Hideo Kojima isn't participating in the project, what did you expect?

the cutting mechanic is all they could come up with. Sounds like all they can do anymore is the usual mgs. I love mgs and welcome more of it, but from the get go I never believed this was going to be that. And I am still not buying that first gif is all user controlled gameplay. Like we've never been lied to before about in game trailers.

Kojima hasn't cared about the quality of the series since MGS3. He hates the MGS fanbase and it's blatantly obvious. Everything from MGS4 on has been him intentionally pissing all of the franchise so it will die, but people still eat that s*** up and ask for seconds.

Looks like the only real difference is the fact it now appears to be using the Vanquish Engine rather than the MGS4 engine, which makes sense seeing as how it's supposed to be a faster paced game. Yea they didn't show destructable enviroments, but that doesn't mean it's been removed. Even if it has been is it really that much of an issue? The fact it's being developed by Platinum can only be a good thing IMO. Look at Vanquish and Bayonetta, this is exactly the kind of game Rising was being made to be from the off. Anyone who thought different was kidding themselves. If anyone can pull this off properly it's Platinum.

Platinum on twitter said its 1280 x 720 and 60 FPS.

I would agree that the old trailer where you slice everything in 1 hit is really cool and ive never played anything like that before, but this still looks awesome, and it has a great developer behind it.

I f-cking hate brawlers. MGS Rising 2010 looked like something that no game has ever done before. How you can't appreciate the game mechanic that lets you cut anything in any way with that fluidity is beyond me.

your not providing concrete proof that Kojima hasn't cared about mgs for a long time. Is it because he has claimed every one will be the last one. Brett Favre claimed he was done playing football a number of times, so he kept coming back because his heart wasn't in it? You seem to be making conclusions based only on your perceptions, not facts.

... you really ignored all the trailers and announcements for this game, didn't you? it was an action game from the very beginning. it was never, ever supposed to play anything even remotely similar to metal gear solid. f*ck, the game's subtitle (tactical espionage action) was dropped in favor of another (lightning fast action). and you thought it would be stealthy and methodical? the problem here isn't the game, it's you expecting something the game was never set to be. and the slice is the very f*cking same, only you don't get a giant blue line as you try to tilt the angle of the sword.

The game was always going to be a beat 'em up. Unless you're looking for an Assassin's Creed clone, you were setting yourself up for disappointment. And the game was going to boring, even the developers said it. I mean, if PlatinumGames has to tell them "gameplay always comes first" a million times, god knows how bad it ended up being.

Doesn't that apply to you too?

I'm open to being proven wrong. There really just any any evidence besides the fact that new MGS games exist, despite the fact that he removes himself more and more from the series as time goes on.

keep in mind this is still a videogame. slicing like jell-o as a finishing move adds styIe and makes it really look like you took the enemy down for good. slicing like jell-o as your very first attack makes for a complete lack of challenge because everything you touch dies in a split-second.

You're right, there is a small part of the video where it looks like you can, but the slashes has way too many effects, and without the physics that the last project had, it just looks unimpressive and unsatisfyng.

The original is a great mechanic demo, that's all. If there was any depth to it, it wouldn't have gotten scrapped because they couldn't do anything with it. If the almighty Kojima productions could actually do more than traditional mgs style anymore they would. Maybe it was too big of an undertaking for them to try to branch out a little. At least it's in capable hands, for what I always knew they were trying to go for anyway.

You're right, there is a small part of the video where it looks like you can, but the slashes has way too many effects, and without the physics that the last project had, it just looks unimpressive and unsatisfing.

honestly i like the new version more. the effects add styIe and visual flair IMO, and the enemies only get sliced like jell-o a couple times (as finishing moves apparently), and when you get the precision thing, it looks about the same, only with a different engine giving it different colors.

You don't have to like Kojima but he strikes me as a man who goes into every game with the full intention of pleasing himself and his fans. His games are fun and silly and they don't take themselves too seriously. You can't believe he sat down and said "I don't give a crap I'm going to just throw poop at a wall and call it MGS4."

You're right, there is a small part of the video where it looks like you can, but the slashes has way too many effects, and without the physics that the last project had, it just looks unimpressive and unsatisfing.

honestly i like the new version more. the effects add styIe and visual flair IMO, and the enemies only get sliced like jell-o a couple times (as finishing moves apparently), and when you get the precision thing, it looks about the same, only with a different engine giving it different colors.

To each their own, i suppose. I was just really looking forward to what they showed us in 2010.

so what the heck is that metal gear made out of if raiden tosses it like a ragdoll, flies up it's body, and cuts it in half?

keep in mind this is still a videogame. slicing like jell-o as a finishing move adds styIe and makes it really look like you took the enemy down for good. slicing like jell-o as your very first attack makes for a complete lack of challenge because everything you touch dies in a split-second.

I adressed that earlier. there are countless ways to maintain challenge if you can kill enemies in one slice. we both know that numbers can be tweaked and variables can be added so it's not like running around in god mode on dynasty warriors.

If anything they could have made it like Skyward Sword where you have to hit at the right angle, except make it way tougher.

that's exactly what the 2010 trailer was showing. raiden spinning and slicing and no one being able to fight back as he was doing it.

It looks the same except there's a red slash instead of a blue one. Anyway, what I like is that it isn't just an average move anymore. It looks like a finisher now (similar to "torture attacks" in Bayonetta), which is welcoming, I don't have to slash every enemy anymore. :D

some good perceptions. Still seems like reading into things and not facts. Seems like that's the problem. Just because it makes sense when presented, doesn't make it the truth. Your buying into it and posting it as if it is truth that nobody can refute. When in fact it just heresay. Guy presents his opinions well, but nobody hut Kojima really knows what he is passionate about. It sure wasn't that demo of Rising some here are crying about, or maybe they would have made it work.

I'm not sure about this game to be honest. The development time has been long and it looks like platinum games may have taken over during the development of this. Platinum games have the genre defining hack and slash game in Bayonetta so this could be good, however the trailer just didn't look interesting.

LOL now the ideas of how the old wouldn't have been too easy or how it could have worked are rolling in. Yeah because gaming professionals couldn't come up with anything better than us forum dwellers. It looked great. But obviously sucked in practice. It happens a lot in life.

Most of what he presents is backed up with links. You'd have to read every article on every game to get the whole point of it, though.
