Wow. Nearly 4 years later the DS4 still sucks.

That battery life. Wow. It's bad. How anyone could stand using a controller for a next gen system that needs to be charged every three hours is beyond me. It looks like Sony hasn't even bothered addressing it. The DS4 is a big comfort improvement over the DS3, but battery life worse than the Wii u game pad is a deal breaker for me.

Great system, bad controller.

I actually had worse battery life with the Wii U game pad. It never held a charge. I do agree the DS4 battery life is not good, which is why I have a charger that I put my controllers on when they get to one bar. No big deal.

It's utterly crap battery alright. I bought a long USB cable and just use it as a wired controller.

At least it's ok to use though. The DS3 was so bad, Sony even patched the PS3 to use DS4s. Much better Demons Soulsing with that pad!

At least the Wii U Gamepad's poor battery life is somewhat explicable- it's powering a gigantic screen and using state of the art streaming tech. The DS4's bad battery life is jut baffling.

The DualShock 4 is my favorite controller this gen, but I do agree that the battery life kinda sucks and the Xbox One controller has better analog sticks (the material they're made of). Don't want to use AA batteries though.

Any reason why the battery life is so bad ?

Like does it have a really small battery or a huge drain or what ?

Gotta agree with that. Bought a separate battery pack for my Xbox 360 controller and it lasts me like a month. Dual shock lasts like 3 days.

Battery Life worse than Wii U gamepad? I highly doubt that.

Anyways any person with common sense would have already paid for a 2nd controller so you can cycle through controllers. By the time one PS4 controller dies the other one is fully charged, so it should be a non issue.

I've always hated the fundamental design of the dualshock controllers with how they position the left analog stick in a position that the thumb does not naturally rest on when holding the controller.

And yeah the battery life sucks too. I don't know why Sony hasn't given us a way to turn off the annoying light bar so it doesn't drain the battery so much.

I'm still not sure it's the light bar, the light bar is an LED, those things don't take too much power.

I didn't have battery issues with the DS4. But with how busy I have been since I bought one, I rarely have Gaming sessions longer than 2 continuous hours now.

I have a second DS4.

I don't see how that nullifies the launch DS4 having a worse battery life than a November 2013 Wii U Gamepad though.

How in the Freaking hell you guys don't even bother to charge up your DS4 when you put it on Stand-by mode at all? It's not that hard to keep the damn controller charge if you leave your PS4 on stand-by mode and I always leave my system on stand-by anyways.

You can leave it charging in standby, and get annoyed when it discharges after about 3 hours?

On a rare cases and depending on the game, I have never run out of power beyond maybe 4 hours of game time and this is also me turning off the lightbars (Dim I think) and when I'm ready to take a break, I just plug my charger in and that's it. It's not that hard to do and let's ask ourselves this, do you really need to game more then 4 hours at all? You gotta give your body a rest man, don't over do it and 3/4 hours is basically the limits for me but I basically game more then 2 hours at least.

Yep it sucks but unless you have some kind of adapter which you could use the best controller, the Xbox controller, then you have to choice but to use it. I think it's because of the useless lights on the controller and the useless touchpad and weak unchangeable small internal battery inside which makes the thing drain faster than any controller. One solution is just got a very long charging cord and keep it attach at all times. It just sucks because PS4s lack USB ports so if you have an external hard drive and PSVR or whatever, you're out of USB ports to charge your controller. What a hassle. #GreatmessAwaits

My light bar is already at dim.

For longer play sessions, such as with RPGs like Persona, or on weekend evenings, or during parties, you absolutely run into the potential of the batteries dying out during a game session. The only reason it didn't drive me crazy in Persona 5 was because I kept cycling both my controllers.

When the Xbox controller gives you 30 hours of battery, the Switch controllers go to 40 hours, and Wii U Pro gives you 80 hours, there's no reason to be accepting poor battery life on the DualShock 4, or to be making excuses for it.

Same old dumbass excuse that you can purchase a second controller, it's so old and so dumbass that's boring or that other dumbassier excuse about getting a 15 ft cord to plug your shit battery life DS4 controller. Tons of updates and none so you can turn off the stupid light which in theory is needed for the flopped PoS4 camera.

@MonsieurX: RECHARGEABLE AA batteries ( that last like 40 hours ) because only cows ignore those exist so they always bring the subject that you need to purchase AA batteries on a regular basis, but of course, cows ain't that smart.

Sony put alot of tech into a $60 controller, they have to cut corners somewhere. They probably figured we'd buy a second one instead of whining about it.

Yeah, the battery is horrendous. As opposed to Nintendo's Pro controller, which is freakishly long.

I still much prefer the Elite controller, for battery life and just all-round use.

What tech did they put into this $60 controller? Why is them cutting corners acceptable to you as a consumer? Why is complaining about a product you spent money on 'whining' about it?

Well it is, having to change batteries is stupid. The situation with the DS4 doesn't really change that, it's short battery is just something that's nearly equally as stupid.

I would say it is a design flaw considering it borders on the same battery as a Vita or WIi-U tablet. Either they needed to cut out the touch pad or light, or whatever is causing the battery drain. Or they needed to include a bigger battery to at least cover about a week's worth of charge (like the DS3 and other controllers).

I actually don't have a problem with the battry life so far (only been 2 months and haven't played it a ton) but I definitely like the Dualshock 3 more. Also prefer the 360 and xbone controller too. Not a fan of the DS4

I never understand these threads. It makes me wonder what the hell you're doing with your DS4. I have two of them, and each one lasts 7-8 hours, pure gaming. I dim the light bars, but that's it. When one's dead I get up and plug it into my charger unit and swap it out with the other. Not that hard. These are the same two controllers I've had since buying my PS4, and I got it at launch. I've never had a problem with them. They're awesome controllers that fit comfortably in my hands, granted my hands are not huge or anything.

Guess I just don't understand the complaints.

3 hours should be enough time to have some fun and then give the couch a break. ;)
