Wouldnt it be sleazy if they released a new PS or Xbox in 2 years?

They both sell for $300, so if someone buys one now, i think they will be cheated if a new one is released in 2 years. i mean i bought them around release but millions will buy them from now till whenever, and before they know it.... bam a new xbox or a new playstation.

i remember back in the day a dying console was around $100 when the time of a new one came around. so you sort of expected it

If sony releases a new disc format, it would hurt them the most. Blu Ray still hasnt ousted DVD format.

they need to hurry up the 360 is ancient by console standards and what i spend on a console is a drop in the bucket compared to what i spend on games.

In 2 years the 360 will have been out for seven years. It's a fair amount of time for a piece of electronics to be on the market.A new system shouldn't be an issue,It's not like you have to buy it when it comes out.

What is it with people and all of the crying every time a new product comes out? It's like people expect to be able to afford everything when it's announced and all products should be tailor made just for them...Get over it and stick with what you got.

That's what you have to accept when buying into a market that is constantly changing and evolving. A company can't be expected to just keep to the same console due to people buying late, it just doesn't make any sense.

The PS3 certainly launched at a high price point, but the 360 and Wii were reasonable. Next-gen should hopefully show a significant difference in terms of launch prices.

Certainly wouldn't consider it sleazy in any sense of the word, as it's just business, and I am sure people who are still buying any system will be aware eventually there will be a new one and they wont feel cheated in anyway, as i am pretty sure they are aware technology is always progressing, nothing will be forcing the to get the new consoles right away anyway, as they have clearly waited until the price has dropped with the current batch they will more than likely do the same with the next lot.

Honestly at this point I don't see it happening. The Move and Kinect just came out and it'll take 2 years just to tap into all that. The Move games currently are basic (albeit high-def and sexy) but once they seep into the bigger titles (*cough Killzone cough*) the hardware technology will finally start to peak. And no, something isn't a "tacked-on afterthought" if it's motion designed from the ground up.

Let's just hope next gen consoles start around the $300 mark.

Last gen, a few years in, you could get a PS2 or Xbox for $129, and the Gamecube was around $99 with games like Metroid Prime.

I don't know why it would be sleazy. The systems have been out for a pretty good while now. You expect them to just quit selling them for a few years and then after a couple of years announce that they're working on a new one? I don't know about that.

This is the most future proof gen do far since we are 5 years in and games still impress when it comes to graphics. but i cant wait for next gen. I would love the new consoles to come next year.

Yeah they are not going to say, "by the way, the new console is coming out next year, so you should just wait for that instead of buying the current one we have on the market." I would be socked if at least one of the companies didnt put out a new console by the end of 2012.

I agree. The thing is GT5 JUST came out for the PS3. Also the next installment of GTA hasn't even been announced, and I'm willing to bet they're going to make more than one GTA game for this gen. The problem is games take so long to develop now for these consoles. It's not like back in the SNES/PS1/PS2 days where it takes no time to make a 2D side-scroller. Also, the PS3 just got a firmware update to make it 3D compatible... Whereas with the PS2 and previous consoles, we could see new consoles on the horizon at about the 4-5 year mark, I honestly can't see it with the PS3 and 360. The Wii? Maybe. But definitely not with the PS3 and 360.

Console brands are like fine wine. You have to wait for it to mature. Or else it won't reach it's potential. Technology development is not advancing at the same speed as before. PS and Xbox have made tremendous leaps in eachiteration. But I measure progress with the PC. If a high end PC is not a huge leap over the consoles. Then a console iteration is not ready or worth being made now. Especially when they keep squeezing more juice out of the consoles. Despite some games claiming they have pushed it to the limit.

It will only be sleezy if we dont carry gamertags/psn names across with all achievs/trophys. That would suck as its a nice history of the games you play

yeah time flys im always ready for next gen in about 5. since i didnt buy a next gen system till 07 when 60 gig ps3s went to 500 ill be happy if no new systems come out till 2 years is up.

That doesn't make much sense, whoever buys a system several years after release wouldn't get the next gen right at launch, so it doesn't really matter wheter you're the day 1 buyer or the year 5 buyer :S Personally I want the next gen as fast as possible, the hardware on every console shows it's weakness extremly good and I finally want to have a console to support 1080p @ 60FPS in 3D even if it has a lot of details.

It´s not insecurity dude! Most of my friends have PS3. I have been playing PS3 almost as much as 360 this gen and both consoles have games i love. But yeah, the fact ppl still bash 360 graphics when it has been doing exactly the same as PS3 does annoys me a bit.

Well, I would personally prefer that the next-generation of consoles are unveiled in at least 3 years time, I want developers to focus on gameplay and content, not graphics, the games of today look good enough already.

yea thats why i buy early in the generation. people say its too expensive but atleast i have more years to enjoy them.
