy the game as 3DS owners. This is like saying Final Fantasy 9 for the PS1 will sell terrible even though it came out after the PS2, which clearly didn't happen.

Keep in mind, all those Pokemon games that failed to sell were spinoff games. All of the main series games have been highly successful and are proven sellers.

And NA is one of Pokemon's best markets aside from Japan. Pokemon Platinum managed to sell 7 million copies and it was a special edition for Diamond and Pearl. Black & White 2 are direct sequels that have a new storyline, new main character, new gym leaders, and changes to the Uvona Region. This is not a special edition of Black & White. These are outright sequels.

These two will sell, and they offer a killer app fairly late into the DS's lifespan. And 3DS owners who are fans of Pokemon will also buy the game. I'm preditcing five million copies sold worldwide and that's a low number. I really believe it will be higher in the end.
