even if the Xbox brand were discontinued it would not bring more focus on the PC. Microsoft has never been really famous for it's PC games, sure they had the Age of empires and the flight simulator of series, but those were mostly drops in an ocean imo. and Third party developers would still make PC/PS3 games like they do now

No. The 360, with it's library and Kinect are great competition for the other systems.

I don't think all Xbox gamers care about PC gaming, so it would probably not be in their best interest.

No. MS can easily afford both. Besides, keeping the XBox platform around will keep Sony on its toes.

Not competition like Microsoft promotes, we have the operating system market to see how that worked. I'm all for healthy competition not Microsoft-style competition.

LOL no. I don't hanker to go back to PC gaming I did it at one time and while I have fond memories after about a year and finding I couldn't play even the majority of the recent games I gave up. *this was a long time when the state of computing was in even more flux then now*

You could argue thatif it wasn't for the Blu-Ray player on the PS3 it would be dead by nowand we would have more japanese games on the 360. I don't think it would matter much because we get to have plenty of dual developed games on the 360 that are PC ports the PS3 doesn't get. Without an American made console I would have to buy a new top of the line PC to play games every two years. It's been a while now that Japanese games have significantly dropped in quality and fun factor for me. I honestly think it's because of how viable the 360 is in the market that we are seeing so many great western made games come to consoles. Like the last two 360 games I've played = Reach and Red Dead Redemption. Without the 360 these games wouldn't exist. We need to have an American made console that makes games for the american market. Nintendo could care less about giving us the games we want ... how many mature titles have they made in the last decade? Sony isn't as bad as Nintendo,k but they care about the Japanese market first, then if they have games on their system that appeal to the american market ho hum that's nice as an afterthought. I prefer console gamming to PC and having the 360 makesowning a gamming PCunnecesasary. You can not say the same about the PS3 or Wii.The 360 needs to stay exactly where it is.

And you think MS are so stupid they would actually do that?

There's no way they can sell franchises like Halo on the PC as good as on the Xbox.

Yes. The Xbox 360 is like a platform that takes IPs away from me and puts it under lock and key. It's not a free platform, which means publishers lose money per game sold paying royalties to Microsoft, the digital distribution system is not nearly as robust and still requires large royalties to Microsoft to distribute anything meaningful. One thing I will say about it is that it is a cheap platform and provides a fairly easy method of entry into a core gaming bracket. I don't like closed platforms or closed networks and the Xbox is both, so I don't want to buy it. There's no real reason for me to buy it aside from all the IPs migrating over to it, which makes it an unnecessary bar on what I can play.

I'd like to see discontinuation of all consoles, or more like a change in the current model to something more open like a PC. I'm not really sure how to word it, but if PC's just became very user friendly and without the horrible control a single company would have over the console.

There is a lot of behind-the-scenes support for gaming from Microsoft...think for a moment about the complexity of the Direct-X APIs...not to mention its seamless tie-in with the Windows OS, and the thousands upon thousands of entries Direct-X has in the Windows Registry.

Also Microsoft does WHQL certification for PC graphics drivers.

I'd rather see parity between 360 and PC support. Every MS game that is coming to 360 also should come to PC. They should be treated as one, not as it is now.

yes, because this would bring us back to the pre 2002 days before microsoft killed off all their old franchises and gaming studios, man those days were great, like 75% of my games back in those days were published by M$, like mechwarrior, midtown/motocross/monstertruck madness to name a few.

games like midtown madness 3 and mechassualt confirmed to me that they didnt care about PC anymore...

And back then Activision, and EA were good pubishers not stuck up and trying to swallow up all little devs, and milk things to death. I think this current generation of consoles have seen the worse trend of gaming quality. DLC's, unfinished games(bugs, needs multiple patches) MS producing a poor quality console that had costed them more then they have made. and milking franchises gone rampant. When publishers and devs were small gamers got the best of both worlds today its all corporations thrist for money thats causing the problems.
