No, it's for people who are already interested in the PS3, but needs that one big reason to push them over the edge.
But honestly, look into the other PS3 games...it has a ton of amazing ones already out and coming out this year. I can't believe you're only interested in MSG4 and not in Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance (1&2), Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Motorstorm, COD4, Assassin's Creed, GTAIV, Haze, LBP, Home, DMC4, Burnout, Gran Turismo 5, FFXIII & FFXIII Versus, on and on...

I must be a bigger fan than you.
I bought a PSOne for MGS.
I bought a PS2 for MGS2.
and
I bought a PS3 for MGS4.
My name is SOLIDTY, so yeah, I would.
I think after this year we will truely see. With the exception of FF13, GT5, and maybe a new Kingdom Hearts, PS3 is pulling out all the stops this yearInfinityTomorro
Honestly what other "stops" does it have?
If you already own a 360 or PC, the big reasons to get a PS3 is MGS4 and ... uhh... there's no other game of that prestige coming this year. Resistance 2 - maybe Killzone 2 (we haven't heard anything in some time...) but seriously - the games that were there in 2005 that we wanted... still not here.
-
I can't see a lot of reason to pick one up until 2009, when HOME, LBP, and the FF XIII / KH3 / KZ2 et cetera are in full force. Even at that point, I have to honestly ask, are some of those games even relevant anymore? At this point, it would take a great showing of FF XIII / Versus, the promise of FF7 remake, Disgaea 3 - I mean, I want the -games- not the potential.
that said, when PS3 gets going, I don't have a problem picking one up - just not going to do it because it gets one of the fifty checkboxes it needs to tick off - show me the other 49 sitting, checked off - game in store, feature online and usable, and then it becomes noteworthy.
To call Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty (MGS2) a highly anticipated game would be the understatement of understatements. To date, our original preview of the game is one of the most popular features on our entire site. A day hardly goes by that we don't get a question about the game, its availability or whether it will be released on the PC or PlayStation at a later date [for the record MGS2 will be PlayStation 2 (PS2) exclusive and will likely remain so until Konami confirms that a version is in the works for Microsoft's Xbox and/or Nintendo GameCube]. Not ones to pass up on a golden opportunity though, we have compiled newly released screenshots of MGS2 and thrown together an update to our last preview. It's not lost on us that the entire gaming industry has been deluged with screens of Konami's potential masterpiece, but new information has emerged since the last time we covered Konami's uber-release.
For one thing, the state of the PS2 has taken a turn for the worse. Sony's next-generation machine was preordained to herald in a new gaming age once it hit store shelves. As many of us have already learned, that has not been the case. The first wave of software has been anything but innovative. You'd be accurate in calling these releases 128-Bit graphical updates to 32-Bit games and genres. This has brought a great deal of criticism against Sony and its new machine for not living up to its own grandiose promises. In short, the console lacks a killer app to justify its existence—a bill that MGS2 clearly fills.
This, in turn, raises the stakes for all parties involved. Onlookers hoping for hints of what the PS2 could really do are looking to Kojima and his development team. Ironically, Hideo Kojima himself has been increasingly critical when asked his opinion of the PS2's development environment. This could explain why Konami has yet to present a firm Japanese release date and the US and European release (which will be simultaneous in both territories) has been up in the air. That aside, what Kojima has managed to get out of this machine until now is truly inspiring. Even a passing glance at the next-generation Metal Gear will reveil something previously unseen in games. It's hard to argue that whenever it is released, MGS2 could be the game to not only save the PS2, but perhaps even usher in a videogame renaissance.
That was written on Dec 18, 2000. See how little we know? What we can "prove" is no better than speculation at this point, but I digress. If you want to get into a philosophical debate with me, you'll lose, if your only point is I can't "prove" my speculation, then I conceed. Shall we continue the posts without the "ooooo no he didn'd'!" thank you very much.
Ask someone, I'm not your usual poster, and I don't say things without good reason to believe they are true. Doesn't make all my predictions accurate, but it does mean you can't own me with the usual arguments. I'm done with the general "360 port of MGS" argument. I will say this, however, don't go out on any limbs or make any bets that it'll stay PS3 exclusive. I've heard tons of idiots say "It'll NEVER be on 360." Never say never, when Konami has a history of porting the series to MS consoles.
I wouldn't buy a ps3 for just MGS4. I have a ps3 and I doubt I even get that game, the other ones were lame so I am guessing the upcoming one will be as well. I am not entirely sold on the ps3 yet, its good, but I still play my 360 waaaaay more. The ps3 is better than the wii though, my wii just collects massive dust. There are two games that stick out on the ps3, and they are heavenly sword, and uncharted. Uncharted is a really good all around game. Heavenly Sword is one of the best games I have played in the last year. I passed on the game for a long time, but its actually very very good and i would recommend it to anyone. It does suck that its insanely short though. Anyways, I would tell someone to get a ps3 if they were interested in MGS and at least two other games that are exclusive to the console. My picks are HS and Uncharted.tylerdurden2621
Blasphemy, imo.
**** no!
I'm not ever going to buy MGS. Most boring game I've ever played.

We'll see about that when it comes out and it gets AAAE

Hell no! Only Sony sheeple hype up just a handful of games and make the console worth owning. Everyone knows that if you want a large selection of quality games, and a great online service, 360 is the way to go. 360 has games to counter any of the "big" titles on PS3

I love how that was completely relevant to the topic. Seriously, this thread has nothing to do with 360 vs. PS3 but somehow someone always turn it end to some stupid battle.
I've never been a fan of MGS so no, this wouldn't be the game to push me to buy a PS3.
I was a 360 owner for several months. I sold it and went for PS3 and MGS4 is one of the main reasons. Little Big Planet, Uncharted and MLB The Show added sugar as well.Gimax1
I am really looking forward to that title. Last year was meh, but I think this year it will be better. I hope!
The reason I got a PS3 was for GTA4, yeah I guess I could have chose that "other console", but thats a different topic.
MGS4 will definitely move a lot of PS3's, but personally I have never been a fan of the series and am freaked out by the homoertic themes and ambigous title names(solid snake, snake eater, etc.). I wont be buying the game.
I brought my PS3 for MGS4, LittleBigPlanet, Haze, Final Fantasy XIII and FFXIII Versus.i mean alot of ppl here lookin forward for MGS4 and do not own a ps3 yet.(like me)

My second console would be a 360 because of Mass Effect and Ninja Gaiden 2.

all those games are looking great, but MGS4 is the game that is a must have. I can live my life fine without playing Haze, GT5, Heavenly Sword, etc. MGS4 is the one I'd like to see live up to the hype. Hell, if it doesn't live up to the hype wouldn't be surprized.
After seeing how Fable 2 shapes up to be on 360, i would not buy a PS3 for ANY one game only, nothing seems anywhere close to Fable 2 to me, so PS3 has to have at least 10-15 AAA stunning games to have any chance to compare to a 360+Fable 2saolin323
Didn't they say fable 2 is only 12 hours long?
It's crazy to see people say the PS3 doesn't have any games for their interest except for MGS4. Let these people be the same ones to tell you they know quality gaming...
