wtf nintendo?

I'm an O.G. (original gamer) and i love nintendo to death...well till my gamecube dies out. But why all the big talk with the Big N lately.  They're selling a lil more than usual and they feel like they can crap on everybody now.  Now nintendo are talking about how sony failed to appeal to the casual gamer with their sixaxis controller. But Sony never said that they were going for the casual gamer with their controller...just do things that couldn't be done before with their controller...Same focus just with new additions...unlike nintendo where their whole system is focused around the controller.

You toss around the acronym OG like it's common place, when of all the years I've been here that's the first time I've seen anyone call themselves an Original Gamer. My question is "original" to what?

Anyway, the yellow bar is my current rating overall of the system out of five. PSP is 2.5 I think. Wii is 3 I believe. DS is 4 and Xbox 360 maybe a 4.5.

Making a PS3 one currently, albeit it focuses on the PS2 in terms of what I'm playing currently.

I have been noticing Nintendo's bold stance as well lately, but I think we need to consider something.  Nintendo needs third party support.  They've had a consistently bad reputation with third party in their history, either because they treated them poorly, or because their titles didn't sell well on Nintendo systems.  And Nintendo have been paying the price for that this generation already.  With the exception of Ubisoft and EA there really hasn't been that much third party support for the waggle-console.  Once E3 hit everyone knew that Nintendo had something going, but developers would have had to have much more ramp up time than post E3 to get onboard.

So they waited.  They put all of their money into the "next-gen" consoles and figured they would be ok.

Well now we know that this wasn't the case.  And Nintendo is assuring third parties to put their money and their developments into the Wii.  Much of the hyping is not done for the benefit or for the ears of gamers.  Rather it is to tell other developers that Nintendo will have an amazingly strong user base.  A higher user base equals more potential buyers, equals more money.

So I don't think this is Nintendo saying "We win."  It is Nintendo playing confident in a game they have been losing for the last 10 years.  If they just come out and say, "Oh, this little old thing.  We're as surprised as you it's selling so well," then perhaps third party support will smell weakness and respond with caution.  And if there's anything a console manufacturer can not have, it is developers too scared to put any real money into their ideas.

 Just a thought.

Yeah I noticed a lot of this new Big Talk from Nintendo too lately. I don't believe they should be resting on their laurels jst yet, there is a lot to do and change in this industry. First place success is not easy to win, and it seems like Nintendo thinks they're going to just coast to that spot.

Microsfot and PS3 are in their first and second year, not even the prime years of game console life. Wait until the Halo3 and GTA4 comes out and we'll see if their is a lot of console sale reshifting. Nintendo may be licking their battle wounds by this Christmas you never knowPhoebusFlows

Oh man FFT was my favorite PSX game, just beating out Xenogears IMHO. And BG&E is a great game, just sold like garbage sadly.

But really, I think Nintendo deserves a small break to regain some authority. 

Nothing wrong with a little arrogance.

And as long as they can actually get SMG and SSBB out this year I'm happy. They need to get better 3rd party games however.

Yeah you would be one of the few that probably remember those nowadays. Problem is I had to fight to keep those up, I created a blog dedicated to defending my right to post the content and that is was no worse than images found else where on the site (many of which were actually more suggestive than mine). I had to be preemptive b/c when I would start debating some people they would attempt to report my sig.

Wonder if I should give that another run... hmmm.

If Wii is arrogant, then Sony is just pretending to be God.

the wii isn't built around their controller any more then the 64 was built around it's controller.  and all 3 companies want to sell a lot of systems.  and that means they all want to sell to casuals.  sony wanted to just as much as nintendo.  captainlouie

 Nintendo stated that they were going to go after the ppl who was always curious about playing games but never felt that it was for them and that the wii-mote was going to draw them in.  Meanwhile Sony said we're going to bring a new addition to the controller to bring a new aspect to gaming. Sony doesn't want to bring casual gamers...they want to bring anyone with 600+ dollars in their pocket. I personally think Sony would've been more believable if they would have kept the rumbling feature with it.

I didn't write it to bring credibility to my argument, just to draw the attention to my post.  When I see a paragraph in these post, I usually skip past it because I think it will be just dried up jibberish.  So when I start my post, I use something that will keep the reader going.  I'm pretty sure I could care less if ppl believed me or not when I say something along those lines.

Considering it's been out for only seven months, no, that's not sad. 

I jumped ship on Nintendo when they announced Wii, because I felt like they had alienated me as a hardcore gamer. They were essentially releasing an overclocked Gamecube with a new controller that I felt was unsuitable for many of the genres that I like, and if you want a classic controller you have to pay extra (and ontop of that, what's the point of developing on a system with graphics that bad if you're going to use a normal controller?) Sony was offering exactly what I thought a next-gen system should have, and since I was already in partial cow transition having bought a PS2, I decided to join the cow side and get everything I wanted, rather than hoping that Nintendo throws me a bone at some point.Timstuff
