Would you pay $100 for Half Life 3?

Watching ESPN and the may weather pacquiao fight is going to be $100 to order on ppv. Got me thinking, if half life 3 released with a $100 price tag would you buy it?

Im sure millions would, and in turn it would be disastrous for us gamers as a whole, it will warrant every other developer to do the same thing. Rockstar charging $100 for gta6, and so on.

Depends on what the game contains for content. I'd be willing to pay $400 for a game if it contained enough shit to make me feel it was worth it. I'm rather sure I have in the case of MMO's like runescape or Wow.

off topic but this is something i don't get. you wait 4 years, waste years of your life waiting to save a few bucks. I'm the type of person to get it and enjoy it right away. my fun and enjoyment is way more important than saving some bucks.

Why'd I pay $100 to watch the fight, I can go to the bar and order $100 worth of beer and chicken wings and watch the fight for free, or just stay home and watch it for free.

I was going to cheer for Pacquiao originally back when I wanted the fight, then he came out and talked like a shitty third world Catholic about homosexuality and now I could care less which fucking loser wins this fight, it's either a bigot or an illiterate bigot.

As for HF3L? Sure some people would pay $100 for it. I mean people paid $60 for a FFXV demo they'd pay $100 for HL3. Anyhow, doesn't matter, Valve isn't going to make it, they get rich just sitting back and letting third parties publish games on Steam and collect their cut, they are in no way compelled to make HL3. That's why they've instead focused on their Steambox bullshit and making baseless claims about a closed Windows OS just to sell their products, pretentiously playing that "for the people, big corps evil" angle and you all regurgitate his mind tricks like you're all a bunch of sock puppets Game Newel's busted a nut or few into.

There is no game in the world that I would even contemplate paying $100 for, anyone who would pay that much for a new release is a fool. I am completely against game piracy but if a developer released a game at that price I would pirate it on principle.

I don't know that it is wasting anything, there are tons of games to play while waiting for a discount. I never buy games at full price, and if you wait a few months you typcially get very deep discounts. I think 4 years and 5 bucks is a bit drastic, but waiting a bit saves you serious money and circumvents the aggravation of day 1 bugs/glitches

I mean yeah it will be a big name title that I;ve heard of and it might have piqued my interest slightly and so I'll grab it on a sale for $5 because why not. But don't be mistaken. My hype level is 0. If a game actually excites me like Star Wars Battlefront 3, then sure. I'll shell out 60 bucks day one. But I'm not going to pay $100. That's just telling publishers that they can push me around.

Pokemon. I'm a large pokemon fanboy. I'm not paying $100 which is more than twice the price of a normal pokemon game unless it is something crazy like a remaster of every game to date.

It's been my most anticipated game since this time last year. I get stupid amounts of mileage out of these games as well, I know for a fact I'll get 100 hours minimum out of MGSV. And that's just the single player.

Other games I'd take the gamble on would be Zelda U and whatever the next Metroid is, though they're not nearly on the same level as my need for MGSV lol

Half Life 3? No, of course not. Considering how bad most games are today I probably would spend $100 if it meant quality. Back in the early 90s, Street Fighter 2 on the NES was being sold for over msrp(i don't remember what the msrp actually was) at places like funcoland--they were selling it for over $100. Many places it was $79.99. Virtua Racing on Genesis was $100.

Those games are more an exception though. When Nintendo 64 launched, the games cost $59.99 and $69.99. I'd say having a $69.99 price tag in 1996 is about the same thing, no? I always make this comparison because I remember going to toysRus to check out the games: a 20oz Pepsi/Coke product was around 60 to 70 cents.

Since Half Life 2 was more a super good game for it's time than a game that still holds up, I have no reason to be hyped enough to even pay normal retail price for a new Half Life game. The Last Guardian though is another story. SoTC was and still is a work of art. It's boss designs and gameplay were all top notch. The games aren't deep, but at what they do, they do damn well.

Haha, really though. It's not anything against Half Life, they're certainly not bad games. It's just that there are so many games I'm trying to catch up on, plus new games I'm into coming out all the time. Unless it's something I'm really looking forward to I'm just not going to mess with it. Money is never the issue, but time definitely is.

No. Valve has really lost my respect. They keep toying and teasing the game might come, without ever outright denying or approving the game will be made. And that's made worse by the fact that Gabe said the Half Life series would conclude, years ago. I've never played Half Life, but it just pisses me off Valve feels so arrogant to act that way.

No. I wouldn't even pay $60. I'd wait for them to put it on an inevitable fire sale on steam. I'd pay between $4.99-$9.99 for it. I played some of Half-Life 1, some of Half-Life 2, and some of both Episodes and and I guess I just don't get the love for them. They are decent games, sure, but they aren't the end all some people make them out to be imo. Before I get any flack, I played them on PC.

The first one was kind of different for FPS games when it first came out on PC but you probably already know that. That's pretty much where all the buzz came from. From there onwards the whole thing got insanely over-rated and nobody really knows why, it just happened.

The only way I would if the game did something different.. Seriously we have seen sequels to HL2, in the form of every major singleplayer linear AAA FPS out there.. HL2 became the blueprint for basically every fps out there that wanted a tightly controlled narrative experience.. It's basically what the entire CoD singleplayer campaigns are.. HL2 felt new and fresh at it's release because few to no fps's did that (at least at that level) like HL2 did in narrative and presentation.. Fast forward 11 years after it's release with dozens of games that have copied off of it, well it doesn't seem so special now.

I guess teased may be the wrong word. Just recently, IGN I think had an interview with Gabe about the future of Half Life. He basically said it probably won't come, but there's a chance it will. It's just such a prick move to keep saying the same thing over and over and not give people a concrete answer about the Half Life series. He also said years ago that the Half Life series would come to a close, that episode 3 would come. But it's not looking that way now. I just feel it's dirty.
