When it comes to Video Games, one of the so called standards for many people is VA, funny thing in most games VA is simply awful and out of place, however there is a franchise that a lot of people would love to see with VA, The Legend of Zelda but if there is a franchise who i think would be really hard to put VA is this one, however, i'm not saying it shouldn't have.

First of all, Nintendo has a bad reputation with VA (Other M), also, many people have suggested that Link should remain silent...but NPCs don't play a huge roll in the games aside from Zelda...which in my opinion, should remain silent too, also Link's Sideckics should remain silent too, let's not forget Midna and even Fi, even if she is not that great of a character her "Voice" effect sounds right, so in other words, Zelda would only have VA when you talk to NPCs, now, would it be worth to have VA only with the guy that sells you the Shields? with that Fortune Teller lady? with that Guard in the Castle?

Now, why do i think that Princess Zelda should remain silent too? i don't know why but i feel it wouldn't sound right, after so many years, Zelda is also one of those characters that you learn to appreciate the way they are, Nintendo needs to find the perfect voice for such an important character...but let's face it, Nintendo would probably fail and i have to admit, i prefer no VA at all than a really bad one.

With that being said, i'm not saying it shouldn't have...i think there is room for VA in a Zelda game, i mean usually there are other important NPCs in the game, in WindWaker we had Link's Granma and Sister, in TP we had Link's friends and in SS we have the people in Skyloft.

The Villains, that's another tricky one, what kind of voice would you give to Ganondorf? well if Nintendo can't get James Earl Jones, Christopher Lee or Sean Connery then i would be extremely disappointed...again, i think it would be really hard to find a proper voice for Ganondorf, but for newer villains maybe it wouldn't be that bad.

Anyway, at the end of the day, how much the game would benefit from VA? would it make it a better experience overall? would it be worth to have VA, even if it is awful as long as Zelda "gets with the times"?

Personally, i think the games are fine the way they are after all, i play Zelda because of the Zelda experience, not because i want to hear them talk and for the people that claim that VA is important, well look at Dark Souls, a game with so very little VA that it never feels old or dated because, but i wouldn't be against VA as long as Link remains silent...Zelda? well i think it would be a mistake to have her talking but if Nintendo finds that perfect voice for her then it would be awesome.

What do you say guys?

I don't find VA to be all that important, they are a minor when it comes to game development. Developers should concentrate on polishing the gameplay and fix bugs that are lying around instead of adding in VA.

They can if they want to, as long as they have the time and money. But I'd prefer to have them spend their resources with polishing the game.

Pretty much what everyone else said. Link can stay silent, but everyone else should have voice actors.

Exactly, which is more than enough reason to keep away VA from Zelda.

Would be nice if every character had a voice besides Zelda, link and Ganon. It would also be funny  however nintendo characters aren't allowed a proper personality. Look at what happened in Metroid Other M. Everyone hated that samus even though she was a lot better looking than the normal one they hated her appearance also.

Persnally, i think Samus from Other M has been by far the best Samus next to Metroid Fusion Samus, sadly the VA in the game was horrible.

I still don't get why they didn't asked Jennifer Hale to voice Samus in other M.

They would have to hire good voice actors and go all-or-nothing. Having everyone else BUT Link talk would completely ruin the atmosphere they are trying to achieve. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption proved this. Having Samus silent among a group of talkers just detracts from the experience. I couldn't care less either way since I'm not a huge Zelda fan... but Nier proves that a Zelda-like adventure can have an incredibly well-written and paced story, with deep, likeable and talking characters.

IMHO the best Voice Actress in any Video Game, besides is not like she is not familiar with Metroid.

I'm not against it. It would work if they hired good talent, and left Link silent. Considering Other M, though, NoA does not know a good voice actor from a bad one.

Nah, VA would ruin the series.

Just thinking about Midna or Skull kid having bad voice acting makes me cringe.

Note: Other M didn't have bad voice acting... just a bad script that didn't allow the actors to really do anything.

Yeah, she did voiced Samus for the Prime trilogy after all. I think in an article or interview someone asked her why she wasn't the voice actress in Other M, she did say she was free at the time but Nintendo never called her to offer the role.

I love the sounds NPCs make in SS. I prefer that in conjunction with well written dialogue over VA but heavily gimped text, becasue as it now it's not possible to implement VA outside of cutscenes.

Only because of Voice Acting?

Do you realice that Dark Souls doesn't need VA? that Super Mario doesn't need VA? that Paper Mario doesn't need VA?

Do you realice that a bad VA could do so much harm to the franchise?

I mean, of course you don't since its you..i'm just saying.

I thought the Voice acting was good, the only thing that messed it up was Samus too girlish attitude at times... ( I'm thinking of the Ridley Scene  ) but yea I agree the personality felt refreshing so it wouldn't be so bad if they threw in a VA for zelda ofcourse if they do that they'll have to throw in more personality and the fans hate that. If only some other company got their hands on Zelda *sigh* so many things it can accomplish with it, make the game more violent and more barbaric.. imagine link fighting like the character in Shadow of the colosus jumping on top of bosses stabbing it's legs arms trying to cripple it become more savage.

IF they do it properly then sure. but going by nintys performance with VO work thats unlikely. bad voice acting is one of my bugbears with games....ever since tales of symphonia (not ninty but...*shudder*). if its going to be bad then just let me read it...my brain will do a much better job. no VO work is better than bad VO work any day of the week.

The opening cinematic is the only poor performance her voice actress gives... and it is mostly due to the terrible script.

Honestly, that's the only part i disliked about Other M, other than that i really liked that Samus...oh that and her ridiculous height, i mean i'm not expecting her to be super tall, but in the cutscenes without her suit she looked like she was 5"4...seriously, what the hell? at the very least 5"10 would have been ok.

I think a more advanced Zelda game would be great, but not just VA. HD visuals, crazy physics, and all the trimmings. I'd rather them keep Link silent, though, since I don't think any voice could please everyone.

the more zelda i play, the more i appreciate the current voice acting. the characters' voices often match up with their musical themes. that would be a lot harder and more rare with full voice acting. the only sure way id definitely want full voice acting is if nintendo came up with a hyrulian language and had the actors read it like that.

If I had a dollar for everytime some one had a comment that didn't make sense. You do realize that Paper Mario is pretty similar to Zelda. It is an rpg with long elements of dialoguge that is read instead of spoken. If you are arguing that Zelda needs voice acting you should argue the same for the Paper Mario series.

Back on topic, what worries me the most about voice acting is the large amount of very strange characters that the Zelda series has. I have voices in my head for several characters and they crazy characters seem to work better when each person can imagine a unique voice for a Goron or a Kwikwi (spelling is probably wrong even though they are one of my new favorite races). ANd last but not least...how will they voice Tingle and not ruin it???

the more zelda i play, the more i appreciate the current voice acting. the characters' voices often match up with their musical themes. that would be a lot harder and more rare with full voice acting. the only sure way id definitely want full voice acting is if nintendo came up with a hyrulian language and had the actors read it like that.

I agree, having a different language be spoken with the text still shown would work. That way it wouldn't sound as rediculous having crazy voices for some of the characters that would match the character

I don't care either way, the games aren't about voice acting at all. It's like going into a metroid game expecting a good story.

I think Ninty would mess up badly if they had VA. So I say keep them the way they are.

I want Link silent but everyone else talking. Knowing Nintendo they'd mess it up though and hire lousy writers and lousy voice actors and then when it's terrible they'll say "YOU SEE THIS IS WHY WE DON'T ALLOW VA IN ZELDA!" As is typical of Nintendo they blame the tools instead of the one holding the brush.

No, never. Nintendo put in VA in Mario and Metroid previously, and it didn't make those games any better, and I'd argue it made Metroid worse. Even putting aside Nintendo's track record with VA, I feel how they implement the text combined with the facial expressions gets the emotion across as is.

Yea, Link can be a mute but it's time for VA, Zelda for WiiU should have VA to compliment those nice HD graphics
