Which would you prefer more? having SONY release the PS4 on 2014 with more powerful hardware than X720, or release it the same time as X720 on 2013 with pretty much similar power to X720?

Having three systems next gen with varying levels of hardware will create all sorts of difficulties for multiplat titles, which could potentially suck for a lot of gamers.
Also, if they do make a more powerful system and release it later...Sony will be releasing the most expensive console in last place once again. Could be a problem for them.
As I said in another thread, it would make more sense to release with the same specs as the 720 rather than improved specs over the 720. Reason being, since the general consensus is that 720 (or WiiU) will be releasing first, they will obtain lead platform status with 3rd party developers. Multi-platform games are generally just ported over to other consoles. The extra power of the PS4 (if it were to release a year later like the other scenario implies) would not be taken advantage of. 3rd party devs would not spend the extra time to make 2 different versions of the same game. Development time costs money, and that's just not the way they operate, never have, never will. In a perfect world, yes, they will make console specific versions of each game, but it just doesn't work that way. Their best bet would just be to make their hardware as similar to the 720 and Wii U as possible, and I'm sure developers would also appreciate it if they made their system architecture a little more developer friendly. I can't tell you how many times I heard developers this generation complain about how hard it was to develop for the cell at first compared to the PC centric architecture of the 360.
No point of more powerful when 3rd parties will be developing for WiU/720 and not spending any more resources just for PS4 games.
Sony seems really dumb though they'll probably try it if they survive that long.
PS3 is a sinking ship, filled with irrelevant JRPG's and sub-par shooters. It's only saving grace is Naughty Dog, and eventually they too will seek to go to more profitable platforms.
The Last of Us will be the PS3's last hurrah, and Sony's as well, into the gaming world. At least it will end on a high note.
Lol no, but nice try anyway! You are obviously trolling to spite cows(like me haha) Try harder next time! lol troll! The thing is, if Sony doesn't bring out the PS4 and the PS3 is going up against the new Xbox and the Wii U, its entirely possible alot of developers may just stick to developing games for the 360/PS3 and have those games on the Wii U also. I think that the Wii U may end up only being slightly more powerful then the current gen consoles on the same level as the Xbox vs the PS2.

So are you in denial of Sony's financial troubles?
Or perhaps defendingtheir overallmediocre lineup of exclusives?
Or how about the failure of the Vita, due to no system selling software?
The Playstation gaming brand is fading, face it.

Just out of curiosity, what system do you think has a better lineup of exclusives?
And hang on, let me get my jump to conclusions mat.
The Vita has a Western Centric launch library, and it has only been released in a country which makes up only 10% of global hardware sales. You're seriously deeming the device a failure before it even releases in North America?

Not really.
PS3 has vaporware titles that seem to keep being mentioned over and over (Versus XIII and TLG) and even the main guy involved with TLG is leaving, so bye bye another quality dev.Look what happened when Itagaki left his team.
Insomniac even said no more Resistance titles, didn't sell well enough. Safe to assume noone thought it was a quality title worth the purchase.
Killzone 3 is easily outclassed by the Halo franchise, so why bother?
Twisted Metal is set to release soon, and hell that's going to be awful. Even packaging in TM Black just to compensate for the poor quality of the title they themselves are releasing.
All that's left is lame JRPG titles that are irrelevant and Naughty Dog titles. One dev with one upcoming exclusive won't save an entire console which is already in last place.

I can already tell there's no point trying to even start a conversation with you. Your minds made up alreadyI pick the later and more powerful option and its the most likely to happen too, as things stand now I would rather see Sony have the extra horse power because they are the only one that will actually put it to good use.
of course as late as possible with uber specs and ownage exclusives , i can still get the next box meanwhile

Wow!They came a year after 360 and see what happened, even when xbox was a rather big failure
Now that 360 is a huge success, releasing a year later would as well mean leaving console bussiness altogther
I'll tell ya right now that if MS launches a only slightly to moderately more powerful console I swear I'll just skip it and wait for Sony to make it's move and if indeedPS4 is a beastly console by TRUE comparison...
I'll be mooing next gen. :P

Considering Sony released the PS3 back in 2006, they had lots of time to think on specs for their next console.. I think this time Sony will look closely on whats being offered by their competitors and hopefully make sure their system is on par or maybe slightly better (in terms of hardware)..
But most importantly Sony needs to make sure that their next console has a price-tag close to its competition...
Playstation 1: Weaker Than N64 Playstation 2: Weaker Than Gamecube and Xbox Playstation 3: No significant difference compared to Xbox 360. Come Again?Ok why does everyone think that they will be even in power if they come out at the same time/year/month bala balbal ? PS has always been more powerfull why would anything change now?

Also,
1. Most successful (in it's generation)
2. Most successful
3. Least successful
I would prefer they release something that works. Microsoft had issues with hardware, Sony had issues of unfinished software. No more beta releases at a premium.
As long as Sony says it is 100x more powerful their fanbase will believe it.Maybe they will release PS4 one year later with the same hardware as X720, but hyping it as 100x more powerful. Like they did this gen
PAL360
I would like to see the next Playstation be more powerful than the next Xbox, just like how it is now.
i don't see what difference it makes since multiplats will just be released for the lowest common denominator anyway and system power does nothing but ensure your system will lose a marketshare battle.
remind me sw, how many times has most powerful system won a console battle?
none times?
oh yeah that's how many.
It's ironic it's called the Last of US, Sony must have gone with a double meaningPS3 is a sinking ship, filled with irrelevant JRPG's and sub-par shooters. It's only saving grace is Naughty Dog, and eventually they too will seek to go to more profitable platforms.

The playstation one and that was massive domination, it's also the reason why the ps2 was so successfull and the reason why sony consoles still existsi don't see what difference it makes since multiplats will just be released for the lowest common denominator anyway and system power does nothing but ensure your system will lose a marketshare battle.
