those rocks are wet so it makes perfect sense that they look wet and shiny so is the wall in the PDZ picok then i was wrongPDZ was a very good looking game at launch and still holds up well till this day. Although apart from Joanna, all of the character models looked horrible, like they were just pulled out of Kameo and expected to fit with the style. AAA game then and an AAA game still.
[QUOTE="toast_burner"]those rocks are wet so it makes perfect sense that they look wet and shiny so is the wall in the PDZ pic and I assume the Temple walls, the corridors of the subway stations, the rocks layered around the game from cobblestone streets to mountain side vistas, and all between? PDZ just was uber shiny everywhere it was ridiculous.[QUOTE="kidonre"]

Like London, it rains alot around there. It all makes perfect sense.

Tell me you're joking....
The whole game had a very crappy artistic style, and while some stages looked quite good, others looked atrocious. Some settings were so messed up visually its as if they mixed everything into a big pile of junk
The game isn't AAA and shouldn't have got AAA.

I was joking, not about London being rainy though. As for the game not being AAA, it sure as hell deserved it when it was released. Great graphics, decent single player, and a great multiplayer make for a great game.[QUOTE="kidonre"]

It is a PS3 game, you will never see anyone complain, these games are considered like gods on earth by some PS3 people
Or maybe it's because it takes place in the AmazonRAIN FOREST.

Shiny bricks for the win! Oh the memories. This photo/thread really brings me back to the early days of the 360 and lemmings who think shiny bricks = realistic texturing.
Good times.
p.s. Even the original Xbox did bump mapping.
[QUOTE="Teufelhuhn"]Once again Teuf swoops in with his superior knowledge of graphics making everybody feel stupid. i don't feel stupid :) :D yes, crysis has that type of look to it.That's actually parallax mapping. And yes, Crysis does this. :P

those rocks are wet so it makes perfect sense that they look wet and shiny so is the wall in the PDZ picNot true, almost every texture in PDz looks wet and shiney when it's not supposed to. PDZ suffered from overly shiney textures. And yes Crysis does use bump mapping, normal mapping, and parallax mapping.[QUOTE="kidonre"]

How can something that doesnt exist in the physical world be wet?
System Wars logic never fails to make me laugh

That's because Uncharted takes place in a rainforest/jungle...it's not exactly unreasonable for a rock to look wet in places like that...
In PDZ, it's a little off-putting to walk around inside what's supposed to be a perfectly dry ancient temple and see my reflection in the walls...
How do you know that's all bump mapping, there could actually be geometry for those features unless you know something we don't.

Oh my!
So then Chris Redfield is SOOO BUFF because his digital image was pumping iron since we last saw him... it has nothing to do with the artists making him that way.... ?
You realize that there is no water in your television right? Don't try to act like I'm the one that's not making sense, I'm not the one acting like things in a video game are real.

True there, for bump mapping have a look at OblivionThat's actually parallax mapping. And yes, Crysis does this. :P
Teufelhuhn
I thought Crysis used occlusion mapping not parallax mapping ?
