the game has no loadtimes at all, how the hell did nd do this wit the blu ray drive in the ps3 being the 2x drive
streaming textures, hdd, ? whats the deal, why havent other devs done this before.

did you play the game allready. cool, so NO loadtimes WHAT-SO-EVER in uncharted.. thanx for the heads up.
maybe you need to install the game on the HD
Streaming textures, yes... Load times? ...It had plenty of them.[QUOTE="blackice1983"]gears did it a year ago. cows lolyoshi_64
Anyways... just wondeirng, is this based off the Demo? Cause... most demos I play don't do any load times after the intial starting up load.
No, in one of the interviews with ND a dev said there would be no load times. I would expect that there will be no load times within levels (Easily hid within little cutscenes, devs are smart).did you play the game allready. cool, so NO loadtimes WHAT-SO-EVER in uncharted.. thanx for the heads up.

Its true, except if you die. Im guessing cutscenes mask load times, while the harddrive also helps alot.
No load times = your Blu-Ray drive is gonna burn out with all the activity it's going to have to do.
Sometimes it's better to let non-mechanical hardware (like CPUs and RAM) handle data then constantly streaming it off a disc on the fly...
Time will tell...

Thats what the HDD is for.

yeah, they do fantastic things with cutscenes these days. In a IGN podcast they said Mass effect wouldn't have loadtimes either.
I guess there will be some scutscenes in elevators then :-P

Sweet, Mass Effect was already my most hyped game.

Likely it will do what Metroid Prime has done and other games then.. hide them very well that you won't notice them. It still has to load up some part of the game, and likely this is the case I'm sure... plus theyprobably believe you'll install some of the game onto the HDD I guess. Regardless, I really want to play this game. :(Didn't you download the demo to your harddrive? Most of the loading times for the PS3 are because of the console having to read data off the game disc.arcmanis
The ps3 uses the hdd quite a bit though. Most games even use an install process now, for example Oblivion uses 4 gigs to install.
Yes, all games have load times. All load up a map or level, at the least.
But what I think the TC is trying to say, or should be if not, is that although there are many claims of slow loads because of blu-ray, that has not been the case. Every game I've played has been fantastic on load times with the PS3. You all remember Oblivion, you could go anywhere with just a slight pause on the PS3. On the 360 it was far worse.
I'm not saying 360 has bad load times. All I'm saying is that PS3 most certainly doesn't have bad ones.

Absolutely nothing, interesting game yes, but thats us far as it goes.
Come on, dude. The sotry seems to be great. the humor in the characters is great. The graphics, great. The animations, great. The smoothness, great. The use of the six-axis, great. What else you want?
can someone please tell me what's streaming textures?nintendo-4life
basically the idea is that the dev manages to get the data from the disc into the system and on the screen without using a loading screen and without the player noticing. its a bit like streaming music off dinternets say. theres lots of tricks that devs use to hide loading screens like loading all the necessary data into the system while theres a FMV or cinematic running. once its finished, the game can then immediately bring the new data in for use. no loading screen needed.
and oblivion has a 4GB install? is that optional or required? if thats needed then...wow. no wonder the game performs better on PS3, the entire thing is on the HDD.

because of the hard disk.. blu ray is slow.
10GB Install Confirmed. BitterExtract
holy ****.
that's one thing i hated about the PS3, games installing... have enough time spent juggling space on my PC, shouldn't have to do that with a console IMO, but i guess it's what you HAVE to do with the PS3 given the architecture and BR read times.

it is certainly nice to have it there (why MS why...why didnt u have a HDD as standard u dolts)....but it doesent really put any confidence in the blu-ray drive for games does it? i thought bethesda improved loading performance by putting multiple copies of the game on one disc as well as using the HDD for cachine like on 360 and PC. didnt know it needed a 4GB install.

Ummm... you can always put in a larger HDD.
