this isn't a surprise
"official" anything is extremely expensive
"offifical" HDMI's are like $70 where as normal (aka the same as the "official" one) ones on ebay are like $3
sad thing is...uninformed people WILL buy this just like they buy those HDMI cables...but we are informed, so don't complain TC...this is normal, just get a 3rd party one
Adding a feature that Sony has had since it's inception. Sony also allows ANY HDD to be installed into their system and they go up to 500 gig for LESS then the cost of MS's 120 gig.isnt it funny how MS is adding features to the 360and sony is removing them from the PS3 ?
ultraking
Also PS3 doesn't limit you on the size of the memory stick you can use unlike this "update" on 360.
In other words, the 360 should have had this "feature" from the very start.

LOL im sorry that you'd rather pick this overpriced accessory than removing a feature that no one really cares about. where have you heard of ps3 owners talking about linux in their ps3's? oh wait, you're a lem. hahaha.

Agreed. It's not hard to find a good to reasonably priced usb drive anyways.
Yeah and the only console that forces you to pay yearly fees in order to play online is also the Xbox360, no surprise, Thats Microsoft. Anyone remembers 200$ HDD-DvD Add ons?AgentA-Mi6
Got my 360 HD-DVD add-on with 6 movies for $50 at BestBuy. That was the day I realized what it feels like to be a vulture.

Considering that the "format war" was in lingo at the time...i don't think many people actually bought those. It helped Sony though since they had it from the get-go, but it really upped the price.

Way to go. lol I've said it before, and I'll say it again, screw MS and their crappy 360 hardware.have expensive own brand peripherals is pretty common in retail. its to take advantage of the morons who don't know any better. after all, these are business who survive by making money and if some moron stumbles in off the street and picks up the one with the 360 stick on it then its his fault and MS or any company would be stupid not to take advantage of that. Nintendo did it with the Wii branded San disk SD cards....http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/31/official-xbox-360-usb-drives-priced-by-gamestop/

Well first off those are Gamestop prices. Like I mentioned on another thread, GS shows a Wii 4GB SDHC card for $29.99. When is the last time any one with half a brain paid $30 for a 4GB SDHC card? I think you get them free with a fill up at Hess now. :)

it's a rip off yes.
but you listed something that isn't flash memory. so you're still off the mark.
Could they release a System Update that would enable these USB drives to be used as extended System Memory, breaking through the 512MB limit?
[QUOTE="AdobeArtist"]Isn't that what they are for?Could they release a System Update that would enable these USB drives to be used as extended System Memory, breaking through the 512MB limit?
Chutebox
No. Just an alternative storage medium. But if they could be implemented as extended RAM memory (like what you have in Windows Vista and 7) that would make them worth the price.

Oh, apologies. I like your new sig. I am enjoying the new V series and was a huge fan of the old ones also.Could they release a System Update that would enable these USB drives to be used as extended System Memory, breaking through the 512MB limit?

Awesome.
I can't wait to buy a third party option (if I feel the need to take advantage of this feature) for half the price. :D

I'm coming from being a fan of the original series too. I'm really hoping this new one does for V, what Ronald D Moore did for BSG.

I'm pretty sure they could, a la Windows Vista/7's ReadyBoost feature but that would likely be a huge problem for developers having to cater to gamers that are and are not using flash drives to expand the 360's memory capacity.Could they release a System Update that would enable these USB drives to be used as extended System Memory, breaking through the 512MB limit?

I don't know what you guys are complaining about...Hahadouken
Hey, your spoiler tags are working again! Drinks on me...

Apparently, you failed to get his point, basically he's showing that with that $69.99 price tag, you can get a 500GB of portable USB HDD.Please Log In to post.
