Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo made an announcement or revealing of their next - next gen console ? Nothing too big, but just something to tie us over for the next couple years till their releases. Maybe a speech from a representative or a small video clip regarding one of the consoles.

Whether you guys think it's likely to happen or not, I'd be surprised if it didn'thappen this year or the next. Thoughts ?

Not if Nintendo or MS did it, Sony would baffle me a bit if they did...

I doubt it tho, maybe they will let people know that the new consoles are on the drawingboard or something like that...

Nintendo being the most likely in my mind...

Nintendo is the most likely candidate.

would be baffled if Sony did it, seeing how just NOW Sony is gaining momentum.

Microsoft, i imagine it's just a rebranding for integration with Natal. probably an actual name as well.

Sony & Nintendo - Yes
MS - Not really

360s approaching 5 years old. Im sure MS must have some concrete ideas of what they want next gen by now. Launch at 2011.

Although i have a feeling their next system will be a slightly beefed up 360 with Natal from day 1.

New MS console would be bad for Natal for 360, this also goes with PS3 Wand, only Nintendo is truly free to make new console and practicly they need to do it, Wii can hold much longer just with motion sensing.

It wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing if MS announced a new console for say two years down the road (meaning 360 games will still have meaning but you now have something with which to look forward), especially if this new console will have Natal functionality built into it (a sign the Natal is being taken seriously and therefore wouldn't be a bad thing to have--a new Xbox with internalized Natal will likely be BC with the Natal games of the current gen).

I love how people criticize MS and say Sony systems last ten years...PSX, 1994; PS2, 2000; PS3 2006 (though they wanted 2005 but could not get the components for the blu-ray drives and do R&D in time. Anyone see a trend here? The reason MS abandoned the original Xbox was because they could not make any money with it...they did not own all the internal components (the Nvidia GPU if I remember correctly) was costing them too much money so they had to scrap the original and get the 360 out as soon as possible. I am willing to give MS the chance with their next box and see what happens.

Unaware gamers have too easy way of thinking, theres high risk assign Natal to new console insted of 360 and hype of new console would mute down hype for Natal. So i say E3 on MS side will be dominated by Natal, if they annoucment new console it would be totally unexpected move from MS looking how they deal marketing now.

I'm hoping they will. Spice up E3 alot more.

I just hope MS goes all out this time and doesn't hold back on the hardware. Since this could be it for console hard ware for more then 10 years.

For Sony, yes. The PS3 just got back into the gaming scene and I would think it would be a bad decision to announce the PS4 after the PS3's sucess in the past year.

For Nintendo, I would be partialy suprised, but I would see it coming.

For Mircrosoft, no, since I do remember Mircosoft saying that they were already working towards new system.

I could see Nintendo putting out a new handheld next year. Sony, maybe, but they have too much stuff planned for later this year with PS3. MS, definately not, it sounds like Natal will be their crutch this year and the next.

Yeah. Neither Microsoft nor Sony can be showing new consoles when they have important new hardware coming out already. E3 2011 is way more likely.

I think they would only do that if they thought 360 hardware sales were on the decline.

I think MS will, after the whole Natal debacle they need something big to fall back on, my guess is that they will announce a new platform, no release dates or anything, just some specs and tech demos Natal will fall through the cracks and just become Eye Toy for the 360, and a slew of new game announcements for 360 with halo Reach being at the forefront. For the others I am too lazy to speculate.

Yes. That would be stupid for Microsoft and Sony because they keep hyping up Natal and The Wand.

The Playstation 1 came out in 1994. The Playstation 2 came out in 2000, and the Playstation 3 came out in 2006. Unless my math is off that isn't 10 years. Now for support yeah it is around ten years but it seems around 6 years they'll have a new Playstation.

Nintendo releasing a new system would not be too surprising, considering they release a new version of the DS practically every year. Sony, I doubt it, but judging by how much the PS3 is already juggling by way of hardware and the like it would not surprise me if they came out with something, perhaps a PSP GO replacement since the online-only system is going to be a total flop. M$ will probably at least issue a due date for NATAL, and perhaps even release a portable system, since they were talking about how effective the streaming of the PSP and PS3 was. however, due to the fact that M$ cannot keep a secret, we would probably already know about such a device, so perhaps not. but I personally think 2010 will be a year for handhelds when they are not needed.

microsoft, sony, and nintendo would be crazy to announce new consoles at this point. microsoft and sony still have alot of time to max out the 360/ps3 potential and the Wii is selling to well for nintendo to even THINK about making a new console announcement

Nintendo has already stated many times that they are not going to be a contender for the graphics title, they just want to make high-quality games that appeal to a wide range of audiences. the chances of Nintendo releasing a powerful system are extremely small. I men, think about it: N64 was the last system to use cartridges, GC didn't use full sized disks, it used those stupid mini-DVDs, and the Wii has no real hard drive, just a built-in memory card. Nintendo has never been about the best technology, just about making fun games. but yeah, that would be pretty funny, if for the past 20 years Nintendo has just been stringing us along ;)

I don't think it would be a bad idea at all for MS to announce a new console soon after Natal is released (about half a year after.)

Didn't they say that they want the 360 to last 10 years? This could be their way of allowing the 360 to have some of the capabilities that the NextBox will have, assuming that Natal is built in to it. New 360 games after the launch of the next system will just have some motion control with them, that is what I think they mean by "extending the 360's lifespan".

Official announcement in Spring 2011 and a Fall 2011 release is what I think will happen. Maybe a screen shot or something will be [leaked] a couple of months after this years e3.
