You took out Backwards Compatibility? I mean, it doesn't matter to me since I got mine at launch, but your really screwing over the people who haven't bought one yet. I know that it helped make the price cut, but it sounds like your gypping anyone buying your system now, they don't even have a choice between whether they want BC or not. I just can't imagine how much more pissed I'd be if I didn't get a PS3 up until now. I mean, I remember you guys were always about BC, and made the PS3 work with it fantasticly.

So my question to users is, would you pony up the original price of a PS3for BC to still be included

not really... when i purchased my ps3 @ $600 i counted part of that total ($120-was the price of a new ps2 at the time) as purchasing a new PS2 (my old PS2 ate it... so i needed a new one). so not really screwin' folks over... remember there's still BC in the more expensive models, if anything sony can probably (after a long time) release an emulator via firmware update...

Not just a rant, also wanted to know other people's veiws on it. Curious to see if this will help or hurt the PS3.

No. Also, it was $500 for that system. Also, it's still too much to spend for a system.

"You will want work more to buy a ps3"

"The ps3 is not a games machine"

"Its probably too cheap"

Does the 80GB still have BC? Just not using the Emotion Engine right?

People still have a choice to pay extra for the BC so I see nothing wrong with a cheaper model.

No, they didn't bother me at all. I was a little dissapointed by lack of rumble until I played a PS3, then I saw it wasn't that vital, Glad to se they're bringing it back though.

I've had my 60GB PS3 since last December. I have yet to put one PS2 or PS1 game into my console. And I don't think the masses are that different from myself.

I've said it 50 times before and I'll say it again..... If you're that big of a fan of older-gen games, than you should have kept the older-gen console. If you didn't it was due to selling to upgrade. Just like you should do with your games.

BC is only a major issue here in SW. The real world isn't going to fret too much. Get over it.

I would die without BC... I play more PS2 games on it than PS3 games... the top 3 games I play on the PS3 (in order from time spent) at the moment is:

1. Persona 3

2. Pro Evolution Soccer 2007

3. Warhawk

Although I did buy a PS3 after my PS2 ate it... (6 years of gamin' bliss)... anyways.. you have no idea how many RPGs and other time consuming games i have on PS1 and PS2, in addition i'd much rather have 1 console (ps3 with bc) than 2 or more consoles (ps2 + any other next gen console).... Oh.. i do admit I have a wii... but it gathers dust until i invite folks over for dinner... other than that it just does that weird blue glowing thing next to my TV downstairs....

There's no denying that gamers like you are affected by this Sony decision. No doubt. But are you the norm? Maybe here in SW but not in the real world.

And I know you like those PS2 games, but couldn't you sell them and find something new to enjoy just as much? Isn't there a soccer game or two on PS3? And if its that important to ya, couldn't you just go buy a used PS3 with BC?

BC is no big deal here in SW...

why sell games? I can afford to purchase new games as they come out.. however the ps2 library is very strong.. the pc lineup is probably on par with the ps2 lineup....

no no no... there is no soccer game on the ps3... unless you count the PES:WE series on the ps2... besides fifa is just crap and anyone who knows anything about soccer games knows what i'm talkin' about.

maybe you had to sell your old games in order to afford newer consoles.. i'm too much of a pack rat to get rid of my old games.... c'mon i still enjoy my lunar silver star story complete, and heh... thousand arms for ps1....

The only thing keeping me from buying one now is the lack of BC, seriously take away one thing for another, I'm still going to wait for when real BC comes back.

WOW...hypocrisy at it's absolute finest:

Issue: Rumble

Sony: We aren't going to support rumble..it's to last gen! Instead we will have sixaxis!

Cows: HURRAY! Sixaxis is way better than rumble......I never noticed rumble anyways!

Sony: We are now going to support rumble....we have clearly listened to what our customers want.

Cows: OMG rumble is back!

...WTF?

Issue Price

Cows: MS has to many multiple sku's! They are confusing customers.

Sony: We are going to drop the 20gb PS3.

Cows: Alright.

Sony: We are going to add a 80 gb PS3.

Cows: Alright

Sony: We are going to drop the price of the 60gb by $100 and than keep selling it until we run out of stock.

Cows: Alright

Sony: Than we are going to introduce a 40gb PS3 to only certain parts of the world.

Cows: Alright

Sony: Than we are going to introduce the 40gb ps3 to the rest of the world.

Cows: Multiple sku's are the best!

...WTF?

(ALL OF THIS IN LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER LAUNCH)

Issue: Backwards Compatibility

Sony: Backwards compatibility is the CORE VALUE of what Sony believes they should offer.

Cows: MS SUCKS FOR NOT HAVING BC!

Sony: BC on the ps3 is going to be slightly limited, but it's no big deal.

Cows: It still has WAY more BC than the 360!

Sony: We are going to have a sku with no bc...(what happened to core value?)

Cows: BC is no big deal anyways!

....WTF?

Personally I'd rather buy new games for a new system and keep my older systems for the older games. I only have a couple of games in my collection that I can't play because I got rid of the system. But those games had been sitting on my shelf unplayed for years anyhow.

So I guess the drop in price is good for people like me.

Early adopters know that the price will get cut down the line and the 60gb still is the best machine of the bunch. I don't mind paying more earlier because I enjoyed my 6 months of gaming well ahead of all these people. When would I have the time to play great games like Motorstorm, R:FoM, Heavenly Sword, NGS, and Warhawk if I had waited until the onslaught of this holiday season into the mega 08.

well, thankfully Sony has dropped the price of the 80 gig to what the 60 gig used to be. So it's only $499. And since I am Canadian, I've checked online and stores are selling it for the same price here as in the US. This is great considering some places still claim to have the 60 gig for $550 while the 80 gig is $499.

But to answer your question, I guess it depends on the person. I still have my original launch PS2, and while it still works it IS getting really old and slower than it used to be. I was tempted by the 40 gig model but was really wanting the BC feature because I still play my PS2 a lot and have lots of games I like to replay from time to time. So the new $499 80 gig could be worth looking into now.

If B/C is a big deal for you they still have an 80GB version available for $500, the $400GB version will help sales tremendously at Christmas time. I got mine on launch day so the full package (original 60GB)was really important to me but I think you will be very surprised to see how many people rank money way over B/C in deciding to buy a system. This is going to be Sonys run to the top, over the next year the much more competitive hardware pricing and an extensive software catalog will make its consumer base much more comparable if not equal to the 360

$100 MORE for last gens games?

That's great stuff.

I'm not saying I like it any more then anyone else but lowering the price was what Sony needed to do and BC was in the way. So if you're still playing last gen games... 1. Keep your PS2 plugged in. 2. Buy the BC capable PS3.

It was incredibly stupid. It shouldn't cost that much to put it in. A lotof people like playing PS1 and 2 games.
