Sad, just sad. Microsoft has souped up their Xbox 360 console, only have gimped HDMI. This means NO support for the new gen audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD or any 7.1 audio for that matter. It also means NO support for the new international color standard, xvYCC color, which allows for 80% more colors to be displayed on the screen. Also, NO support for DeepColor, which allows for color bit depths of up to 48-bit for the elimination of color banding.

Looks like PS3 has this over the Xbox 360 and caters better to the A/V enthusiast. This is probably because the X360 uses only DVDs and cannot handle the extra capacity to store high bit color depths and 7.1 audio.:lol::lol:

If you don't know by now that the PS3 was a well put system that supports high tech features, then you must have a 360 or a Wii.

The 40 GB PS3 is WAY more of a better offering than the Xbox 360 Elite even. It includes built in Wi-Fi, HDMI 1.3 and a freekin Blu-ray player, with free online of course.

Imagine two people arguing over this in a store.

"The PS3 has HDMI!"

"The 360 does too!"

"No way! PS3 HDMI is better. Xbox 360 has crappy HDMI 1.2."

"Oh really? So what does the PS3 have? Is it like, really high?"

"I'll say! It's not HDMI 1.2. That's SO OLD. It's HDMI 1.3."

No different thenpeople arguing over what system is better.

Chances are if someone has a set up that takes advantage of all the 1.3 offerings they are not watching their movies through a PS3 or 360 anyways. ;)

It'd sound funny as hell in the middle of EBgames. And I've never heard anything like that outside of this forum. And I don't take anything in this forum very seriously.

You're mistaken about HDMI providing Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD or any 7.1 audio. Read this bit from the specification

Optionally supports output of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio streams for external decoding by AV receivers.[8] TrueHD and DTS-HD are lossless audio codec formats used on HD DVDs and Blu-ray Discs. If the disc player can decode these streams into uncompressed audio, then HDMI 1.3 is not necessary, as all versions of HDMI can transport uncompressed audio.

You guys really need to get offthe HDMI bandwagon. The best thing about itIMO is thatit allows you to send audio and video through the same wire, sothe back of my entertainment system wont lookas much like a rats nest behind the shelves. But HDMI is also the trojan horse, which allows companies to enforce nasty DRM on its customers.

Yeah, it's a missing feature, but missing features like that are what make the 360 a lot more accessible for mainstream audiences. The PS3 is probably the better console for a home-theater enthusiast, but it doesn't have as much mass-market appeal.

Have fun using HDMI 1.3 to see games with horrible framerates.
P.S. PSN is free because no one would pay for it if it wasn't.  Dedicated servers don't make up for it's lack of features and interconnectivity.

How many games actually utilize those codecs, are have 7.1 channel audio? Do you actually have a Audio Receiver that can handle these codecs? Do you have speakers that can create the discernible differences between these codecs and the standard codecs of today?

thats not why people wouldnt pay, the reason is that there is no huge ps3 online game like Halo or Gears of War.

The lack of A/V knowledge on this forum is always frustrating. Stick to talking about games. If you insist on tring to discuss next gen media, HDMI, etc., PLEASE go to AVS forums and do some reading so you at least have a chance of having a CLUE as to what your talking about.

By the way, I have an HD-DVD player, a top of the line Yamaha receiver, a Pioneer plasma tv, none of which have HDMI 1.3 and I get all the audio formats you mentioned and 7.1,just fine. You don't know what your talking about.
