Wouldn't Fighting Games actually control better on PC? Why so little support?

Firstly, before I get bombarded with any "lulz jealous hermit" comments, know that I am NOT actually a PC gamer, by preference or in practice. I do, however, find it a travesty that those who are have missed out on just about every major fighting title for the past two generations. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't using a simple keyboard for fighting input share the same main advantage over console controllers as a $60 arcade stick; that is, having all fingers hovering over the action buttons/keys at once as opposed to tasking a single right thumb to the same job? A simple configuration of WASD for movement/side-stepping and HJKL for attacking/blocking would blow any standard gamepad out of the water.

So, what's the deal with the next-to-nonexistant PC support for fighting games? I honestly can't see any good reason, only massive wasted potential, not just for controls, but online/LAN and modding as well. Anyone else share my thoughts on this?

Nah I think the issue would be movement. Moving in 3D fighters to me sounds much easier on an anolog stick instead of a keyboard.....

But the PC always has the preference of controls(u can use anything), and consistantly better visuals and framerates(60FPS should be a standard for a top fighter) would make the PC the ideal system for fighters/hell any genre.

The one area it sucks at is splitscreen, something that would be big in a Fighting game.

OTher than that PC is a perfect system for any genre....even JRPGs(PC just doesn't get many of them).

I dunno about any of you guys but I have a killer Mame cabinet setup.. a dream authentics excalibur to be exact. With the release of SFIV on pc, all I have to do is install it and I'm ready to go. Got the best dual joystick UMK3 setup and wireless connection and will be challenging players across the globe on my arcade! Unfair? Maybe. Fun as hell? Surely. Something consoles can't do? Absolutely.

you are absolutely right! its even better than an arcade stick. take SF for example. doing down forward on a stick is a takes physically longer, than simply having two fingers placed on down and right on the keyboard. not only that having a keyboard and mouse set up for action games is perfect as well. honestly PC is the best platform for games. one reason develoers go for consoles might be because of piracy. but I doubt that tho...

So you DON'T know what a keystroke combination is.

For example, CTRL ALT DELETE. Point is, a few buttons can be pressed on the keyboard at once.

Well you have all the control options on the PC.

Heck you can go make yourself your very own arcade cabinet quite easily, with some old hardware that costs next to nothing.

Nope. well at least personally i find that the analog stick is better than the keyboard. If you want to try get a mame emulator and get something like marvel vs capcom. the keyboard just feels so weird. the analog stick is better but nothing beats a real arcade joystick.

Well, it isn't a very large genre anymore, doesn't really hit the PC demographic and requires you to have a gamepad. Couple this with the fact that most people own a games console as well as a PC and you begin to see there really is no need for them.

Well i am a hermit and gotta disagree, fighting games on a controller just feels better than K/M. I havent given fighting games on PC a chance but i LOVE the classic arcade stick or controller.

Now....lets try a good MMO or RTS on Consoles XD (MUCH MUCH worse than a fighting game on PC)

I think it's just due to historical reason, in the past fighters required splitscreen and PC with its small screens at the time wasn't good for it, you didn't have as good controller support back then either. So they were forgotten.

Now however, online could somewhat replace splitscreen on PC, and modern PC screens are big enough for splitscreen anyway, and adding support for something like 360 controller shouldn't be much of an issue. It's just that people's mindsets are still stuck to the past, there's no technical reason these days why fighters couldn't work on PC.

I've seen you say this so many times now it's boring. You must have some real keyboard issues if you are always hitting the wrong buttons.

I agree a pad or stick is the only way to go for fighting games but as I said before the PC demographic does not demand fighting games *shrug*.

which is why you have keys to alternate between movements speeds, or the mouse wheel.

A controller only registers a set few movement speeds, dicatated by the degree the analouge stick is at. (run, walk, crawl).

the ergonomics of the keyboard make ti very difficult and counter intuituve though imho.

we have seen from interesting fighting games on PC that use the mouse and keyboard...like rag doll kung fu (great game).

but the traditional button masher? i think it would just be too clumsy on a keyboard. theres also the problem of ppl making keyboard macros that can do special moves with the press of 1 key.

fighting games, like side scrolling beat em ups (eg DMC or god o war) and most platformers (though creed is better with a kb/m imho), are genres that are better with a controller imho.

Um what? Using a Keyboard for a fighter would be a no no man. A 360 Grappler would be near impossible to play with as would any move that would rely on making Motions involving the W Button,

Maybe it has to do with taste and prefrence. When I game of the PC I usually go for MMOs or Strategy games because the computer keyboard allows for a full array of controls that are necessary when mingling with large scale games [controling armies etc...] and on consoles most of the games are FPS so the ability to mobilize the controling mechanism and its particular shape and qualities makes it ideal for action games where it's less legistical and more... simplistic?

Eh? I can't even imagine playing a fighting game with a keyboard. I think it would be horrendous. Typing on a keyboard has never really felt like "gaming" to me. MMO's, RTS' and FPS' are great on the PC, the rest of the genres can stay on consoles, if you ask me.
