With almost 2000 post's in the My Xbox 360 is broken thread, Kinda makes me wonder if the system is really reliable. But even Gamespot isnt the only place I keep hearing and seeing problems with the 360. One of my friends 360's was scratching the disc for some reason and he wasnt even moving the system around.

So why is people having alot of problems with 360's even after a year from launch?

They rushed the launch, my launch died after 13 months. MS gave me a brand new one, runs much quieter and cooler. So hopefully old the crummy ones will die and the new and better will take over.

My launch one died as well, and MS gave me a  new one. Same deal. Much smoother in general.
MS admitted the launch units were bad, so they extended the warrenty and are being decent about it. Couldn't ask for more from a company that owning up to manufacturing defects in the early units.

It's great to have a warranty but not so great to have to use it, especially multiple times.  It's like owning a Daewoo or KIA.  That's right, Daewoo, KIA, and Xbox 360.

Maybe if people who have never had their 360 break posted something, then you would have an argument.

It's unrealiable, but not as insanely widespread as you'd think Probably PS2 level or slightly less. People just aren't as vocal about it compared to how they were about PS2 due to the fact that Sony had terrible customer service and didn't acknowledge any problems, and never did free repairs unlike MS

I have a launch system with no problems. A lot of the overheating launch systems were due to leaving the silver tape on the GPU heatsink.

MS and 360 are doing the same in oder to "increase" the number of sold consoles and fool the public... and people is buying this system war .... there's no such thing everything is a business ... Well, I'm on my third system. My launch system broke back in october and MS actually repaired it for free. Better thing yet... is that the "repaired" console I got back was broken lol. I had to send that one back also and wait longer to get a new 360. The third one that I got back works like a charm, they also gave me a free copy of PGR3 for the trouble :D. If my 360 breaks again, I'm just not going to bother with it anymore.

I've had mine since launch not a single problem or issue. i think people just don't know how to take care of a powerfull console like this. you can't just shove it in a crapped entertainment center with a bunch of other components. I have mine under the TV standing up with nothing arouund it for at least 1 foot. HAvn't had a single issue.

No MS didnt admit the launch ones were bad, they downplayed the failure rate then got sued. After getting sued they extended the warranty and fixed broken ones for free to solve the problem.

Because every single xbox 360 owner is on GS

Had mine 5 months, constant problems. Best friend is about to be on his third.

And i think people use that as an excuse to downplay the problem with the 360's. Mine is well ventilated, and has never been moved by me, yet it freezes all the time and gives me disc read errors. Hell even a blue screen twice just for turning it on.

It does not increase their SOLD number because they give you refurbished consoles, not brand new ones, and most people dont spend 300-400 dollars on a console and if it breaks not call the company to fix it but buy a brand new one.

I'm not trying to downplay anything I know that with every piece of electronic hardware there is a percentage of the yield that will fail after it passed initial testing and leaves the factory. that being said I've never had a problem with mine and out of the 70 friends on my friends list that had there since launch none has had any problems either so i don't think the problem is as huge as some would like to make people believe

Makes me kinda glad I chose the PS3 after all. Then again, one year from now, we could be reading about how PS3's mysteriously melt down after 6 months. You can never tell with these things. Final advice: buy the warranty. Normally, I avoid those things like the plague. But if you're shelling out $400-$600 for hardware, you might as well protect your investment

To tell you the truth, I've had to send mine in four times (all free of charge though). I guess the last time was kinda my fault, because someone tripped over the cord and moved it while it was running. Thank god my disk wasn't scratched.

I have one with a manufacturing date of November of 2005, and it's still going strong. Hasn't given me any problems. I haven't seen the red lights come on once.

Now watch it fail today, ahahaha. No matter though - I can get a brand new one from Circuit City if necessary free of charge.

Dude I can knock my Slim PS2 over all day and it will still keep running the games. But I guess the 360 isnt built to be durable or reliable?

I'm not sure about the newer released versions of the 360, but the launch Xbox 360's were the most unreliable system ever created.

My launch Core broke on me... and now it got fixed... but I won't be suprised if it breaks on me again. Right now with Gears online, and XBL in general it gives me a rough time. I don't know if it's Gears (cause it mainly happens on it the most but then again it's the only online game I really play most of the time) but my Xbox 360 will freeze sometimes when I'm trying to sign onto XBL.

My 360 is a launch one, and it has never given me a any problem. However, last gen I had to replace one Xbox and 2 PS2's. I dont care if my 360 is noisy since I have 5.1 sound. Also, I am already used to this machine and if it wants to last for the full 5 years I have no reason to change it.

I have challanged anyone to show evidence that more than the allowed percent of units were defected. So far no one has given evidence that more than the allowed percent of units were defected. If you can show more then we can demand micosoft recall them or refund our money, and we can take them to court.

Every electronic has a certain percent of defetive units. It is the way electronics are. Is the xbox 360 any different? Can anyone show evidence more xbox 360 units  broke per ration than sonys handycam? I think if over 10% or 15% of uniuts are faulty in an electronic they have to recall. I cannot remember the max %.

There is no such thing as "allowed" percentage. Its like saying "we designed this airbag to allow you to die 25% of the time." If my X360 breaks, it breaks and Im pissed off...I dont care about the 'allowed percentage'....

[QUOTE="CwlHeddwyn"]10million units sold 2,000 posts in the my Xbox 360 broke thread- you do the math..Viviath

What an ignorant statement. Do you think that the only place people discuss their 360 breaking is on gamespot?

Every 360 owner I know personally has had to send their system in to MS. Some of them have done it multiple times. Yeah, MS replaces the unit, usually with a refurbished one. But why did they release the bad units in the first place?

It's great to have a warranty but not so great to have to use it, especially multiple times. It's like owning a Daewoo or KIA. That's right, Daewoo, KIA, and Xbox 360.

Its like saying "we designed this airbag to allow you to die 25% of the time." If my X360 breaks, it breaks and Im pissed off...I dont care about the 'allowed percentage'....

actually there is by law. If more than the allowed percent of units are faulty they have to recall. If let's say only 5% of the systems are faulty there is no way there could be an actual lawsuit against microsoft. It is a fact every single electronic unit has a certain percent of units fail. I think it is always above 3% but I could be wrong on that.

If it breaks down then microsoft will send you a new one, even if it's out of warrenty (we'll here in England at least).
