Wouldn't it be great if PS3 flopped? Then Microsoft would basically have a monopoly over game consoles! After all, we've seen how great Microsoft monopolies are... Windows ME for life.

The fact of the matter is, competition brings good games, and I hope both the PS3 and 360 do great. I own both.

I hope the Wii wins. $400 and $600 is getting a bit expensive for a console. If I was smart with my money I would have just played my PS2 last year while I waited for the Wii and got it instead of the 360 but I'm not smart with my money :cry: Anyway i had no idea it would sell so well back then and possibly get the most 3rd party support in the end. Back then i thought it was the PS3 I should have waited for. Meh I will probably get them all but I still think $400 and $600 is more expensive then consoles should be.

The problem is if the PS3 dominates it would be just as worse for the industry as if MS controlled the market. The PS3 cannot be the dominant leader this gen because companies need to get the message that consumers have a limit. Because if the PS3 succeeds the price next gen might be $800+ with more focus on multimedia functionality and pushing formats than a focus on games and gaming which IMO is a very bad thing. I don’t think the PS3 should completely fail but it needs to not do as well as last gen otherwise I fear the precedent it could set.

As long as it gets SOTC 2, Killzone 2, Project Zero 4 (Fatal Frame), Silent Hill 5 and drop to about £300 with a smaller design then it can flop all it wants.

To put it as a simple analogy, Wii is a console in competition with Xbox 360 as Linux is an operating system in competition with windows. I wouldn't consider Wii to be a serious compeditor with the 360, as they are competing for entirely different markets.

that post made no sense... in case your living under a rock BOTH LINUX AND WINDOWS ARE IN THE SAME MARKET!!! I agree with your last sentence but its more like Windows competing with iTunes... now those two are in the same realm but are not in direct competition

are you serious? How can any self-respecting gamer wish a flop on a company? That seems really stupid to me. all you that voted yes are incredibly uneducated on how industry works. If there were ever to be a monopoly (IE, If the PS3 by some Microsoft money miracle were to flop) on the gaming industry, that means whatever Microsoft wanted would be done. If Microsoft didn't want to make any JRPGs, there would be no JRPG's. if Microsoft wanted to charge $100 a month for online, everyone would have to pay that. If Microsoft wanted to charge $700 for a console, then everyone that wanted a next gen gaming console would have to pay it, because there would be no other options. You guys really need to be careful what you wish for.

I don't know what you are talking about. Let me rephrase. Windows and linux generally do not compete with the same people. Very few people use linux exclusively, and thus, there is no competition. Most people who use linux, also use windows.

I would prefer the 360 to do a dreamcast on us and die early, if microsoft ever takes over the gaming world via a monopoly i quit gaming. But we all know the wii is going to dominate anyway.

i dont want ti to be a complete flop, but i would want to see there position in the top spot wobble. they seem to get big headed, and carried away because of their last two success. they need to know what we, the gamers, want and not what they want us to have.
