Poll Would you buy a 2D Metroid for Wii U in 2016? (53 votes)

Yes 77%
No 11%
Metroid Prime 8%
Meroid Prime VR 4%

Why I Think Nintendo Will Announce a New 2D Metroid at e3, Death to VR and Metroid Prime!

No Caption Provided

Everyone knows 2D Metroid is greater then 3D. If you dont know 2D Metroid, it changed the way we play video games. Back before she blessed us with her grace, one explored the terrain by going to the right and completing the area never to return. That was until Metroid granted us with the freedom to venture left and backtrack for secrets. It was a ground breaking experience that could only be felt through touch.

Over in Japan 2D Metroid is more popular then 3D. Can you blame them, i mean in one corner you got Metroid, Metroid II, and Super Metroid and in the other you got Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2, and Metroid Prime 3. Of course 2D has Other M, but Prime has Federation Force, so who cares. Some experts say the reason for this is first person games give many Japanese motion sickness. Which brings us to our last point.

I was wondering, Metroid Prime would be a great Wii U Gamepad game. Could use the Gamepad gyro camera to explore the environments. Would give you a VR feel also. But then i remembered, Japan doest care for first person stuff, so VR or any other first person focused stuff would not likely be well received. Thats when it hit me, Nintendo might do a 2D Metroid game for Wii U as a surprise.

Its a safe bet. Everyone loves 2D Metroid!

You ask about 2D Metroid and post a pic of Other M.

Okay.

@Blabadon: I think its a good mix of the two. Star Fox Zero was a nice warm-up, now lets get to the goods.

@NathanDrakeSwag: You actually think Nintendo will not announce something for Wii U to fill the holidays with cheer and their pockets with riches? The first thing Nintendo fans will want to do to deal with their grief would be to buy a game to fill the void.

Wii U is dead, let it go already. Any Metroid that might be in development will be saved for the NX. Releasing it on the Wii U would be a waste.

There won't be any big Nintendo games released for the rest of the year and after Zelda is released Nintendo will drop the Wii U like a bad habit. I mean christ they only plan to ship 800,000 more units by the end of fiscal year. That should tell you a lot.

New levels of delusion: Nintendo have already explicitly admitted they won't have anything but Zelda at E3. mesome continues to believe they will announce a new game, and a Metroid at that. Why? Because he knows better than Nintendo, clearly.

Nintendo stated Zelda would be the only playable demo, Nintendo never stated it would be the only game or that no game would be announced. Nintendo has to sell something for the holidays, they arent going to walk away from all that money.

Also, its the only game that makes sense with how good Wii U is doing in Japan. Plus its the anniversary of Metroid. Not only that, but Metroid Other M was best selling Metroid in Japan history. We know for sure we wont get another Metroid Prime cause its producer is currently working on Metroid Prime Federation Force and has stated hes far from completed with it and only has the ideal of it ready.

Sakamoto on the other hand is free. Hes completed Tomodachi Life and Miitomo. Hes been completely free for a while. And that dude is always cooking something. Its either that of hes working on Balloon Kid, that game would be perfect for Gamepad too.

2D was nice 20 years ago but there's only so much that can be done with it. I would much rather see a third person shooter, over the shoulder style Metroid with a greater focus on environmental exploration over anything else in a beautiful 3d world.

Think dead space with more open areas. That would be dope.

@jcrame10: Its got plenty of third person, most of the game is like that. Its also an awesome game gameplay wise, majority love it to death. Many say it has weak story and cutscenes though.

Oh helllllll yes I would. I can't stand the fact that they are making that abomination Federation Force on the 3DS. I feel like that's the product of Nintendo trying to "fit in" with the crowd, as people cry over the years, at the expense of making a "Metroid" game that is not a Metroid game at all. /Sad day

@jcrame10: Its a 2D third person with 3D elements featuring the ability to turn 3D first person. Im guessing Kirby Triple Deluxe is no longer 2D either, its a 2D/3D hybrid.

Nah. 2D metroid is even more confusing than 3D metroid. I'm enjoying Prime but still struggling with the back tracking and never knowing what to do next. (Yes I know the game will eventually point you in the right direction but why the hell does it need to do that? Just make the next step a little more obvious.)

@Bread_or_Decide: Im currently playing the original Metroid on Wii U and you just have to go by trial and error when exploring. Old school all the way. The game is difficult but strangely addicting. Ive been playing the game for hours and im still at the very beginning of it.

Only now all gamers are doing the exact same thing Metroid Prime did, except with no complaints, in another series called "Dark Souls". Dark Souls does not even have the decency to point you in the right direction when it realizes you're completely lost.

I dunno, I rarely look at my Wii U anymore, Nintendo made sure of that. Probably not, they'll probably make a game worth no more than $20 as a downloadable game but demand $60 for it instead just because they put it on disc.

I know I know. I'm trying to ignore the impulse to quit and move on to another game. When I'm on a known and certain path the game is excellent. There's an addictive quality to finding upgrades and opening new areas.

I remember forever being lost in Metroid in the NES days. I never got anywhere, barely found anything, and never beat the game. I heard the original is the most difficult. You are a brave one to take it on.

To be fair prime does have a "Hmmm maybe go here" feature that hardcore fans can turn off.

I don't mean to sound like I need my hand held. I don't. But one frustrating thing I've discovered is I'll get a new upgrade, go all around the map looking for new areas to unlock, and then it'll say HEY MAYBE GO HERE...and HERE happens to be all the way across the map. Thanks a lot. How about fast travel?

I really don't want to complain. I'll take this over press F to show your respects any day. I'll press forward. This is my first crack at a Metroid title.

Ori and the Blind Forest's presentation and gameplay+Metroid=major win.

That's the only type of 2D Metroid I'd be interested in, but Nintendo's not a good enough developer to accomplish something like Moon Studios did with Ori.

Bioshock had a big giant arrow. I wouldn't be against something like that. And they also gave you the option to turn it off. Bioshock Infinite had the little arrow you could make appear when you press a button. (Which is turned off in 1999 Mode. And I did beat the game in that mode.)

I think if maybe we had a form of backtracking were you dont have to backtrack if you want to to progress through the game. With random generated tech now, im sure they could reward exploration and stay true to the formula without focusing so much on backtracking. Itd make it easier to put down and pick up later to play also.

It's just one of the trademarks of "Metroidvania" style games. You can't classify a game into this kind of genre if it was just a linear practice from one corridor to the next. Metroidvania is a game that is just as easy to get lost as it is also rewarding for doing such.

Absolutely. Although outside of Super Metroid, none of the other 2d metroids hold a candle to the first 2 prime games.

I'm a gamer and I still play 2D games so yeah, a Metroid 2D game is A-OK with me. And make it like Super Metriod SNES style at least.

It absolutely will not happen on WiiU, and probably never. If it did, they'd charge 50 to 60 euro for it, rather than the 15 to 20 everyone else charges for 2D games, even glorious ones like FTL, Rogue Legacy, Hotline Miami, Ori, etc.

It could be great I guess but it'd be another overpriced, low ambition game.

I'd get much more excited for a proper 3D next gen Metroid.

It will literally never happen, why waste resources on a dead console? Even if it did exist I'd rather it get pushed back as a day one digital only NX title or something that's cheaper than usual, Captain Toad-style.

Why is a 2D game being sold for 50 or 60 euro or dollars a bad thing? A game like DKC: Tropical Freeze is easily worth that asking price and is one of the single player games I've spent the most time on.
