if you take into account the number of people that have the systems to make use of those? No, it won't.
Gamers don't give a damn about sound. Almost none of them have speaker systems, which is why Sony didn't bother including Atmos.
Dolby Vision and HDR10 look very similar, according to Blu-ray.com members who I trust more about home theater stuff than users here.
It's the new Dan Schneider fetish... Instead of feet, it's the ears.
I don't give a flying poo about these things. Might it lose some sales? I suppose... but I doubt almost any people choose their console on these terms. At most it might be one of a number of reasons that add up to someone's ultimate choice against ps5.

Then why did Sony go all out on their own version if sound isn't important.
Gaming and film/series watching on my Dolby Vision TV and Dolby Atmos surround is pretty awesome.

Dolby Vision, HDR10, very similar.

It's not important enough to them or their customers for speaker systems. That they designed their sound for freaking controller connected 3.5 mm jack headphones says it all.
As long as xsx has Atmos, I really couldn't care less what ps5 is using.....just a bit bizarre that Sony TVs that have Dolby Vision aren't supported by Sony's ps5.

They invested in developing their own 3d audio system instead of utilizing one that already existed.
They even made a big thing about it at their first launch event.
Gamers that dont value good audio are simply not serious gamers.

Probably to save them royalties, same reason as well all digital xbox and PS5 exist, they save the blu-ray royalties on those units, and have wider margin on winning as well on digital games.
The PS5 will be fine if there is something sony knows is sound, sony was working on sound equipment before MS was even incorporated.
How else will Cerny get his collection of ear photos?
Sony has a long history in audio, even if they don't release the absolute best they are trustworthy and o release quality.
@ezekiel43: I care very much about sound 😡
Most gamers don't. Most use TV speakers, soundbars or cheap headphones. So I can't blame Sony for not including Atmos.

and yet a major amount of audio product sold by them are crap. .

So it is important but they want to save royalties?
make your minds up
Removing something to save on royalties and investing in an alternative are 2 totally different things.
Dolby are the industry leading company in audio, whatever the reason to not support it isn't a smart move.
Even Sony TV's support Dolby Atmos.
Even Sony TV's support Dolby Atmos.
Meaningless. The PS5 will do Atmos in the same way Sony televisions do Atmos, by sending the signal to the audio device that actually decodes Atmos with a feature called bitstreaming. Even the PS4 can play Atmos soundtracks through bitstreaming. Just watch the A Quiet Place Blu-ray and see. I don't think there actually are any 4K players that have Atmos built in. They all let the audio device do the decoding.

That doesn't help when a game is outputting Sony 3D audio and the Sony TV cant understand it.
Its primarily a gaming machine not a blu-ray player.
Dolby Vision will have to wait and see next year. Tempest seems like it's the same thing as Atmos. Not sure how Tempest works, if you'll need the Sony Specific headset.....? I know for Atmos on Xbox One X i have a cheap headset and got the Dolby atmos app for 20 bucks and it makes a huge difference, beats having to spend money on an expensive headset. Def sucked Ps4 didnt support it, trying to play modern warfare and spatial sound cues are horrendous. Hopefully Tempest will do the same thing for enabling software base solution for budget headsets like Atmos App.

Dolby Atmos for headphones
My Turtle Beach head set take advantage of it
Dolby Vision on the other hand I do not .. but that like 120HZ at 4K over HDMI 2.1 most TV's dont have it yet. I give it 2 years before we see Dolby Vision and HDMI 2.1 on many TVs at a reasonable price
@lundy86_4: Pretty much every TV manufacturer except Samsung offers Dolby Vision. One of the biggest downsides of owning a Samsung TV.
As a videophile I am really hoping Sony's 4K blu-ray player includes Dolby Vision support for its movies.
Can anyone confirm or deny this? I have heard no mention of this.
Hell I don't know... what I do know is that HDR10 looks amazing on my 4k120hz TV that is ready for HDMI 2.1 and I don't really give a shit since I have a good sound system and will have a great headset on the way shortly after launch. I seriously doubt the quality will be all that drastic.
Tempest seems like it's the same thing as Atmos.
It's not. Maybe the same as Atmos for headphones. Seems like Tempest is just stereo, left and right sound. I think the most Atmos for the home can use in terms of separate channels is nine speakers, plus the sub woofers, which makes the sound placement more accurate. I've tried playing binaural recording demos with my Atmos system, and it just isn't impressive. Sounds like one set of sounds across the whole side of the speaker system. So I don't expect Tempest's sound to be good if you're not using headphones. Which I find lame, because I don't like wearing headphones all the time. I don't think Sony has ever talked about how speaker systems will work with Tempest. It's always been headphones, headphones, headphones.
Feels to me that the PS5 doesn't support shit tbh. Where is the 1440p support? Its not difficult to do so, but they ain't doing it. Where is the freesync support, a must for 120fps games? We ain't getting it either. Very messy console.
